How's your sense of direction?

A week ago I had the "privilege" to drive to Anaheim and navigate its streets as we chased various wedding and reception venues. Needless to say after just one round driving around I learned most of the streets and how they worked without having to consult a map one time.

I'm generally good with my sense of direction as I can generally find my bearings by remembering landmarks or remembering street names. I never get lost either, as I can drive around and figure out the map of the streets again from landmarks. Can't say the same for the parents though. :lew:

My sense of direction is a bad however it has gotten a bit better. Mind you I still have to have several maps and a GPS with me if I want to go anywhere out of the ordinary but I do believe I know my way around more than I did when I first got my car. I remember the first day I got my car, I was going home from my brother's house then somehow I managed to find myself in Alexandria VA which is literally in the other direction of where I have to go to get home. Good thing I had my cell phone with me or else I would have been screwed. XD

My sense of direction is pretty sporadic. Once I've been somewhere, I'll know how to get back there again... but only by travelling down the same route. If I had to find it another way, I get totally lost.

For example, my mum was taking me back to my Uni flat, and the road we normally take was closed, so she had to go the other way, and was relying on me for directions. All the landmarks were there... but I just didn't recognize them, and we drove around for about half an hour in a haze of confusion. Bad times.

Ugh I'm terrible.

If we're ever going somewhere different Steve is always the one to drive.

He used to be a Taxi driver too so that helps a lot.

I would love to try and get around on my own and figure out a few places on my own but I'm just too nervous. Getting lost makes me scared and so Steve just always drives unless we're going somewhere I'm familiar with.

I'm one of those people who doesn't know if I'm in the North, South, East or West. =/

Someone rang the pharmacy the other day and asked if our pharmacy was on the Westbound side of the shopping centre. I was like, "I honestly have no idea."

No idea. I mean i know my way round the city i live in pretty damn well and could get to pretty much anywhere from anywhere. As for cross city travel theres sign posts if your bad and with gps you cant really get lost :rage:

My sence of direction is rather good unless someones verbally telling me where to go. If you tell me to go left i'll automatically go right. So I need them to use hand signals with me,im Dyslexic so eh my friends have learned to keep their hands in the air

Otherwise you could drop me Egypt and id find my way home so my sence of direction if fairly tip top~unless im giving directions....I dont remember street names to well I remember the look of the street itself so that makes me faily sucky

:hmmm:, well I'm pretty bad with directions and even giving them :wacky:. The only way I know is how to get to the supermarket down the street, and that's it. I have...like no idea where is where in this blasted city :rage:. I always have to look it up online or call my friends for help to get around :lew:.

I just don't know my way around anywhere. :sad3:

Lol my sense of direction is terrible, unless i've walked the entire town/city 3 times over. I remember one time i was out partying and i was tryin to get home early, and i kept walkin in circles for 3 hours tryin to find the house i was staying at. i ended up callin my roommate and he verbally gave me directions to where he was and walking home with me lol.

terrible. i know my way round where i grew up in carlisle, and that's pretty much it. a few years ago i was driving to a gig in newcastle and had crap directions and we managed to get lost and ended up going over the tyne bridge into gateshead. :wacky:

I have the worst sense of direction in the world :( (maybe not but close)
People come over to me and ask me for simple directions and I just shrug and tell them I have no idea.
Sometimes my boss is talking to me and tells me how he has been to so and so and then says if I know where that is, and I'll say no and he will respond by asking if I even live in Adelaide. What is worse is Adelaide is very small so it's not like it's that hard to learn where places are... I just can't seem to do it :(

I once was walking from work to some place in the city and I had no idea where it was so I pulled out my GPS and was using it to find my way around as I walked....:sad3:

None at all, I still only know where about three of my friends live despite being to all of my pal's houses multiple times. I can't give directions around the two towns either, and I have lived in both all my life. I can't get to my granny's and we went there every weekend for 16 years, it's mostly motorway and like three turns

If I am in a room for a while, I normally turn the wrong way when I leave

My sense of direction is pretty decent. Depending on the place. If I've been there once or twice before I can generally remember how to get there. Likewise I can generally find my way home from an unfamiliar place. I got lost on my way home last year but I reckon that's because I had no idea where I was because I had to follow someone to get there and it was pretty far from the city.

It's pretty easy for me to get lost when I'm in another city on holiday or something. I will often just walk around, stop, realize I have no idea where I am and be unable to retrace my steps.

i get lost kinda easily.. a quick story on that was in 2010 me and my team mate went to akron to race.. we couldn't find the track and my gps glitched on us. so we stupidly kept making left turns and some how made it to the track. well i drove through the downhill derby area and over a grass field but i got there :)

My sense of direction isn't too bad. :hmm: I learn routes fairly quickly and have a general sense of where somewhere is after being there a couple of times. I have gotten lost, though. :lew: Chris and I were once walking through the New Forest along one of my family's walking routes. It was getting dark; the sun had pretty much set, so its light wasn't filtering through the trees to the path below, making it hard to judge where was slippery...and suddenly, I had no idea where to go! I knew the general direction, but not how to get to the path. I spent a few minutes fretting before finally deciding to cross the river because, wherever we were, the car was on the other side of the river and ahead. Moments later, we crossed the path. :wacky: I felt so relieved! :lew:

When it comes to reading maps, I haven't had too much trouble in the past. I really need to go somewhere new with a map and explore! I have faith in my ability to find the way back. :P

so horrible its embarrassing lol..

i drive 30 minutes away and i'm lost..

my parents pretty much expect a call from me whenever i'm going somewhere new.. even if i've brought directions, cause i will still manage to get lost every time lol and then i panic like crazy hahaha

:(

i dont think its that bad really considering how often i get lost, i always end up where im looking for eventually, its like i point in the right direction, but soemwhere along the line il deviate off the path, do a massive detour and finally land where i need to be

I remember going to toms mums on my own for the first time ever not so long ago, its literally a 5 minute drive, got there ok - that estate is like a maze, but coming back i took a wrong turn.... 45 minutes later i saw a bus i recognised and followed it homw

Ok, so that example says my sense of direction is shocking, but at least im always in the right direction....kinda,...

My sense of direction is pretty much non-existent. I'm not the sort of girl to turn to and ask, "How do you get to Place A from Place B?" I can't map out areas very well and it takes me weeks ... maybe even months to memorize how to get from say one place to another. I feel like it's necessary for me to clarify what I mean, I'm talking about my sense of direction in terms of driving. When I walk somewhere it's not too bad but driving is a different animal for me. The whole process of making mental notes for landmarks (i.e: "Okay CVS is on the left and when I pass that there's that Colonial Park about 2 miles north of that ...") is novel and intimidating for me. I become freaked out when someone asks me to point out how to drive like 2 miles from where they're idling their vehicle. I just usually give them a cute dumbfounded look and say, "Sorry I can't really help you."

Like one time I was walking back from job hunting around my neck of the woods and this butch looking chick on a motorcycle flagged me down. I approached her and she asked me about the quickest route to get to ... some place. I don't remember. Anyway I gave her directions that could get her to the halfway point, because I sort of knew what she was talking about but to safely get her to her destination? I was clueless. I told her to just look for a gas station because usually gas station attendants have a great eye and shit for landmarks and could help her out. :monster:

But yeah tl;dr post's shorter version is: Sneaker is absolute shite when it comes to driving to new locations and it takes her a while to memorize landmarks. However, she can walk to places and she's pretty good at directing people when they have to travel on foot somewhere (not too far).

I think my sense of direction is okay. I can make my way around town by looking at the buildings and stores. I know which store is where already. So if I see *insert store name here*, I'll know that I'm X amount of blocks away from home. Which is a good thing. I also know to find the circle forest, after I find that, I just make a right turn and then I'm home.
