Unless you have been shut off from the internet or something, you will know that FFX is getting a PS3 and a Vita remastering for its 10th anniversary. Notice the word "remastering", not "remake", hence no one should have been using the announcement to complain about FFVII not getting a remake when FFX is.

Anyhoo, let's say the same were to happen to FFXII, and that this game will get a future remastering just like its predecessor. Would you want to see one? Would you buy it and play through this game again? Or would you avoid it like the plague, swearing to yourself that this rancid excuse for an MMO game without the multiplayer-ness must be burnt once and for all with the fury of a 1000 suns? If you do wish to see this game remastered, what would you expect from it?

I for one, would want the most obvious thing: firstly, the Zodiac Job System extra content that Japan had received with their International version that we never saw. From what I have heard, the inclusion of its features are a significant improvement to many of the game's existing gameplay features, with things like personalised License Boards for everyone, controllable guest characters and even new content - like fighting all Judge Magisters at once. I'm sure including this would be wholly possible, just as I don't see why the NTSC version of the FFX remastering can't have the features that Japan and Europe both exclusively had.

Oh yes. I would like to play one.
I agree. That Zodiac job system inclusion is a must-have. Including all the features only the international version has. And of course, I am expecting other small but good improvements and tweaks.

I don't see why FFXII haters will bash a remaster. Just simply don't play it. I doubt it will slow down everyone's beloved Versus that significantly either.

Final Fantasy XII was lovely, and I would really love if it were remastered. Pretty much agreeing that the Zodiac job system would be essential for the remastered port. I would love to fight all Judges at once, but not on a trial mode like the international version. I want it to be part of the story. Yes, I would most definitely play it again, as I thought it was fantastic. It was also one of the most challenging, and I loved XII for that. I do not see why so many people hate XII really. I expect the game to have added bonuses that go beyond hunts etc. Perhaps some back story on a few characters?

I would definitely like to see a bit more back story on some of the characters. I found some of the characters and character interaction to be a bit lacking even though I did enjoy the game. I really can't complain much about the gameplay. I enjoyed it so I wouldn't say anything needs to really be changed in that area. However, I would like to see the zodiac job system included. I like the idea of the characters specializing in one area.

for all intents and purposes... a remaster and a remake are practically the same thing.

I highly doubt that Square Enix is just going to port Final Fantasy X to the PS3, update the quality of the sound and shink it's resolution to fit on the PSP. The game is going to get a complete overhaul so that it can even run on a handheld.

But why remaster Final Fantasy XII? I personally can't see a reason to, it's graphics are still fairly decent in this day. I really don't think that it's something I would invest in.

Not in this context. Remastering FFX would simply be the upscaling of its graphics for a HD platform, unless SE wants to tinker with the remastering a bit more. Compare this to what you have to do to any hypothetical FFVII remake, that would need complete graphical reconstruction from the ground up, with entirely new CGI to make for the cutscenes as well as the addition of full voice acting.

This is semantics anyway. If people do want to treat this as a remake, then you're free to. This just doesn't qualify to me as a remake, I mean, look at the Ico collection. Unless of course, SE just decides to be different and releases a super-enhanced remaster, then we can see where we can draw the more blurry line.

The game is going to get a complete overhaul so that it can even run on a handheld.

...I don't really see why. Nothing should need a complete overhaul when ported. Even then, the Vita is just simply a handheld with a similar graphical power to the PS3.

But why remaster Final Fantasy XII? I personally can't see a reason to, it's graphics are still fairly decent in this day.

You can easily say the same thing about FFX.

Try playing any PS2 game on a 55" HDTV. It looks terrible because of how stretched the pixels are and the fact 1080p/i has about 3x the pixels as a 480p PS2 game. It really makes a difference in the graphics, and I find if the FFXII graphics were put into HD and the textures were slightly improved, it could pass as PS3 graphics.

Oh I will definitely play FF12 as I loved the surroundings & battle system. Also Vaan in HD is something scary though. I never managed to finish FF12 cause I never owned a copy. I would definitely purchase it.

I never did get to play the original PS2 version of XII...I really only played Revenant Wings on my DS. I really liked it though...and the things that typically irritated people with XII (Like Vaan and the plot) weren't there to irritate me :lew:

Still, even though I've heard mixed things about it, I'd really like to be able to play it myself to form my own opinion of it. So far its been either a love/hate thing from people. I'd definitely pick it up if there were a remaster of it at some point in the future.

You mean PS2 :trollita:

But If the game was remastered, like everyone else says Zodiac System would be great to have. But other than that... Trophies don't really care for... But better throw some in their for you trophy tollers :hmph:

Other than that... Don't really see much else they can do except up the graphics (obviously).

I enjoyed playing FFXII but I dont think it was the best Final Fantasy game. If FFXII were to be remastered I would want from it more control of the characters and being able to jump. I did not dislike the license points thing but it was a pain at times having to unlock all the stuff so if FFXII was to be remade I would want no licence points. The Gambits system was fine no problems there.

In my opinion, this game shouldn't be remastered. It was just a horrible, horrible game and remastering would require just making a brand new game to fix all the flaws in it.

Sounds great. Obviously I'd like to see at least a lit bit of new content; but sure, other games have gotten the treatment- why not a game that fans are actually hoping for?

While there were some flaws in the game I still enjoyed playing it and loved the roaming system the vast amount of different places and the different species that existed. It was a fun game to play, and somethings were challenging, like the hunts for example. You have to level up just to defeat the newest mark, because if not then you would get your butt handed to you in a heart beat.

I would definitely love to see a remaster of this game, it was among one of my favorites. The only thing I would absolutely HATE to do again would have to be to hunt down the 'Trickster' that hunt I hated with a passion, it took me a long time just to complete it but the sense of accomplishment that I felt when I finally did defeat the mark was great.

So while some hate this game and say it was horrible, that is not the opinion of everyone. I would buy a remaster of the game definitely.

I personally wouldn't care for a remastered version of XII. The original was decent in terms of graphics, the battle system was reasonable... I suppose if they decided to make one, it would be good to see the areas we couldn't access in the game! Final Fantasy XII was the first Final Fantasy I completed yet throughout the game certain NPCs were telling me that the ship to X would be working 'later.' Later never came. Either they didn't quite complete the game - though judging from the size of it, I am guessing they did - or they wanted a further touch of realism. Either way, I want to know what lay on the other end of the ship's route! :ryan:

A few more levels with Recks wouldn't be bad either. I wish we had been able to see more of his character. The relationship between Recks and Ashe was never fully explored. It could be easily developed even if they only create an extra cutscene of two.

Whats wrong with me? I thought XII was better than VIII!
I agree with everyone that the content from the International version is a must, if each character had a specific role it would also encourage you to train up all 6 throughout the game, rather than focusing on your favourite 3.
As well as that, altering the summons would be nice, perhaps making them a one shot high damage blast rather than the existing system. Combined with International versions separation of Mist Points and Mana, they'd become far more useful in battle, rather than desperate last resorts (see, quickenings).

Other than that there doesn't seem that much to change, I've always thought the characters were well developed, each with their own set of motives and well explained attitudes, Balthier being one of Squares best characters.

I actually enjoyed XII, so if it were to be remastered then I'd play it. Of course, I never actually did get around to finishing the PS2 version (friend's copy) so it'd be great to be able to buy it for the PS3.

Wouldn't mind. As long as the FF12 fans are happy with it. Would I buy it personally ? Never never never. Though as long as those care, enjoy the game that they love and enjoy, then everything should be fine.

FFXII.jpg

No.

Just no.

I hate FFXII but it was better than that abortion I spent 60 dollars on. :sad3:

I wouldn't play it or feel the need to buy it, but I wouldn't be pissed to see it get remastered. I fully expect it to at some point in fact. But I'd like to see a X-2 remaster first, because to me it only makes sense that they would do that and include it in some sort of bundle with X. Or maybe I just want them to do that.

But I'd like to see a X-2 remaster first

No, no, nooo!!! *dies*
But back to FFXII, I think it's just fine the way it is. Rather remaster VII, VIII and IX. Those look WAY worse on an HD tv...
