I'm not entirely sure that we don't do this already, but it's been well received wherever I've seen it. A certain amount of members are chosen; ones who have been particularly for that month and fellow FFF members vote for them.

As an alternative, again this may already be going on, could we maybe introduce member awards. Now, with this I swear I can recall seeing it around here, but definately not in a long time.
Each member has a selection of generic nominations to fill out and post, such as:

Best Writer:
Funniest:
Friendliest:
Most Evil:
Best graphic artist:

Etc...Then votes can get counted and obviously whoever gets the most, wins.
If this has already been mentioned and I've overlooked it, please close the thread :)

Thanks!

I certainly haven't seen this kind of thread anywhere. I think this is a great idea. Maybe we could add some more choices on the list as well. Maybe:

Best new member,
Biggest camera whore,
Best thread maker,
Biggest shoutbox whore,

just to name a few.

Annual awards make more sense to me. We have monthly competitions, or even weekly ones in some cases so there's no real need for categorising like that.

Despite not being a writer, not being particularly funny, as friendly as Gary Glitter with the lit'lins, more annoying that actualy evil and with the Graphics skills of a blind hippy on dope...I vote for myself on all categories.

On a more seirous note. Good idea! ^_^

I think we should definately add some more, I was just listing a few that came to mind ^_^
If we don't do member of the month, maybe the member awards could be done every 2 months? I just think it would be a good extra event to take part in.
It's not everyone's kind of thing though, so please give your opinion.

We already had a member awards over the summer. If there will be one it most likely won't be until next year.

Even so, monthly is kinda ehh, no. A monthly thing would work on sites that have thousands of active members.

If we're going to run them again, I'd say do them in a couple of months (i.e. December) and keep then annually then, like most other forums do.

Maybe not in this format, but maybe staff could have a discussion about a certain member who has stood out? Then a mod could announce it via announcment, with a reason why.

Awards can be done yearly or something like that.

Every six months could work... When did the old FFF awards happened? June or July, don't remember.

Agreed.

Also member of the month is a nifty idea.

Member of the month, not a bad idea. There could be a new member category where the winner could have a colored username and whoever wins the next month will be put in the previous winners place.

I think is a great idea to make this a monthly competition since we have alot of members in this forum. Members can be awarded as Member of the Month depending on their actions. I think that members that are well informed and has excellent service should also have a chance to become candidates for this competition. We need to balance this competitions as much as possible so the list of candidates doesn't comes out the same on every month. Voting for the same candidates each times makes this competition less interesting. We have to find a way to balance this out and make it more challenging than it is. That is my personal opinion about what this competition should have.

The annual awards serve the same purpose though dont they?

Having them every month seems a bit ott to me

4 year old topic lol :lew:

What Lewis said, and if it was done, i couldnt see it lasting. It'd get boring

I do think hosting it every month is a bit redundant when you consider the size of this board. I think that for this to work every month, we first need a lot more active members than the amount that we have now. Also there is the issue that if hosted so regularly means that people will grow tired of it and the thing descends into a whole popularity contest rather than what it's actually supposed to be. The Birthweek event being an annual occasion is currently ideal enough anyway.

How would you even begin to decide who is member of the month?

Either way, it would only end up in cliché group voting anyway.

Even Birthweek was left unfinished, which is rather annoying. I think if this were to happen it'd have to be people who are on it and finish it completely. It can get hectic to keep track of this.

Besides a member of the month would just come over as favourite people picking, which is kinda pointless... If you like someone congrats, in my opinion. :wacky:

Ninja'd, but what Ryan said, exactly.

Well the Birthweek contest always tends to take about 1-2 months anyway. I think it would take a lot of work in order to host nominations and voting threads within the short space of a single month, for every month.

Awards for anything other than graphics I can imagine are quite hard to organise, and don't tend to happen all that often. The last Roleplay awards were in March, for example.

To date the Gaming clans haven't clashed heads yet either, so there haven't been any Cruxis vs Tantalus wars, or any Gamer of the Month awards of any sort yet (outside of a few Birthweek events, I think).

The graphics competitions are successful because there is always something present, and people can vote for what people have done. When it comes to the nomination process of members (unless this was chosen by the staff, but this would create a lot of extra work) for something like Member of the Month that would take quite a long time to get out there, I would I think.

I was gonna say something really profound here:hmmm:

I can see the point of the vet members who have stuck around and know the ebbs and flows of the site, Like Kelly FFF premier museum piece :lew:, but i can also understand the the idea from the perspective of newer members.

Seeing folk on the forum with 150,000+ REP and high Post counts and stuff its bit daunting, maybe some earlier recognition for a newr memebere would result in more staying active for rewarded participation, a 1000 post takes some time to acquire
and recognoition earlier on for time of the forum might be what we need to lure and maintain a higher active member list?

Not eligible to Vet members is my recommendation?

Spawn just necro posted XD

I don't see this idea working at all.....I mean it'd probably be just the active members participating and it would probably get boring and die like rp of the month XD But yea I don't see it working out. New members joining wouldn't have been here a month and most just leave or rarely post anyway :/
