[20/02] Square Enix Promises New FF Title at E3 2013

For some time now, Sony has been teasing their big press event scheduled for today, February 20th. A few minutes ago, Square Enix's Final Fantasy Brand Manager, Shinji Hashimoto, took the stage for only a few moments to tell everyone to "be very excited" for E3, saying that a "new Final Fantasy title" will be presented there.

Directly prior to this announcement, SE Director Yoshihisa Hashimoto was on stage to again present last year's "Agni's Philosophy" demo, this time supposedly running on Playstation 4 hardware. He commented that the demo was "not a game" and therefore it is unlikely that this coming E3 we'll see a new FF game based on the demo.

This is the typical Square Enix announcement. I called it though, I KNOW I did! Square Enix said a new FF, but they fully mean a new name for FF Versus XIII and a showing at e3 for ps4. It is inevitable. Nobody is going to care for Versus on ps3 since PS4 just got announced now. My god.... those graphics were just over the top.

I have to admit... I did not even get one bit excited because they showed something we already saw but when the other Hashi went on stage... I thought he would show a reveal trailer for Versus on ps4. He just decided to troll everyone and say "wait for e3" when tonight was the perfect night to show it.

Maybe we will finally see Stella with some Vocal cords, and Noctis out of that dark room.(Se let him out after all these years?)

Yeah, not a very exciting announcement.
 
And then FFF screamed and cried about how Square Enix is destroying the franchise and themselves in the process.
 
ultimadream - the whole point of the press event tonight was to lay the groundwork for E3, I think. Rather than spend a couple hours introducing everything like they did tonight, now they can launch right into showing us the details. From the get-go, Sony and SE have an audience because people are now coming to E3 specifically to find out more about what was announced tonight. They don't have to capture their attention at the expo itself. It's a great strategy for becoming the most noteworthy at such a big event.
 
How revelatory! We have learnt that the Luminous Engine for Agni's will run real-time on the PS4!

Hold on, I've just remembered that Versus may use a bit of the similar Luminous Engine, so I'm sort of wondering now whether they actually will decide to go cross-generational with Versus. Or just throw in the towel with the PS3 and go PS4 only with this.

And the prospect of dropping the name and calling it FFXV seems more likely now. They won't announce a NEW NEW FF game at E3 when a) there is Lightning Returns to focus on, b) there is FFXIV to focus on, c) there is Versus somewhere on the horizon to focus on, and d) with the whole ARR: FFXIV thing eating up so much manpower, it would be way too early to announce anything wholly new.

SE, you could have basically revealed your whole show on Twitter. You were easily the worst show tonight. And Hashimoto's "PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO E3" says it all, really.
 
Fleur - you forgot FFX HD...yeah, I'd say they've got more than enough FF titles to work on for now :ness:

All I can say is, there better be a ton of FF to show at E3. If they only demo one game that a lot of people feel is/will be vaporware, it's not going to improve PR any for them.
 
Hmm... I'll be looking forward to this announcement. Hopefully, it'll be something cool and exciting. However after I read about all the FF titles they're currently working on, I got a little less excited. Even if they do announce a new game, it probably won't be released for another 2-5 years. So that kinda sucks. But other than that, maybe they'll even have some new footage of games currently being worked on.

possibly....but lets jusr wait until after the reveal
 
SE made quite the mistake imo. SE is determined to westernise their IP or cater more to western customers yet they let a great opportunity go to waste.

They should have announced Versus. Shit I didnt even expect SE to be there at all, but showing something we already seen is lame lmao...pfff.

I dont even think their trying to cater the western fans, they could easily rework type-0 onto Vira, they can also release bravely default onto western shores. They releasing crappy games such as FF:ATB.
 
This new Final Fantasy isn't even on my radar at the moment. I am just waiting for the Versus XIII release information I have been dying to hear. I'm almost afraid that maybe they've scrapped the game altogether. :sad3:

Since it coincides with the other rumor of v 13 being renamed and ported to PS4, some believe this new FF is really versus XIII

That's what I think. Seems likely considering what SE are like. It makes sense we wouldn't have heard if they'd decided to make it for the PS4, they couldn't say anything until the PS4 was announced.
 
SE is killing me with all of their shite self-hyped I.O.U's :wacky:

Their announecment will be that Versus will be the opening FF title for the ps4 and it will contain the same trailer we saw in 2011, except if we are lucky it might have 10 extra seconds of content to it. If we are unlucky, they will just do what they usually do and do the usual

An 8 month old trailer... that isn't even a game, but a mere tech demo... why didn't I see that coming? They were actually the worse developer on stage that night. :dry:

And how irrelevant could Shinji Hashimoto's appearance be? It was basically "Hey everyone, cool show. Oh btw, new FF, E3, look forward to it".

Like what the hell, seriously. Lmao. He just trolled the lot of us. Why even be at the PS4 reveal if all you have to mention is a quick segment about E3? Not the time nor place. I was actually thinking they were gonna show us Versus/XV too..

Sighhhhhh.
 
Well let's see how it goes. It'll be another hilarious disappointing announcement as usual. sigh.


I miss the days where they used to actually deliver. Last one I knew was KH, KH2 and FFXII! The rest all blew to hell and never saw the light unless it took a shit ton of time!
 
It was kind of a letdown to only receive an announcement,
but hopefully they will reveal a release date for versus within an extended or new trailer for it at e3.

I personally hope/dream that KH hd edition and FFX hd edition is released in a decent time before the ps4 is so that I have something to play while waiting for the ps4 price drop. :yay:
 
I've developed a sort of phobia of hoping for a Versus XIII announcement. Even if they did, what could they say? It's still coming? Release date? Going to be on a new system?

I'm not jaded, not even upset! Still a big FF fan, I just... zero expectations. Plus E3's pretty far away so hopefully it'll be long enough that I can be somewhat surprised.
