Does anyone else get pissed off with these machines that charge you take out your money? I was at the shop earlier and it cost me £1.99 to withdraw. I realise its not exactly a HUGE amount of coin, but i work hard for my wage and i just think its a complete rip off that you get charged to take out your own money. The money you earn by going to work everyday.
I mean the amount of times ive had to use these machines, the money really does add up. The banks and companies who own these machines make a fortune off them and for what? Giving you access to your own money. I already pay taxes i should be able to withdraw cash for free when i want it and use my debit card without a fee. Itd be like having to pay a fee each time you wanna get into your house.

it's the folk that have them in their shops or whereever that make the money I think

I rarely use them, I refuse to have to pay to get my own mone#y out, its ridiculous, Id rather go out of the way to find a cash machine, or get cashback from a shop or summat

yeah its ridiculous. also im sure the banks were talking about charging for accounts, even just basic current accounts. i know when i went to open my new account the guy went over one where you have to pay like...a tenner a month for the account "but if you deposit £1000 or more each month we'll give you £5!". my money would be safer under my bloody mattress anyway.:hmph:

i love how all the ones that dont charge advertise it as if its something theyre proud of. wankers :hmph:

i have one of them reward accounts jim though threw it i insure my fone, and with the fiver i get back per month its less than what id pay orange for insurance.
And theres ones on the highstreet kelly, not just in shops.

I have to pay to withdraw from any atm which isn't owned by my bank. I don't have to pay bank fees though because I'm a student. I get paid monthly interest but that's only if I don't withdraw anything. For some reason, I prefer keeping my money in my room anyway so I don't really deposit that often.

I absolutely hate those. And what's worse is my bank actually charges me a fee as well for using out-of-network ATMs. So I get fucked both ways. :hmph:

I remember going to an amusement park and I forgot to withdraw cash before I got there. I used the ATM there and there was like a $4.00 fee and then my bank charged me a $4.00 fee as well. It was nearly ten dollars to withdraw my own money from my own account. It's a rip-off.

I avoid these at all costs.

I don't care if I have to search the world for one that doesn't charge, but I'm not paying extra money just to get money out at all.

Heres an annoying Fucking Statistic!!! The Commonwealth bank released statements lat week saying/gloating that they made a $6.3 billion profit! WTF? and then they go along with the rest off the Banks and raise interest rates on homeloans beyond the recommended increase from the Reserve bank!

And then l heard that this bank is planning to Fire 1000's of employees in spite of this huge profit, greedy sons of bitches.

On the whole though I dont really use money anymore just my credit and debit cards
and there are lower fees for online and debit transaction with my bank.

Which Bank?(sorry a little aussie humor there:lew:)

they're a complete joke. why should anyone have to pay to access their money? especially when you can just go to the bank and use a free one, the whole idea seems totally insane.
alas, people will use them and the owners will get money from them. i'll only ever use one if i'm absolutely desperate for cash, otherwise i'll go right out of my way to get to the nearest free one.

I rarely ever take cash out.

I always use my card to pay for things as it's good in case I get mugged. They won't be able to take anything but my card which can be cancelled. Also, I have two accounts. So even if they did have my pin number, there would be shit all money on the card. It would all be in my other savings account. XD

I pay a small fee to get unlimited transactions on my card as well. I think before that I was only allowed to use it four times a month.

Anyway the only ones that charge are the ones that aren't my Banks ATM and there is only one ATM for my bank in the whole shopping centre all the way up the other end. <_<

So I used to just use the one right outside my work if I needed to, but yes it is crap how it charges you $2 just to take out YOUR money. <_<

I don't really have to use ATM's again though during work. I just get cash out without having to buy anything through works registers. XD

The one thing that really shits me off is that some loans you take out through jewellers and what not charge you $2 EVERY time you make a payment?

Like seriously WTF? They charge you for giving them money! So we changed our fortnightly payment to a monthly payment so that it doesn't end up being $4 a month which will add up! :gasp:

All the ATM's here are free or at least I have never been unlucky enough to come across one that you have to pay. They were trying to put a cost on using the ATM so less people would use them and there wouldn't be as much money in them because a lot of the ATM's were being stolen. Yes people did manage to steel ATM's machine's they used a tractor and trailer to transport digger's and used the digger's to rip the machine out of the wall put the digger and the machine on the trailer and drove off in the tractor and the closest Garda(A shit Irish version of the police) unit might arrive a half an hour after the incident.

I only use the ATM when I really need cash the rest of the time I only carry enough money to pay for a bus, food or a drink cause if I am buying thing's I always find out how much it is and have the right amount of money with me before I leave the house and that helps me to stop impulse buying cause I never have enough money to spend on extra things.

Yeah, I've been ripped off by these every once in a while too, I think my bank charges if you use a non-them ATM :hmmm: I think what they're thinking is "oh, it costs extra money to have this machine available and people tending it and whatnot, so we'll charge for the convenience of having it there" :mokken: But you can't often help where you are when you need money, what if you're between work and home and you need to stop? Everyone would love if all the places they needed to visit during the day were right next to each other, but we're not all zoning commissioners so most of us have no control over where businesses are located. And you can't exactly "choose" where you live most of the time, unless you're rich and there's a big vacant lot right where you want it to be :mokken: So having to pay for "convenience" charges on things is a big load of donkey dingdongs, IMHO.

These charges can be a pain in the butt. They may not cost much but they do build up very easily. I tend to prefer to avoid doing this unless I really have to. Thankfully my bank doesn't charge me for using another bank's ATM but I do still have to pay the service fee for using the ATM. Luckily for me though my bank and it's ATM machines are very common around here so I don't have to worry about charges much.

Like everyone else, I'll go out of my way to find one that doesn't charge if it seems that all the ones around me are charging. It's a ridiculous and greedy concept, and I know it's a small charge, but it seems ridiculous - especially when nine times out of ten you can use your card to pay for most things anyway.

Personally, like Kandy, I try to use my card to pay for everything - but I always like having cash with me anyway, just in case the machines are broken or something. I have two bank accounts - one my student loans and whatnot go into, my day to day one - and I've withdrawn money at an ATM from that one maybe... twice. And then I've got my savings account, which gets £1000 or so dumped in it every 2/3 years by the bonds my parents set up. With my savings account, I only have a cash card, not a debit card, so I always use an ATM when I want money from that account.

On the whole though, I only use ATMs to check my balance and get printouts. If they started charging for those features, I'd just shift to online banking entirely, it's just not worth it.

I'm also part of a bank that charges you if you use an ATM other than your own branch, so most of the time it's not a 1.50$ or 2$ charge.. it's upwards of 4$. I hardly ever use them, I just use my card as much as possible.. unless I owe/need cash for a cash only thing.. then I need to go somewhere. And currently my bank's ATM is unavailable since an attempted robbery, so no free cash there. :gasp:

The only thing that pissed me off is that today I wanted to go to my bank which doesn't charge to withdraw, but it was 'temporarily out of service' and obviously closed inside since it's a Saturday. That meant I had to go to the nearest bank which wasn't mine but allows withdraws as long as you accept the charge. Eh, doesn't matter I guess. Just a bit irritating.

Ah there are ATM's here that charge you for checking your account balance!

It's so frustrating!

It explains before you proceed that you will be charged $2.

Then if you want to get cash out after you see what your balance is, you need to start all over again and once again you get hit with a $2 fee.

If you're smart, you'll try to see how much you can get out of the ATM first if you're not sure how much you have in there and then request a balance at the end of the transaction so you only get charged $2 all up.

Steve would walk a 1000 miles to find an ATM that's with his bank then let one charge him $2. XD

If I'm desperate I'll do it. I find it easier to accept $2 then walking a huge distant just to find a free ATM sometimes. I hate it but if it has to be done it has to be done. =/

I don't know if y'all have credit unions over where you are, be it UK or Oz, but if you get a chance to put your money with them, do so. I bank with the North Carolina State Employees' Credit Union, and I can use any ATM not only owned by NCSECU, but any credit union (Navy Federal, Woodmen of the World, etc.) without a fee. They also tend to be more stable than regular banks, relative to the fluctuations of the economy.

Most ATMs here charge you if you use a card that's not from their bank, and self owned ATMs here charge you for using them no matter which card you use.

Sometime whichever bank you have your card issued from will charge you if you use an ATM that isn't their bank. So you're getting charged from the bank that has the ATM, and your bank for using a different ATM.

It's pretty messed up, but I barely notice the fees. I usually use it and stores that offer cash back when I make my purchase
