Final Fantasy XIII – team talks cancelled DLC, possible sequel [2/10]

DLC for FFXIII? What a horrible thought...whilst a little challenge would have been nice from the game, I would have preferred it if they made the learning curve a little steeper (as in, an actual curve, and not a straight line with the odd small bump) instead of just packing it all in at the end.

As for a sequel...no, thanks. The characters, the soundtrack and the gameplay are only memorable in how sub-par they were, and I have no desire to return to the world of Cocoon with its barely explained, confusing and frequently used terminology, lack of proper villainy and straight-line pathways anytime soon.

A new game every two years would be nice, though. Most other developers manage that easily, I don't see why Square Enix couldn't. Although I've lost a lot of the faith I had in Square Enix's ability to make quality games as the year has progressed, so perhaps a little more development time might be in order, in the hopes that they'll get something right with their next batch of games.

...oh, and they should fire Toriyama. Immediately.

Thank gods. DLC is fucking stupidest idea. I want my Final Fantasies to be a completed project - a disc I can put on a shelf and treasure it. Not a floating ghost of a dlc crap, that will disappear in 10 years, when there would be Playstation 10.

The only reason ff13 sold so well was because their consumers/customers were tricked by the FF stamp..

Thank God there wont be a sequel ,,phew!! they would only waste time investing in such a sequel..

Yes its better just to move on and begin on FFV !!!! EDIT: FFXV !!

TY GalaxyFlare for the rectification :awesome:

You mean FFXV OJ? lol

Its best that they focus on the rest of..........Fabula nova Crystallis(?) and that wea get at least 2 out of 3 games in the 90% approval rating score, plus dissidia DuoDecim set to hit next year it should Logically be assumed "great times ahead" for S-E.........the say you have to hit rock bottom to bounce back again.

Have S-E really fallen so far?

You can't like games then when nearly ALL games nowadays come with DLC planned before release. Ten years down the line games will be probably more digitally orientated than ever before, you'll have more DLC (y)

True there will be more DLC not less.
Square I am sure knows they are behind ignoring DLC, so I don't expect Wada to pass it up the next time he has a chance.

shrugs...

Maybe they need more time to do proper plot and character developement.\More time to improve gameplay.

Maybe every 2 years is too ambitious for an rpg.

I swear I heard about this news a long time ago... :hmmm:

lol, so I guess I'm one of the rare that actually liked FFXIII's story concept, the characters and their interactions (along with the voice acting), enjoyed the music, enjoyed the battle system and found it to be frustratingly difficult at times?

First off Wada's just too scared of what people are saying online. I'm confident that more people liked the game than hated it. I mean, how often have you liked something AND went online to say you liked it? Usually people say how much they hate something, so of course it's intimating, but the Wada's gotta have a little more faith *sighs*

I've always said I hate the idea of DLC, and even for FFXIII (no, ESPECIALLY for FFXIII), I'm glad it wasn't used. As for the idea of making a sequel (?) game of FFXIII, meh, I'd look out for it, but I admit I don't really want one and I don't even think the game would need one.

My main fear is that the story in a sequel will be lame like FFX-2's story was. FFX-2 had a great gameplay, but the story was just so...filler-ish and tacked on :ness:

And anyways, Kitase saying "if there's a demand for a sequel, we'll consider it" is basically what he always say for all the games xD

He said that for Dissidia way back when it came out, and granted, anticipation is pretty high despite the very few nay sayers about Duodecim, but a sequel/prequel probably wasn't in the works at the time Dissidia came out, you know?

The main FF games inevitably sell really well when released. If SE contemplates direct sequels every time this happens from now on, they may as well go ahead and come out with Final Fantasy Versus XIII-2 and Final Fantasy XV-2 in the future. :gonk:

I swear I heard about this news a long time ago... :hmmm:

So do I. I think it was the article where it was either Wada or Kitase who said that if FFXIII sells really well in the west, then they would consider a sequel. Sales-wise, FFXIII was certainly not a disaster. It became the best selling game of the week (in the UK at least), and shipped a large number of copies. But that was before all the criticisms from players rolled in though. xD

I'm sorry but when has 'if there's enough demand for it' ever meant anything to SE? When have they EVER listened to what the fans wanted? If we meant anything to them, we'd already have announcements for FFV and VI remakes, and VII would already be released by now.

Also XIII has a good ending. Leave it alone. If they do anything with it, maybe do a prequel, maybe in Fang and Vanille's time, show what happened there. Maybe there were other L'Cie with them, show the creation of everythingg at the beginning. FAR more interesting imo.

I thought it was good. It ended, and that's what matters, there weren't any loose ends that needed tying.

FFXIII is a cliff hanger what do you want? you cannot possibly want every game to have a perfect denouement :P

Cliff hanger how? They beat the bad guy, Fang and Vanille completed their original focus. The sub characters came back to life. There was little to no cliff hanger what so ever in the game.

Not sure if the sequel should happen, to be perfectly honest. Just look at what it did for FFX. Thanks to FFX2, the sequel sort of ran the fun of ffx for some people, at least of what i know. But if they can have the time between KH, Versus, and Agito, then I say why the hell not.

Thank you. I was about to say, the last time they made a sequel to an existing Final Fantasy title it bombed. Who wants to bet a Final Fantasy XIII-2 would meet the same fate? That said though Final Fantasy X-2 could have been awesome but that's a post for a different thread. A sequel to XIII could be awesome too if they got their act together. I'd like for Square Enix to try to redeem themselves to fans here be it Final Fantasy XV, Verse XIII or XIII-2.

But every two years? Okay this I can understand. Final Fantasy VII came out in 97, VIII came out in 99 and they were both top notch, so was IX which came out a year later and X which came out two years after that. But nowadays can they make a real good story and such be in that amount of time? I wouldn't mind if I had to wait five years for another Final Fantasy game if it meant the story and everything would be top notch like they used to be. But that's just me.

FFXIII was particularly shit, why would anyone want a sequel? :wacky:

sometimes I wonder why I just can't walk into a gaming industry's conference meeting and steal the president's position. the amount of bullshit that comes out of wada's mouth is pretty outstanding. :wacky:

It may have been good for some people, but it's become painfully obvious that Square is just throwing shit at fans and throwing very few good releases.

FFXIII was a massive kick in the balls to any Veteran of Final Fantasy that enjoyed the traditional style of play that FF has always featured, even FFXII, the bastard ginger child of the FF series.

i don't know how things work in Japan, but here in america, we usually like to eat our fanservice first, and bullshit after. if you eat the bullshit first (in this case, 30 hours of beating off and watching tv instead of actually playing the game), no one cares about the fanservice.

the whole damn game was like a box of soggy chips with no added alternatives

you might have a few with some ketchup or chili and cheese, but you always end up just throwing it to the dog once you don't have anymore :hmph:

Who wants to bet a Final Fantasy XIII-2 would meet the same fate?

well that depends

will there be tits, or at least remotely appealing gameplay with big numbers and shiny glowy explody limit breaks? flashy flashes and tits are huge factor in sales. :neomon:
