I wanna see what you guys think are some of the best (and worst, I suppose) names out there for boys and girls. Even better, state what you woud like to name your child someday and try to state why you came up with the name.

To start:

Boys:

Alwyn (but my husband hates it with a passion)
Cade
Collin
Jason (or Jace)
Kelvin
Ken
Miguel
Ryan
Sean
Spencer
Tristan
Travis
Xander
Zack

Girls:

Bianca
Caleigh
Carys
Claire
Estella
Giselle
Jade
Jane
Mikaela (or Micah)
Sarah (or Serah)
Scarlett
Skyla
Tricia
Wendy

Anyway, the list goes on and on, but those are the ones I can think at the top of my head at the moment. We already have a " Leilani Rayne " (Leilani meaning heavenly flower, and Rayne was suggested by my brother who was playing BloodRayne at the time) so we were thinking that if we are to have another child, for a boy it would be:

Zack Alexander - NO not Zack because of FF7 for goodness sake. -_- I just love the name. And Alexander was his choice since he thinks it's a 'strong name'...whatever that is. He wanted it " James Alexander " at first (which actually flows a little better) but I like Zack better.

And for a girl:

Mikaela Reimi. This was an easy choice. We both like the name Mikaela (or Mikayla...but I think Mikaela looks better) and Reimi because uh...I just like it. >_<

It's kinda funny since whenever I suggest names, my husband would be like, "You got that off from one of your soap opera or video games, did you?" ...which okay, half of the time that's true, but a name is a name, I say!

The woman has already decided what she wants her daughters to be named.

Evelyn Dianne and Sarah Alice May.

The first is just names that she likes; the second are family names.

I/We haven't decided yet for a boy, though I like the names Isaac and Dominic, which is a family name, and she likes Nathan or Nathaniel, Peter, and Lloyd, which is also a family name.

I don't have as many favourites for boys, but I like the names Brendan and Ethan...that's it actually xD

For girls in no particular order, Isobelle (NOT Twilight related, I liked it years ago and Ive probably spelt it wrong....) Eve/Evelyn, Lilly. Gah there's one or 2 more im sure of it, but those are my favourites anyway.

No real reason for any of them really, I just like the sounds of them... there's not many because well, I don't ever think about names I like often, it just reminds me of picking baby names and it's nothing Ive ever been interested in (naturally I had to think about it when I had Ellie, but before/after, no real reason to..)

I don't often think about names, though when I hear them there are some I am quite fond of. I don't tend to sit there and think about them at length though. I guess I've never had to as I haven't got a child to name.

I quite like some of the classical names, as some of them have been passed down to us now and are quite common or at least used a bit. For boys names such as Alexander and Hector really catch my attention. For girls Penelope stand out the most, but I quite like Cassandra too.

I'm also quite fond of the name Arthur for boys. I think I've found I like names that derive from heroes in myths of any culture really. Though classical and British names would fit in more here in the UK.

If I was ever to get a girlfriend or a wife and have a child I don't know if I'd make a massive fuss over the names, but I would secretly want the above.. Actually I lie, I'd secretly want (if a boy) my child to be called Odysseus, but I know my girlfriend or wife will probably not be very happy with that. :D I personally think the name rocks... It might be a mouthful for some people but it can be shortened to Ody!

Hercules or Heracles might be awesome too. I'd probably buy him a club for his first birthday, and a lion-skin for his second.

I also wouldn't mind making up names based on something me and future-wife/gf / in my dreams share, and so naming the child that would signify this.. But it'd probably sound really silly and would probably not suit being a name.

So yeah, I've not really thought about it until now, but it was a pleasant excercise. I know the sort of names I like, but would not often see people with, and would probably never have children with those names. :D

You may want to watch out with that one. The O in Odysseus is 'short' so, he may end up being referred to as Od (which sounds like odd) :P

I don't see why any pop culture item should keep you from giving your child a name. It probably is very cheesy to name your child Micheal Jackson <last name>, Squall, or the name of some sports player, but if you and your partner really like the name, why not? It's not like your child is going to follow in the footsteps of the namesake and become a copy of this person.

Personally, I really like a couple of letters, for either their sound or the aesthetic effect in writing. When I would have to pick a name, I would pick one with at least one of these letters. An alternative or very old spelling can give a name also some extra uniqueness or style.

Also, for girl names, I like names that end in an 'a' or an 'e'. I think it adds some extra femininity. For guy names. I never ever once read or heard a guy name which struck me as a brilliant name or some name that I would like to give to my child, dog or whatever creature needs naming. I guess I'll leave that up to the future wife if we ever get children :P

For girl names, I'd go for:
Avlynn/Lynn
Elisa
Lissa/Lyssa/Lisse/Lysse
Aya (which has several meanings in Japanese, varying from 'night' to 'arrow', and it's also Arabic, having something to do with 'god's work' or something, go multiple meanings!)
or some nature related name like Linde (tilia tree) or Sterre (star)

I try to stay away from the English sounding names, they just get butchered by Dutch accents anyway. Names like Sean or Ian often sound really bad when a Dutchie pronounces them.

Boys
Ivan
Dustin
Justin
Matt / Matthew

Girls
Iris
Shirley
Laynie / Lanie or htfever its spellled. <_<
Katie / Kat/ Catlyinn or other variations of the name and shit. :wacky:

...Yeah, I'm not too big on names. I doubt I'll ever be anyone's father, but I think I'll just shirk picking names and let the woman decide. :dave:

I don't plan on having kids for a good ten years yet but I've been deciding on my children's names for the last two years.

I really want something PERFECT for my little angels. I don't want to give them some crappy name I thought of at the last minute. I can't believe how many people do this actually. One of the ladies at work is eight months pregnant and she said she hasn't even bothered looking up names. Another person didn't name their baby until one month after it was born!

I don't want some common name that everyone in their class is going to have either.

I don't want to give them a weird name that they will get teased by either.

I want to give them a gorgeous name that will be unique and everyone will fall in love with. XD

So far I've settled on a few names that I'll give them if I still can't find something within the next ten years. XD

Girl

Charlotte Heather Hennessy

(I just like those names. I was originally going to have Heather Hennessy and just that, but then I fell in love with Charlotte. XD)

Boy

Jett William Xavier

(Jett just sounds cool and William is Steve's Grandads name and Xavier is just another cool name I like.)

Other names that I like are:

Girl

Isabelle
Antoinette (my best friends name)
Mischa

Mia

Boy

Richard (from The Blue Lagoon movie. XD)
Westley (from The Princess Bride movie. XD)

(Just a note that every time watch a movie and fall in love with the guy I decide then and there that I will call my son that name. XD)

Names I don't like:

Girl

Sarah (too many Sarahs. It's boring. Also the name of my ex best friend. <_<)
Jessica (too many of those too. >_<)

I only dislike them because they're common.

Boy

Matthew (Once again too common)
Oscar
(Who on earth thought it was okay to name their baby after some filthy garbage monster off Sesame Street. It sounds shit!)

I've never really thought about my favourite names before, but now that I do...

Boys:
Dave
Tobias

Girls:
Alicia
Chloe
Eve

I just like the way those sound, for some reason.

The names Jake and Esther always appeal to me for some reason....I like odd names! Odd but meaningful and creative!

What Kandy said. I really like the name Mischa. ...I may also be wishing it for myself. :gonk: I've only got two so far that I really like: Mischa Hannah for a girl, and Hugh Marcus for a boy.

I can't say I'm set on those, as of now they just sound pretty good to me. :tehe:

I generally like more original and unique, interesting names. But there are some nice common names too. :)

For a Girl my favourites are:

Ava
Emma
Sarah (Serah)
Alaina (Alayna)
Skye

Boys I like:

Leon
Xane
Xavier
Xander
Zack
Alex
Aiden

I may name my future child one of these names. There's probably more that I can't think of at the moment.

I don't like these names:

Barry (Always makes me think of a fat person, as they usually have this name. Lol.)
Christian (It's a name for a religion.. >_<)
John, Mike, Matt (Too common and boring)
Jim (Boring)
Penny (Sound's silly, makes me think of an old person)
Angus, Agatha, Mildred (Sound horrible and old)
Dick (Enough said)

Oh and what does it matter where you get the name from? As long as it's a nice name and not something like Sephiroth or Ultimecia, then what's the problem? A name is a name, just as you say! :P

Boys: Sean, Dave, Jack.

Girls: Crystal, Rose, Rebecca, Emily, Jessica.

All I can think of off the top of my head. Not really many preferred boys names, there are a handful of girls names I particularly like. :)

I always have a tough time deciding on what names I like, because they're always changing. Sooner or later I'll find a new name that sounds better than the one before. Luckily, I won't be having kids for a long while, so I have time to think of what I like.

I'll start off with names I definitely wouldn't use. I don't necessarily hate them, and if you have one of these names I really don't mind. I just wouldn't name my child:

Hannah, Rebecca, Jessica, Sarah, Lauren, Austin, Matt (Matthew sounds nice, but if I named my kid this no doubt his friends would start calling him Matt, which I don't like.), David, Aiden, Jack, Justin, Zack/Zach, Megan, Dalton, Dylan, Melanie, Sean, Emily.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Really, I wouldn't use them because they are too common and if my child ends up with my family history of anxiety, then they would just blend into the background.

I only have a select few that I'd use at the moment. For girls: Accalia, Ariella, and Elaine, even though Elaine is sounding a bit common to me now. I really would like to have a name from mythology, but all of the names are quite obvious. For a boy, I liked Alexandre, since it's off from just the common Alex, but in all honesty I would just have my husband decide for a boy, with both of our approvals. Hopefully he will have a good relationship with his parents and maybe he'll want to name the child after his father or mother.

On general terms (no interest in producing offspring, and I have yet to determine whether a child would be better off alive or in hypothetical space), I am partial to the feminine names:

Angelica (for its Latin roots)
Cheryl (something about the sound and spelling)
Lauren (really strong, dramatic syllable at the end)

As far as the male case goes, I tend towards the embellished and unusual, a decent example being Matthias. Although pretty rare, I would imagine, Jesper is a damned fine first name, too. ^_^

Boys. (I like)

Chris(Christopher)
Mark
Don
John
Mike
Ron

Girls (I Like)

Alicia
Sarah
Kristen
Becky(Rebekah)

Girls. (I don't like)

Bethany. O wait...

Anyway, just a rough idea of what names I like I don't like. There are a lot I like. But it would take forever to type them all.
