Are you one of those people who constantly returns or exchanges items?

Do you get home and think, 'Oh crap I really shouldn't have spent that money.' and then turn around and refund it the next day?

Or are you one of those people who is almost always satisfied with their new purchase and hardly ever takes things back?

In some cases, I know of people who are too afraid to take items back even if the item is faulty or they picked up the wrong size shirt etc.

Myself, I rarely if ever take anything back. I'm always pretty good at getting the right thing when I do go shopping.

I'm not afraid to take things back either if there is a problem, though I do feel like a bit of a nuisance. =/

Today Steve and I just took back our curtains we got for Christmas from my parents though.

They were fine but one of them was a little smaller for our lounge room windows then we thought.

When we got there all the curtains were half price due to the boxing day sales! We ended up getting back money even though we purchased larger sized curtains!

So we turned back home and brought back the other two curtains and did the same thing! We really did need the larger size but thought we could make do with the next size down due to the larger size being so expensive.

But we ended up saving money which was such a shock! The crazy thing is that the sale is only for today and we nearly weren't going to go down at all due to the craziness of boxing day.

So how about yourself? Any cool or terrible stories you'd like to share in regards to this topic?

Have you had any bad experiences with trying to get your money back even though you're in the right?

Share and discuss! =D

I'm pretty good at buying stuff I want - even if I think later on that it's a waste of money (which I usually do, considering I'm a terrible impulse buyer) I won't return it, because I know I'll just regret getting the refund and I'll go buy it all over again. Once I buy something, I stick with it for better or worse and make the most of it.

I've managed to "refund" items to a shop that I didn't actually buy the item from before, though. When I purchased my second DS Lite, it came with some Imagine game (I think it was the baby one) which I managed to take (unopened) to another shop, which I managed to get a refund from! They didn't even bother asking me for the receipt ♥

I'm a terrible impulse buyer too :wacky: I always end up regretting buying something, though it only tends to be if it's significantly expensive but the feeling usually goes after a day or two, that being said I only buy anything if a) I know I'll get my moneys worth out of it and b) if I genuinely, really like it. I've never had to get a refund or exchange on anything mind which is a good thing because the hassle simply annoys me. :hmph:

I don't really shop that much. I've got the bug this Xmas though so I think I'll do it more.

But in general, no. I don't need to take things back because there's a fitting room where you can try things on, make sure it looks good and that it fits so there's no reason to. For me at least. :gasp:

I'm not an impulsive buyer and when I buy something it's because I really need it or I really want it. Unless it's broken or malfunctioning, I will most likely not return or exchange it.

The only problem that I can remember is that I bought a scanner/printer about two years ago. When I opened the box, the glass of the scanner was totally broken. I waited a few days to return it and the girl at the store asked me with a suspicious look if I had dropped it. She said it was almost impossible that it could have happened during the transport. As far as I know, a lot of products can be damaged during transport. I don't know where she got that but she ended up exchanging the goddamn scanner/printer and I opened the box to check it before leaving the store.

I rarely ever return things. I am good about buying things and will try clothing on before buying it. The only time I ever return is if something breaks soon after I buy it :/ I really don't like returning things because I worked in retail and returns were always annoying. So I feel like I'm burdening someone else when I return something.

I rarely exchange things as well seeing as how most of the time I am happy with my purchases. The only time I do try to get an exchange/refund is only when something is obviously wrong or in the case of clothing if I have the wrong size. For example if I order some food and they make a mistake I don't really care too much as long as it is something I am willing to eat. If not then I will ask for an exchange. If I order something else like a movie/game/book or whatever I will only ask for a exchange/refund if it doesn't come in the condition it's supposed to be in.

When it comes to clothing and accessories, I'm usually satisfied with my purchase as I often use the fitting room to make sure I'm buying something that is the right size. There's nothing more annoying than being compelled to return to the store because I didn't bother trying something on beforehand before walking to the cashier. It's usually technology that I have issues with. I used to buy a significant number of PC games to try out when this laptop was still relatively new. But I never really studied the specs and the games' requirements closely enough and most of the games I buy turn out to be incompatible. I've had to get myself to get a refund whenever that happened, prompting me never to touch PC software ever again if I intend to use them on this relatively low-spec machine. I've no personal recollections of any issues when attempting to exchange or refund anything, but I know my dad bought a sat-nav that was clearly faulty through no fault of our own and he had lost the receipt beforehand.

I only really return Items if they are broken beyond useless.

Unfortunately most of the stuff I buy is off ebay and more than a few items have been shit!
but games a re things I return mostly, Im kinda fussy about my time and enjoy games to much to put up with crap, so back to the store with you if you are crappy:ryan:

Strangely enough:lew: I got an email from eaby saying "Sell Unwanted Gifts!"
On christmas day:srsly: Christmas Day!!

i seem to have the brilliant luck that the only things i ever need to take back are the things i lose the receipt for, and i very rarely lose receipts.
if it's something that was pretty cheap and it isn't working, i'm never bothered because i haven't spent much money on it and i can always go out and buy another one without burning a huge hole in my pocket.

I very rarely return or exchange anything. I always try on clothes before I buy them so I never have to return those. I pretty much only return or exchange if the item isn't working or if it's a food item that was spoiled when I purchased it. I've worked in retail though and I know some people make a habit of buying things and then realizing they don't need/want them. :lew:

I've always been the kind of person who is wary to buy anything unless I really, really, really, really want or need it. If I refund anything, it's because it was defective in some manner. If I exchange something, it's because of the same above. Otherwise, I tend to keep what I buy and that's that.

We hardly ever take anything back. Mostly because Dad absolutely refuses to go back. Even if there actually is something wrong with our purchase. The rare times we do go back, we get a refund. This is mostly on Mom. She takes the refund and usually buys something completely different.

Recently, Mom bought some waffle maker thing, and it never shipped out or something like that. She asked for a refund, and we ended up getting groceries with the money.

i never take things back, i can never be arsed, i usually just give the stuff away or leave it in the back of my wardrobe. i bought a dress the other day thats too big Il either just wear a belt or never wear it, i cant be bothered going all the way back to town just to change it.

If its something thats been lost in the post thats easier to deal with as you dont actually have to move to sort that one out. Oh I did actually return 4 dresses i got that were are too big and it was the smallest size they did. That was 80 quisd worth of dresses so there was no way i wasnt sending all those back

I would if it were something expensive obviously, but ive never had to return anything that was.

I rarely get items which are broken or damaged when bought, so I rarely have to return items. Maybe I'm just lucky.

In the cases I do return things, It's usually something I just want replaced...

I'm very tight with money, so I don't buy stupid random shit anymore.

I will always return something if it's broken or something, but it might take me a while. I don't live too close to the nearest shops that I'm interested in (about an hour's drive) so it's quite hard to get motivated to go back there lol.

Saying this, if it's something cheap, then I just won't bother. What's the point? :hmmm:

If it's cheap enough and I bought it online, I'll keep it. If it's something clothes-related and I was really looking forward to wearing it, I'll usually go out my way to exchange it. I'm not too far to shops and stuff. ^^;

Overall though, I prefer exchanges as opposed to refunds. Rarely do I ever buy something that I absolutely regret buying and rather have money back for.

I don't returns things. If I want to buy something like an video game or an new computer I do research on it. And if it just came out I tend to wait an few months then get it. I learned this from living alone and having an very small budget to deal with.

nope

you know it's actually legitimate to go to gamestop, get a game, say you didn't like it and get another one?

i dont do it because i think it's kind of fucked up :wacky:

I usually don't buy anything I don't believe I'll be satisfied with, it's one of the reasons why I feel like I am being alienated from gaming right now, because it's so goddamn expensive to buy a game that you might hate.

I think BioWare is the only company that has ever done a Demo correctly, and that praise may be exclusive to their Mass Effect Demos, because Dragon Age 2 was just a fucking terrible game to put on a console. It's significantly better on the PC.

Come to think of it, the Catherine Demo was also pretty good. But, the point is that so many people just suck donkey ass at making a demo, it's supposed to be an experience of what the game has to offer. The Catherine demo was a little disappointing in that regard, but it seemed like a lot of fun at the time even though it became a lot more fun.

Nope. I don't even remember the last time I exchanged something, tbh. At least not for myself. I don't ever return anything though. While I could be an impulsive buyer, it's usually non-expensive items anyway so it isn't a big deal for me.
