Vets Lounge

We've already asked the owner countless times to upgrade, but he doesn't seem to think it's still necessary. We can give it another try though. The last time we were almost successful...

Slow and steady....we're getting there :8F:

I really dont think the username thing would be a good idea eitehr (coming from one who changes her username like underwear) espeically if it applied to everyone, it takes me a while to remember who is who, then they change their name, I check their profile, and even if ive talked to the person before, the name doesnt always ring a bell, so im less inclined to bother getting to know them, because Il always forget who they are :rage:

Just chucking my peanut out there :monocle:

I would like 30 days for vets though :sad3: But as it is, 60 is ok as well :8F:

While on the subject of Usernames: Why is it that when someone participates in a username theme, it pushes BACK the date of their next change? I thought it wasn't supposed to do that.

And stang: If we're gonna talk 90 day changes, then nevermind; 60 days is enough to wait. xD

Because the system doesn't recognize whenever a username is changed for a theme, so the admins would have to go back and manually calculate the appropriate dates, which can be very confusing because there is just no way I can determine whether a particular username was used for a theme or not. This is why I never liked the username themes idea. :) Too much of a hassle and complications.

Okay am I missing something here? Everybody keeps talking about shortening the current 60 day thing (which I assume is for Vets) to 30 days.

I also assume that regular members and n00bs have longer days to wait before changing their username, because it probably goes by seniority, right?

So then why does my User CP show me this

Change Username [permissible every 30 days for regular members] (Optional)

....I am a regular member, but is it really 30 days? Why would Vets have to wait longer than us average Joes? Isn't that a bit... odd?

Members who have never changed their usernames are given the opportunity to change it any time. After they do so, then the limit starts.

We staff members could change our usernames every 14 days, but now it's pushed back to 30. I think everything's just as fine as it is. Some people find it hard to get 1000 posts and being here a year enough already.

Some people. The site is now four years old (for the sake of argument), and the top poster has 11k posts. In what way does someone whos been here for a quarter of the time the site has been running, and has less than 10% of the posts the top poster has class as a veteran?

At least it's much easier to work out who is who when staff members make name changes, with their names being colourful and standing out. xD (so it's easier to guess who the name changing culprit is)

I actually do think that compared to other forums I have been lurking in, a member's minimum length of time able to change their usernames being 60 days is actually really generous. I have seen forums where you have to pay up to $10 of real money to the nearest admin to have a name change. There may be some that forbid name changing entirely.

Besides, if someone is so anxious to change their username after a short period of time, why not actually pick a username that you're comfortable with for at least 2 months? I mean, it's not like you're forced to live with a particular username for 2 months. :dave:

As for the AKA title, there's a hack installed so that when you hover over a username, it automatically shows you who those users were in the past.

The only ones it doesn't work on is staff. =P But you kinda already know who the person is due to the coloured name and such.

I agree with this.

I've never understood this desperate need to change your username every few weeks.

It'd be easier if you had a good think about it before you changed it so that you would at least be happy with your username for a good while and then when you do finally feel like a change, the 60 day wait or whatever it happens to be won't be an issue.

Also I don't think that the 2000 posts and two years is necessary.

I've got 5000 myself and not even been here two years yet.

Besides, there are plenty of dedicated members who have been here a fair while now and although they don't have that many posts, they are quality posts.

Although I know that this change won't be happening anyway, that's just my thoughts on the matter. =)

Well the chit chat thread is the only active thread in the Vet lounge so it really isn't that great.

Also if the requirements are increased now on the basis that there are too many people in there it will probably just increase again when more people start to hit 2000 and where does it stop from there? Ultimately it will just keep the same people in and out of the Vet lounge.

As for the 30 day name thing, even though I don't change my name I'm all for that. I don't really have a hard time telling people apart. I usually just look at the font and sig and I can usually figure out who it is easily. So yeah I'm in favor for this.

If we have username themes, which cause the most difficulty in figuring out who is who, because people usually change to a similar name, then the argument about 60 days so that people know who everybody is doesn't make sense.

Like Fleur said, people should consider themselves lucky that they even are allowed a name change. I go to a GFX forum nowadays and you have to pay to have your username changed so a 60 day wait is nothing in comparison to paying money.

A huge amount of the top posters' posts could be mod actions. Two word posts saying "Thread Moved" or "Thread Closed" That would be classed as spam by ordnary members.

I think we should have another star for 2000 posts and being here a 2nd year. But yah if it were raised to 2000 and 2 years we should have a higher class or like Olivia said that can be veteran instead. Or Super member or some shit like that :gasp: Just giving ideas here.

I really don't think that'll do anything other than cause exclusion and confusion. One status for one person, and another status for the next, and lounges for each? Just seems a bit over the top and unecessary. Try one, but don't try both.

all the vets seem to be under the impression that the vet lounge is pish so why bother if its hardly being used?

petabytes etc etc.

though i'll never see the light at the end of the 1000 posts tunnel :sad2:

That was plus one post count for you James. :dave:

But the Veteran Lounge chat thread is used quite often.

You can Jim if you stop hanging out in spam all the time :monster:
