Soo, i am thinking about going to Uni and doing a Media, Communication and Cultural studies however then entry level given is something i have not got. it is:

ABB/ABB

so i was thinking bout going to college and study there for a year or so, the only thing is i turn 20 in december and its a worry thinking that i could be too old to go to college now.

A guy on my course at uni is 27 this year. Last year's third years had a 40-something year old and a 30-something year old. Do the maths.

My mum's friend's boyfriend (confused myself there...) studies at the local college and he's 43 I think. So no, you're not too old, you'd only be a couple of years older than the other students so no.
Some people take gap years and go in older than everyone else so it'd just be similar to that :monster:

I wouldn't say so, no. In my opinion, if you're wanting to get the grades, get the degree and try to make a better life for yourself then go for it. No one has the right to get in the way of that regardless of your age. :dave:

Age has no bearing on such anymore until your about 60 then it might be a push unless you have the money and really want to do a course, I might go back to Uni and get a degree in Microbiology.

Are you afraid of being thought of differently? agism is a bitch but it should not effect you.........not yet!

20 years old? 20 years old is absolutely nothing, I've seen 20 year old people in high school. You may be a year older than some of the people you're around, but so what? It hardly makes a difference when it comes to getting a degree. You'll fit right in, trust me.

Besides, chicks dig older guys.

Trust me 20 is not too old. I've met several people at my uni much older than that. I've even met someone who had been a lawyer for several years and then all of a sudden went back to Uni to study linguistics. It isn't exactly uncommon to find a senior student doing a bachelors degree.

If you want to study something then you shouldn't let something like your age get in the way regardless of how old you are. It's your life etc etc..

I hope not, I'm wanting to go back when I get more pocket change and try to get my second degree in financing. I am turning 26 this month, so trust me, I've seen a lot older going to college.

Though I'm not sure if a degree all that much helps folks get a job, as much as job experience, though it wouldn't hurt to get one when the economy hopefully bounces back.

Go for it dude, you are never too old. Im 25 and was going to go to uni this September. But due to my job Im going to save up to go next year when Im 26. You do get arseholes who say that you have to be young to get into higher education, but what does age matter as long as the indivdual wants to learn more??? Good luck man, ignore the prats who want to stop you. Its your life.

My mom is 48 and she is going back to school to get herself a degree and she's not worried at all about her age. What she's worried about is being able to better herself through education and having a means of taking care of herself and her children if anything should happen to our way of life at the moment. I hate it when people think they're too old to go back to school, especially when they're like...20...21...22. Where do people get the idea that there is a certain cut off age to when it is acceptable and when it is not? In my undergrad, there were plenty of people who were in their 30s and 40s, probably even older. Although not the majority, it wasn't rare to see someone well into midlife.

Now that I'm in a graduate program, I am the youngest out of my cohort. Everyone there was 30+.

There's someone on my university course in their 70s or 80s, so going to college at the age of 20 is nothing to be worried about. Anyone of any age can go to college/university at any age now.

20 is really normal for starting. Im starting and im 19 so its not like anyones gonna look down on you if thats what your thinking.

Age shouldn't matter towards education. It is your life. If you want to gain more prestige by attaining more knowledge, or you want to make more money and get a better job, or WHATEVER, you go and do it. You are never too old for anything.

Well, maaaaybe, but this isn't one of those times! :ness:

20 is definitely not too old :monster: There were quite a few seniors in my college classes, 60+ people, who did just fine, even when paired up with people in their 20s to work on group projects. People are (from my experience anyway) a lot more pleasant and less judgemental in college than in places like grade school (ugh) because they're usually there intentionally, because they want to learn or they at least want to get a degree. And 20 is probably a fairly common age of students in many universities anyway, even if they didn't start at age 20. In any case I'm sure you'll do fine :)

Age never matters when it comes to college. I am 24 and I just started going back to school recently. I am not looked at differently or treated differently. I had someone in one of my classes who was 52 and he was about as close to the other students as the 18 year olds. Age will never matter in school. The only people who seem to make a big deal about your age when it comes to going to college is people you know personally who went before you. Otherwise, most people in college will realize that you made an important step in life. Being 20 is no where near being too old for college. Do it if you want to and if you are ready and you will succeed.

A lass on my LAST college course (being about 4 yrs ago) was 50 and she's gone on to uni and other stuff. Im now 21 and went back to college, will be 23 when I go to uni so won't finish until I'm at least 25-26. Nowt wrong with it, you're fine.

You're never too old to further your education. Well, unless you're at that age where your memory slips but that comes later. I hope twenty's not too old to go into college. I probably won't be able to go until I'm 22 at the least. Hell, they're are medical interns that are in their 50's. So, don't worry too much about it. As long as you're not in the same classes as your grandchildren, then there's no need to think about.

My dad didn't enter university until he was 21. He now has a PHD in Biology and Chemistry. It'll work out just as well for you as a younger student. Better, because you have life experience.

20 years old? Serioulsy? Trust me, you are not too old. No one is never too old for college.. But 20 years old is a prime time to start college. Plenty of people wait a year or two after high school to start college
