I didn't really expect much from this movie. I only went to go see it because I was in the mood to watch a movie at the theater and I had already seen Fast Five and Pirates 4. It was just a pretty generic sci-fi action movie. The visuals were okay, though.
 
X-Men: First Class

Overall, this was...alright. Better than any of the other films thus far...especially the Wolverine movie, which was so bad I think I'd rather play Final Fantasy XIII for two hours than watch it again. I'm surprised at how well Magneto was cast, Mystique getting some backstory was nice (although she looked like a total slut after she
got hurt by Beast and then immediately ran to Magneto's bed...we didn't even NEED that love side plot, it should have just been Magneto/Mystique...Mystique/Beast was almost as bad as the Kitty/Rogue/Bobby love triangle in X-Men 3...
) and I thought their interpretation of the Hellfire Club was fantastic (plus its nice to see some villains that everyone doesn't know appearing in a superhero film, for a change) but this film had one horrible, fatal flaw that let it down...Xavier. I knew no actor would be able to measure up to Patrick Stewart's portrayal of him, but I expected the writers to actually MAKE AN EFFORT, and not cast the worst possible person for the role. He was AWFUL. He ruined the entire film and, if it wasn't for how well Magneto was done, I may very well have gotten up and walked out.

6/10, because Xavier was THAT bad. Also, I didn't like how they suddenly just cut Emma Frost out of the picture entirely halfway through the film, then
brought her back at the end to join Magneto, despite the fact that he put a coin through her lover's skull. Consistency is nice!
 
Last movie was Thor and next would have to be The Avengers

Bridesmaids

Ohhhhhhhh my gosh this is the funniest movie I think I've ever seen. I loved this because it was totally on my level of humor. This was naturally, about a group of bridesmaids...more specifically the maid of honor. It includes things that would happen for a bride preparing for her wedding like the dress fitting/picking out the bridesmaid dresses, the wedding shower, and the bachelorette party...WITH ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS TWISTS :awesome: I don't want to give the movie away by saying too much...but if you are into comedies you should see this...I've heard this is much better than the Hangover 2. Its completely not a chick flick too...men enjoy this as well.
 
I have not watching TV for the past 5 months, but I do recall going to the movies and watching Nightmare on Elm Street a while ago. You know? The new crappy one? It was pretty terrible to me.
The fact that they wanted to focus even more on the horror and completely change Freddy's personality, I don't even think he laughed once in this film. Plus I don't remember seeing much blood either. Oh yeah, and they changed Freddy's actor, so now he looks all weird in the face. This movie is just all wrong. Waste of my money, and I just saw it on HBO last week or so, wtf? But that's my opinion on the movie.
 
The Pianist

I've been interested in WWII films recently and this is definitely one of the better ones.

Based on the life of a famous Polish/Jewish pianist; the film takes place in Warsaw during the German occupation. It follows his struggle for survival. The film made it clear that survival in this period was largely attributed to luck, there was a real sense of helplessness attached to this movie. The fact that the director (Roman Polanski) was himself a holocaust survivor makes this film all the more powerful.
 
Pirates of the Caribbean 4: on stranger tides

it was an alround good film, thoroughly enjoyed watching Captain Jack along with a new group of folks, Penelope Cruiz was a good adition to the cast and made for an outstanding Pirate, Black beard could have been a little more Evil/Scary and held a bit of a funny man role which i didn't like, but i really enjoyed the film as a hole

In the middle of AI: Artificial Intelligence.

First act is great. While the acting is pretty bad (Monica and Henry particularly overact), the theme and message is riveting. You can tell that Stanley Kubrick really knew what was up.

Second act is awful. With all of the cyberpunk Jude Law nonsense and metal music. This is why I hate Steven Spielberg. Third act will be watched tonight. But right now, I give it a 6/10.
 
X-Men: First Class

I really wasn't expecting much when I saw the trailer, but my sister's a comics fan, so we went and saw it. James McAvoy :-)ohoho:) did a splendid job as Charles Xavier. Can't say I was fond of the complete casting, but they did a good job over-all. It had a lot more depth in terms of the plot compared to the other X-Men films, which I loved. Great effects, and it connects to its audience.

I heard a ripple of sighs and 'ooh's at Hugh Jackman's cameo. :ohoho:

One of the best Marvel movies. I'm on my way to creating graphic tributes for this. :rage:

Dr Strangelove.
It was great, very funny for a black comedy too. The acting is superb George C Scott and Sterling Hayden are both wonderful as is Peter Sellers who plays three seperate characters. The movie is a black comedy about the US accidently nuking most of the USSR and that triggering a Soviet Doomsday device. It satirises the whole MAD thing.
 
I just watched Kung Fu Panda 2 last Friday.

And...holy crap. It's very good. I was expecting some decline in relation to the original but...daaaaaamn was I wrong. The sequel is probably stronger than the original, even.

First of all I need to say that it shows that Guillermo del Toro has stuck his talented fingers in this. It shows and it's probably one of the best things that could've happened to the franchise. The movie has a darker, slightly more serious tone, without taking away the family-friendly attitude or the penchant for well-timed jokes and comedy. It's really giving us the next step in Po's development as a kung-fu master and as a character without dumbing it down to typical cartoon storytelling.

If anything, the movie treats the development and the circumstances of Po's past and their effects on his present quite seriously and with a sensitivity I wasn't expecting. The movie takes the audience down some fairly dark paths, just to steer them (and Po) towards a hopeful look of the world, something very few movies partly aimed to kids achieve without being cheesy.

On the other hand, the movie's also improved on the standards the first one set for action sequences. If you were ever a fan of asian wuxia films like I am, you'll appreciate all the insane kung-fu action going on in various parts of the movie. The fact that Po is now a kung-fu master on the level of the Furious Five does not take away at all the fact that his fighting style is utterly hilarious. The movie continues the other tradition established by the first movie, inserting a lot of color and motion into the action, resulting in a vibrant fantasia of martial arts and fun.

The voice acting is again top-tier. Besides the return of the cast from the last film, the new voices put more perspective into the characters. Gary Oldman simply owns the film as Lord Shen (but then again that's what he generally does to any movie he's in, he EATS. IT. UP) and I'd even say that if you aren't into cartoons, watch it just for him.

Now, I know a lot of people don't like Jack Black, and I'd have to say that if you put this movie down just because of that, it's a mistake. He kind of makes the character of Po work because he puts so much enthusiasm in that fluffy guy that you can't help but love him.

Probably most significantly, this movie made me cry. Cartoons have not managed to make me sniffle since The Lion King. I don't cry easily at movies. My heart's frozen and largely buried and yet I found my eyes streaming behind the 3D glasses in this one. There is one particular scene, that I don't want to spoil, where a particular character utterly dominates the scene without so much as a word of speaking lines. The scene is powerful simply because of what you see happening and the gorgeously animated expressions of the characters involved. It WILL make you feel like you want to cry.

All in all, this movie is FREAKING AWESOME AND YOU SHOULD GO SEE IT. GO NOW.
 
Aw, I was hoping someone would have reviewed Super 8 already. I'm about to go see it in a few minutes.

I watched Hall Pass last night. These types of movies hold my attention but they're sort of boring at the same time. Comedy-romance stuff bores me. D:



I saw Pirates 4 in theatres not long ago. I liked some of the ideas that they had; e.g. the mermaids. But there was too much going on at the same time. It was fun seeing Jack and Barbosa again but it seemed like they were beating a dead horse. The original Pirates trilogy is as good as it gets; it was so phenomenally great that nothing will ever be better in terms of spinoffs.

I give the story an 8/10
And the actuall direction of the film a 7/10
 
North by Northwest.

Despite by good pal Licky partly ruining the film it was still very good. It's a thriller/spy type movie. Carey Grant plays this New York advertising guy who is suspected of being a spy by the baddy. So the baddy tries to kill him etc etc and Carey Grant saves the day and gets the girl. There's also a very funny scene in an auction and a great chase over Mt Rushmore.
 
Easy A

This movie was alright. Horny Teenagers with constant rumors spreading actually made a good movie, shockingly. Emma Stone did a great job in the movie, and I surprisingly laughed quite a bit. There were parts that I was just going ":srsly:", but then at other times I was going ":rofl:".

So, overall I'd give the movie a 7/10 for the story, and 8/10 for the direction, and quality of laugh material.

Not only does whoever wrote this have a sick and creepy mind, but the acting was only mediocre.
There are no positive points to this movie. Besides the movie having a sickening plot, there is no real substance. I hear they are making a second, where they will chain either 6 or 12 people? Are you for real? I think I will go vomit my heart out.

This movie gets a 1/10. Wait, can I give it a 0? Then I give it a 0.

Worst.Movie.Ever.

We got this on Netflix in the mail on Wednesday and just got around to finally watching it last night. Its a heist movie and it has Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Christ Brown, Hayden Christensen, and T.I in it. This was really good....probably the best heist movie I've seen since The Town with Ben Affleck in it. I really thought the fact that so many overrated stars and rappers were in it would completely ruin it, but it honestly didn't.

Naturally, there are 5 friends who are planning a heist together. They are all smart men and wealthy, so they can easily get their hands on the materials to do the job. Until one gets out of Jail and throws everything out of order for them.

The action sequences were really fab, the guys are all fun to look at (esp. Paul Walker imo...they even show a bum shot and omg :inlove:), and the plot is really good. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes heist/action movies...and like I said don't be thrown off by the plethora of celebrities in it...the movie is still "so great" as Hal would say :gasp:
 
Ramona and Beezus

Poor little Ramona -- I feel her, I was just like that as a kid. This movie made me sad, I don't feel like anyone accepted Ramona for who she was and it didn't encourage kids to be who they are at all. Sad movie.

The story line seemed rushed, Selena Gomez was a less than minor character so why she was on the cover is beyond me -- I thought it was going to be a sister bond movie but even Ramona's sister didn't accept her, imo Beezus' consoling words were totally forced and the move was rushed to an ending.

All in all I say; 5/10 -- great characters, good story, not greatly thought out time-line.
 
The Green Lantern

I'm gonna say now I wasn't impressed with it. Maybe I have a Marvel bias, but GL was pretty sub par, if that.

This movie might have been amazing 10 years ago, but the story moved pretty fast at parts and wasn't anything to write home about, and I couldn't really connect with the characters.

The hero's struggles were pretty superficial, the antagonist was just downright lame, and the leading lady was nothing but a damsel in distress. Though that tends to be the pattern with all super hero movies, but I didn't get much of a feel with her. There was one scene where she kind of has a moment of awesomeness, but that's it.

I'm not really familiar with the Green Lantern in the first place, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but honestly, I expected a little more than I got.

Honestly, I half wanted to duck out in the middle of the movie and just watch X-Men again :lew:

I have to say, for a movie with a $300 million budget, I was expecting a lot more. The effects looked kind of fake in some parts. There were a lot of dull moments and there were many scenes that in my opinion, weren't necessary. They could have been put into adding better battle scenes. The final battle was too short, it kind of left me wanting more. A good half of the movie was spent on just waiting for the protagonist to take action. Towards the end of the movie, I wasn't sure if I liked it or I didn't (and the mere fact that I can't decide where I stand must mean it's the latter.)

I'm actually really disappointed. I even watched it in 3D. :sad3:
