Okay so I was told this really yucky story the other day from Steve.

Apparently someone he knows has never ever changed their dish cloth/sponge thing they use to wash the dishes with.

They may as well not even bother washing their dishes if they're using the same disgusting wash cloth over and over again. >.<

Steve said that when he saw it he nearly puked and asked why they hadn't bought a new one, as they're only like $1 for a 6 pack of dish cloths.

Apparently she said, 'Nah it's okay.'

Yet it was a totally different colour and everything from what it originally was. >.<

I change my dish cloth like every week or even earlier if I notice that it starts to look feral. I stock up on them so that I ALWAYS have a clean one to use.

I just can't bare the thought of rubbing a feral old dish cloth over dishes that I'm meant to be cleaning. >.<

This thread doesn't have to be about just what I've discussed above, it can be about anything in general that relates to being hygienic around the house.

For example: I know some people who never wash their bath towels. >.< They just let it dry after every use and that's it. They get so smelly! What's the point in having a shower, rubbing nice smelling soaps and such all over yourself, if you're going to rub that smelly old towel over your body afterwards!

Discuss! =D

My mum is absolutely OCD about cleanliness, she goes too far though. Walk in the door and its like lewis wash your hands before touching anything. Shel just chew my ear off til i do it so its total habit now to wash my hands if ive been home. She even carries about handwash in her handbag ¬__¬
Me personally im not a freak like her ( freak sounds harsh D=) but im certainly not a minker either. I would never wash dishes with dirty towels like what that guy was doing, thats manky and id never eat off a dirty plate or use a dirty for or knife, itd put me right off my food. Not washing your bath towels? Thats just.....crazy :wacky: They would be stinking.
SO yeah id say im defiantely hygenic, though ive not showered yet since ive got home from work :wacky: But im just in the house alone so il do it before bed.

First the smelly people and now their smelly behaviours..You got issues it seems about hygien. lol

Anyways I wash my hands after going to toilet, after pc and before every meal. A PC`s keyboard and mouse has more bacteria as a standard household toilet.

After every metal i touch (which many people have touched as well) like rails etc..I wash my hands or try to. Same with money. Money is dirty!

About the sponge -> thats disgusting man..where do you live xD
A sponge also suck up many bacteria, what they are doing is not healthy..its sickening.

Also in the pub they usually wash their glasses with water in the sink thats been there the whole day..they did a test here in NL about that and they were shocked how many bacteria they found in that water and in the glasses..

No wonder I feel nauseous sometimes after a couple of beers.. (ten)

Oh I'm not over the top or anything either. XD

I never have that handwash stuff in my bag because the idea of washing your hands without water is just weird to me. So I just find a bathroom if I really need to do it. =P

I just find it disgusting when people don't even do the basics! >.<

Some of my friends have cats and they never even wash their bed sheets for like months.

It's like, 'First of all you've probably had sex in those sheets, which would be reason enough to clean it every week, but you have cats too! Which is even more reason to clean them more often!' =0

I think a lot of my mum's obsession over keeping things clean and hygienic has rubbed off on my sister and I. We're both very conscious about keeping things clean around the house. My bath towel for instance, gets washed every few days now, as does the hand towels in the house. When I go to dry my hands on them after washing my hands, I just don't like the idea of using a damp, stinky hand towel that has had other hands on them many times beforehand. And I do frequently wash my hands a lot as well. I'm also one of those people who prefer handwash soap from those containers rather than bars of soap.

I do little actual cooking in the house, but from what I've gathered, my mother gets really fussy with the cleanliness of the plates and cutlery. You should really see the amount of Fairy washing up liquid she manages to use up in a week. :wacky:

I'm hygienic as a motherfucker when it comes to people. I wash my hands after I shake hands with another person. I start to freak out when I do. Though, it doesn't help that I'm OCD about that as well. After I shake hands with someone, I can spend 10-15 minutes just washing my hands because I'm that fucking paranoid about my hands being clean.

It fucking sucks, bro. :hmph:

Yeah I gotta be clean when I'm going around day to day, wash my hands, shower everyday all that shit.

But I ain't no princess I'll sleep on the floor at a friend's house if I have to and other people's hygiene doesn't really bother me.

Yah I do. XD

Yeah Steve and I are really careful about touching hand rails and such. >.<

And I always have to count money at work and you should see my hands afterwards. =/ And the smell!!! It's terrible! What on earth do people do with money!

Some people I know even put money in their mouth! They haven't got enough hands and so they shove the money into their mouth while they fiddle about trying to close up their bag.

Oh and it was when Steve was living in South Australia. He used to know this guy and when he went over to their house he saw the Mrs cleaning the dishes and noticed the feralness of a wash cloth they were using. >.<

I know I've gotten much more Hygienic since I started nursing school. Only after working in a hospital can you understand just how nasty germs/viruses/bacteria are...and just how seriously they can affect you. I've seen MRSA, VRSA, C. Difficile, RSV, Pertussis, Varicella Shigella, and any of another of a number of superbugs out there. So I:

-Wash my hands whenever I get home and whever I go to the bathroom. I think its sick when guys especially don't wash their hands after peeing, they touch "that area" when they go to the bathroom and precede to spread the germs everywhere :/
-Change our dishclothes every other use
-Use hand sanitizer after shaking hands with anyone or touching anything in a store.
-Never use any testers of any cosmetics anywhere
-Take my shoes off when I get in the door (its not just to keep the carpet clean, but who knows what happened on the floor you just walked on and now you are carrying it all over your house)
-Change my bath towels after every use
-Change my bedsheets every other week. I used to live in a duplex with two men in their late to middle 30's who were "roomies"... and never ONCE in 3 years did I ever see them wash their bedsheets. Its a sick, sick world I tell you. :gasp:

I probably do more, I just can't think of it off the top of my head.

When you realise the incredible amount of Germs and Bacteria in the world and the abundance of them on the body it self........there is no point in struggling with silly reasons for destroying them:lew:

Simply if we destroy them we die.

You guys know what a Free Radical is?
Atoms that have an unbalanced outer Electron Shell, they cause just about as much damage as Bacteria the very air we breath is full off germs............and I dont mean Pollutants.

However there is a healthy balance that can be off set by reckless behavior, like OJ example of the usage of Water, thats just off and the practices used by fast food outlets, we place a lot of FAITH in theses people to treat OUR meals in a Hygienic way .

I wash my hands after using the Toilet with soap, I was watching one of them Health and Hygiene shows from the UK:lew: and they found Fecal Matter(shit) in the Lid of Squeeze Bottle that you use when training.

Fucking off!

I can get irritated seeing dirty sponges being used to clean the dishes as well. That's why my grandparents always leave me to do the chores. :wtf:
That and anytime I wake up super late for school, I take my time anyway and take a shower first. I NEVER skip the shower when late for anything. If I did, it would be on my mind all day and I'd try to keep myself distant from people. I especially don't like making contact with anyone that's sick, or just does something that totally grosses me out (sticking the whole finger in your mouth when eating with your hands, for example), and the fact that some people don't feel like closing their mouth when they cough or sneeze (even if they do it away from me) always makes me cringe. Luckily, I'm always carrying a travel-size bottle of hand sanitizer with me .

It's ironic, I actually have legitimate clinical OCD and yet cleaning things too much has never been a problem for me XD I think a lot of people automatically associate the term with cleaning most of the time, but that's only a minor part of what it is/can be.

I normally clean stuff if it exudes dirtiness, but I won't wash something just because a certain length of time has passed. Dirty doesn't happen on a schedule, and I don't want to waste cleaning products if it's not necessary, heaven knows what endangered rainforests and exotic plant species many of them come from >_> I don't like everything being too dirty, but too clean is bad too because it can kill all the good bacteria, and make you more susceptible to viruses. I know plenty of people who sanitize their hands after everything they touch, and are yet sick all the time, and I'm rarely ever sick.

My dish cloths do have to be washed every day though, because for some strange reason if they sit any longer than that, they smell like the nastiest rusty metal/broccoli/dirty bellybutton/mildew smell and it is absolutely disgusting, I can't stand it :rage:

I'm not an hygiene freak but I do the basics like washing my hands before a meal, after a class where I used the computer keyboard or after I used the bathroom. I take usually two showers a day and change my shower towel every time. I clean my room once a week although dust doesn't really bother me. i change my bedsheets every two weeks.

Note: I once had a roomate that was disgusting: you could smell the sweat in his room, he wasn't cleaning his dishes (he wasn't cleaning anything in fact and that included himself I think) so there was flies in the kitchen and he wasn't picking up the cat faeces in the litter. The smell was awful, especially during the summer. He left a garbage bag open inside the apartment a couple of times. I was doing the chores most of the times but I was working on the road during the week so I wasn't home for 3-4 days. When I was coming back it was like hell. I didn't live with him very long, I couldn't take it anymore.

Another feral thing I absolutely can not stand is when people leave their dishes for more than two days near the sink.

They don't even rinse them after they've finished, so that there's no crusty food left on them.

I always rinse off my dishes as soon as I'm done, so come washing up time I'm not struggling with trying to scrape off crusty old sauce and what not.

I don't think people realise that they only make the process harder if they're lazy about it to start with. If they thought about it, the food is still soft and mushy after their meal and so it will wash off easier rather than two days later. XD

Oh my god :ness: dirty dishes by the sink is horrible. In my house the dishes get washed after every meal straight away, and stuff like cups and mugs get washed throughout the day as well :wacky:

I'm sort of average with cleanliness. Obviously bath towels, bed sheets whatever get cleaned regularly and I shower every day. (I can't bare not showering, I just feel dirty D=)
But I don't wash my hands after everything I do like some of you do :wacky: obviously if I'm about to eat, just used the loo or done something like counted dirty coins and it's left a visible mark on my hands, then it gets washed.
But my immune system's good, I'm never ill, well, never seriously ill, worst illness I've ever had has probably been a mild case of flu :wacky:
So yeah, I think I'm average. Hygienic but not over the top.

I'm the same with my dishes. Pretty much after every meal I'll wash the dishes so that ants and bugs etc don't get into them.

Sometimes if it's just a few glasses I'll let it go but I would never leave pots and plates etc right after a meal. They must be washed right away. >.<

Oh more and more keeps coming to me. XD

I have friends who have cats and they always pat them and what not and then just eat their food or put their hands near their mouth or something. >.<

I always wash my hands right after touching them!

And they let the cats lick the leftover milk and such in their bowls and yeah ew.

There is no way I would ever be able to eat out of a bowl again if I knew any sort of animal or disgusting person for that matter had their mouths all over it. >.<

I think I am pretty clean, sometimes i get a bit lazy with bed sheets and stuff and change them every 2 - 3 weeks instead of every week like i used to. I definitely change my kitchen sponges and cloths as often as i need to.

Sometimes its hard keeping up with the cleaning when I live with my very messy BF and sister!

personally my hygiene is prety good, I shower every day, brush my teeth and deodorise etc.

also yay finally my 100th post

You'd hate our uni flat then. We had EVERYTHING piled up in the sink for about 4 days and got so desperate we were using wooden spoons for knives. :wacky: It eventually got to the point we ran out of things to use so we HAD to wash up.

Other than that I do all the hygienic stuff, shower every day, clean the house/room, wash hands after the toilet and before meals etcetc.

I'm about middle-ish when it comes to being hygienic. I'm not like a germaphobe but, I do the necessities such as, clean the dishes and wash my hands after the bathroom. Didja know that the 99.9% germ killing thing can be a bad thing? Well, in the sense that if you get hit with a virus, your body might not be prepared for that ya know? So, I usually don't use that stuff.

:wacky: that's horrible, when I'm at uni and I share a flat, I will do all the washing up if nobody else does it :mokken:
We have a kitchen in our 6th form common room so we can make tea and have hot lunches etc and it's really disgusting. Nobody washes anything and every week during one of our frees, me and one of my mates go and clean it because we use it :gonk: and it gets shut if it gets too disgusting. I don't get how people can just let it get as bad as it does, it only takes a minute to wash your cup/plate after you've used it
