Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

This...wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The acting was shoddy, the plot was hold-your-hand stereotypical, and whilst the special effects were nice, in movies these days they always are...yet it was still moderately entertaining.

Some wonderful violence, a pretty good soundtrack and, unlike some other superhero movies I could name (Spiderman 3, all of the X-Men films, etc) it was actually fun to watch, and didn't try to be more impressive than what it was. It could have been a lot worse.

i literally just got back from seeing this. it's from the producers and (i think) writing team of the hangover, about a high school party that gets way out of hand. despite having a few flaws - mostly with the story - it compensates by being ridiculously outrageous and you can excuse it being a bit unbelievable.
the three main characters are a bit annoying, but again that can be forgiven because the film is funny enough to make up for it. you have to see it to believe some of the insane shit that happens at the party. not to spoil anything, but randall from scrubs (the midget janitor) makes an excellent appearance in it!
 
The last movie I saw was Drive, and predictably it was absolutely amazing. The cast was just stellar, Gosling in particular. He really sold the idea of the Driver being a real and perfectly plausible person. Even Carrie Mulligan was really good, even if she is a rat faced man stealing whore. Christina Hendricks showed up for a while which was great, then her head was erased with a shotgun, which was much less great.

The soundtrack is the best soundtrack I have ever heard, except for maybe the Little Mermaid
 
Justice League: Doom(2012)

The plot has been done before: villains band together to form a Legion of Doom to defeat the Justice League.

It sounds boring and redundant, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. :grin:

Comments: I liked this movie, though it didn't feel much like the others. I liked it when The Lycans and Vampires weren't known to humans in the original movies.

The little girl vampire/lycan was awesome though! Freaky little thing. XD

I do wish Michael could have been in it though. :sad3:

the wrestler
mickey rourke gave a fantastic performance in this. it's about an ex wrestler who is still doing it part time in smaller venues, and has a heart attack so he is forced to retire and live a normal life, but he realises that his life is crap without the wrestling.
it has a predictable ending, but a lot of films in that vein do so it's not a bad end.
 
John Carter of Mars

I wasn't expecting much considering the original story is older than Lord of the Rings and was published back in the 1940's.

It was much better than I thought it would be. The ending is one of the saddest and most heartbreaking things I've seen in a long time. I'm impressed they included it considering how unpopular I expect it to be. :ohshit:
 
I've seen quite a few recently...I'm having somewhat of a Leonardo DiCaprio binge for the most part; he's such a good actor! I've seen Titanic, Blood Diamond, a little of Gangs of New York, Revolutionary Road and am currently watching the Aviator. They've all been fantastic! :)

Titanic: 10/10.
It's beautiful, well-acted, poignant and resonant, bitter, the dialogue is witty in places...

Blood Diamond 8/10
Very well made and very important, too, but not necessarily a movie I'd want to watch often or a movie I've yet fallen in love with.

Revolutionary Road 8/10

Gangs of New York 5/10
I'm not so keen on this one, hence why I haven't yet finished watching it. I'll attempt to complete it soon, though, and perhaps review my rating.

The Aviator 8/10
I LOVE the historical feel in this and the music. The story is inteteresting (based on truth) and Leo plays the part incredibly well.

I've also seen the new Jane Eyre, which was VERY boring. The book is a gothic love story but this movie was neither gothic nor a particularly compelling, convincing love story. It wasn't a total disaster, I suppose... The acting was ok. 5/10.

Julie and Julia! 8/10 Meryl Street is utterly fantastic in her role - as ever - and the dialogue is rather witty. It's a nice feel good movie, a little different to a romcom, and IT'S ABOUT FOOD!

What's Eating Gilbert Grape 9/10
This follows Gilbert Grape, played by Johnny Depp, who has to balance the needs of his autistic brother Arnie, played by Leo DiCaprio, against having a job, a sexually demanding mistress and the rest of his family.

This Boy's Live 7/10
This movie was quite interesting, sad and VERY well acted, but didn't capture me as much as the movies I've recently seen.

Finally got around to watching Advent Children. Brilliant, brilliant movie. Don't know what took me so long to watch it.
 
the cabin in the woods
i'm not sure if its been released in america yet, but i got to see an advanced preview screening of it last week. it's a very good film, and very intelligently done. it plays on basically every cliché of the teen slasher film genre, but makes brilliant satire of it all. it wasn't a role i'd have expected of chris hemsworth since thor, but he's enjoyable enough in it.
you really do have to see it to believe it, because it's a bit of a bizarre film.
 
Puss in Boots.

This movie was better than I had expected, but VERY different to the impression I had after watching the trailer. It was less comedy-oriented, I suppose. The comedy which was there worked on a variety of levels, some jokes appealing to children, whilst others appeal to an older audience; I doubt children would have fully understood Puss' somewhat frivolous behaviour with the ladies! :lew:

The character of Puss was likeable and carried the movie well. The new characters helped to reveal a previously unseen side to Puss; he was presented as more caring and vulnerable. However, their own motivations were fairly simple and their developments clichéd.

It's not a masterpiece and I wouldn't tell anyone they HAD to see it, but if you like Puss and enjoyed the mish mash of fairytales in Shrek, it's worth a watch. The movie brought together a few fairytales, primarily Jack and Jill, Jack and the Beanstalk and Humpty Dumpty.
 
i just watched the punisher. its the 2004 version with john travolta as the villain. this is one of my all time favorite movies and i feel it was done the best in comparison to all the other punisher movies. i was kinda hoping it would have a sequal but that is yet to happen. my vote is 9/10
 
Life is Beautiful

It's Italian, with subtitles.

Omg so sad :sad2: At first I was like where is this movie going? It's funny, it's light, and now what my friend said it was gonna be :ahmed: But then when they are talking about Jews and then they are on the train I'm like oh no :sad2: And they are sent to a concentration camp ON THE LITTLE BOY'S BIRTHDAY :rage: The humour was nice and refreshing but omg so sad :sad2: I tried hard not to cry. I didn't, but I got close :sad2:

A political thriller/drama set in Elizabethan England. Essentially it explores the idea that Shakespeare's work was actually written by a nobleman within the court who used Shakespeare as a way to communicate his ideas and sway public opinion. In this regard, a new perspective is given to the famous plays as they serve as an allegory to political life within the Elizabethan court.

While the basic premise is controversial it is quite interesting and the setting feels very authentic. Shakespeare is portrayed as an ignorant douche which I found quite amusing considering how he is usually depicted. All in all a great film.
 
Spawn

Some say that this movie is horrible. I can see in some parts of the movie that people would think that. They really didn't do a good job on some levels, but I still like it. If anything, the producers really captured the creepiness of Spawn and it's themes. Could've done better on the acting, but that's all I can see.

Lockout (2012) 5/10

The President's daughter is touring an orbiting space station prison facility, a mass breakout occurs. She's taken hostage. They send one man to save her. Mainly because the deficit is too large for us to afford sending more than one person hence the 'army of one' thing that is popular of late. *Hack, cough*

Long story short, its pretty horrible. The actress who plays the President's daughter is gorgeous the only real redeeming quality present. :ohshit:
 
The Avengers; I posted a blog with a non spoiler free review about it...but it was bloody amazing!...besides Cinema releases...I saw Analysis This. Robert De Nero playing a troubled gangster, it is a pretty good movie, quite old now as he looks amazingly young in it. I recommend it to anyone who loves him as an actor...or gangster movies.
 
I was dragged along to Coventry to see The Avengers.

I entered with barely any expectations or much in the way of actual knowledge about the film and some of its characters. For instance, I had no idea who Black Widow and Hawkeye were supposed to be. I'm not really a comic book person, and neither have I seen that many superhero movies. I was expecting plenty of action and loud special effects, but I was not expecting good writing. I was expecting sub-par writing, a pathetically weak story, characters that don't even seem human, and generally stupid dialogue that would make me want to throw popcorn around.

But no, I came out very pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it, and Hulk practically made the movie for me. People who have already seen the film, you know which bits I am specifically referring to. The humour was nicely done, and I actually gained a good feel for the characters as being actually rather human and flawed people, and not confined to the one dimension, namely with Stark and whatshisnameCaptainAmerica. Well, Hawkeye was kind of an exception. He was just there, and spent half the film being a minor bad guy. Loki, while he won't ever be one of the most memorable villains ever in cinema, pretty much ticked the right boxes for me in the art of villainy. He was entertaining to watch, had a clear motivation, and didn't suck at his job.

It isn't going to win awards for best film, but it was worth watching. In fact, I would definitely watch this again, maybe as a bit of an apology to the film for having the unfair preconceptions that the film was going to be underwhelming at best, and maybe disastrous at worst, with the action notwithstanding. I quite liked it, even if it wasn't the first film I would immediately suggest heading to the cinema for, and I am glad I was dragged to see it.
 
the avengers

by far the best of the marvel films to date in my eyes. it took the best bits of the other films so far and blended them well without going over the top. i admit i was a little worried that joss whedon wouldn't be able to pull off a film like this, but he managed to make it his own without betraying the material he was given. i loved hawkeye in it, i thought they did a great job of filling out his character a lot from his small appearance in thor, and the same with black widow. i'd much rather see a hawkeye film next than any other (though i hear marvel might be planning a nick fury film in the near future). i thought they managed to blend in a lot of good humour at just the right moments, particularly later on. i liked how bruce banner can now control the hulk if he chooses to get angry, that made him a lot more interesting and more of a hero than he's usually portrayed as.

basially, watch it.
 
i just watched "aaah Zombies" again.. its a zombie movie done through the perspective of the zombie. a B-movie but a funny one. i recommend it if you have some free time and have nothing else better to watch.
