invisible mode

So you can use invisible mode on the forum and your username wont appear at the bottom of the page in the online members bit and on the whos online page.
Your name still appears when you post though and if your in the sb we all know your here so why do you use it? What reasons?
 
They probably use it to post out of nowhere. Or maybe they don't want people to know they're on until they post and make it apparent.

well I wouldnt use it myself then.. its pointless anyways..
 
I actually remember using it once a while back. I just saw the feature and clicked on it just for the hell of it. I forgot a had it on for a while. :wacky:

All in all, it's rather pointless. The only thing it does is prevent people from easily clicking on your profile and that's only if they are really bothered to look at it. xD

Besides, the majority of the people I see using invisible mode are always active in the SB anyway so it is rather pointless it seems. :dave:

What he said. As I said in the SB, I feel as though everyone is looking at me/stalking me when I am not using it so that is why I always use it. Then again it is also because I am a paranoid individual so that doesn't help much either.
 
I just did it for the fun of it. I like being the unseen member at the bottom of the page :8F: There's no real serious reason. I go on and off it.

It is a real reason. I actually don't want someone I don't want to just randomly turn up and say, 'SO I HERD U LEIK *blank*?!?'

You do realize that if someone really wanted to look at your profile, they could still find it with just a few extra steps, right? xD

To stay on topic, invisible mode is good if you like to have that tiny amount more privacy. Maybe you just wanna skim the forums. You need to log in to see some parts, and for those that actively post in the SB and forums, that little bit more privacy could mean a lot to them.
 
I see no real reason for it anyway. I mean, we can still see you when you post and make SB shouts (the SB actually exposes you really well) and the staff can still see you. You may as well just log off and browse anonymously or something. :andry:

And besides, if you're that sensitive about your profile, you can always just not include certain bits of info. :wacky:
 
I used to use it a lot when there would be someone on the forum I'm trying to avoid, but still gave me a chance to lurk around. I never use the shoutbox anyway but I'd post occasionally and hope that whoever I was avoiding would be too stupid to know I was hiding and would simply think I had logged on and off without them knowing.

Anyways, I only use it to avoid scrutiny, or if I just don't want to be bothered. I assume others use it for the same reason so that they won't be called out in places like the SB until they feel ready to do so either by posting on the general forums or joining the chat in the shoutbox.

Personally, I feel an obligation to respect that privacy, so even though I can see invisible members, I don't call him/her out until they actually post. :monster:

If you go to your User CP, you should find an option for it. Simply activate it and you're all set. :ryan:

This pretty much sums it up. If you notice, for the most part, our more controversial and confrontational members use it. Also ones who may have gotten a slap on the wrist for doing something wrong on the site tend to "hide" as well. I know its a brash way to put it, but its sort of a cowards way out. It's like the ignore function. Simple self-control is easier than keeping track of who you added to a list, or at least in my opinion. :hmmm:
 
I use it for no real reason. :hmmm: Most of the time that I'm on I give a shout in the shoutbox, and I honestly couldn't care less about who can see me post and what not. :hmmm: I guess it kinda just stuck.

I't doesn't bother me that people can't see me on, and I don't think it should bother them either. :wacky:

That said, my reasons are... ...They're non-existant. Just for the hell of it. xD
 
This thread just reminded me, I had this mode on for like a month now. I was using it to experiment and just left it on. I don't feel like changing it, but...It's fun...idk ^_^

But I've never used it. I see no point. I never get harassed with PMs and I am not avoiding anyone. And can't mods see invisible members anyway?

I remember when Darkblade owned the site he would always use invisible mode.
 
I have been using it for quite some time now to be honest. Like Kira said I do it for the hell of it really. I know people can see me when I shout in the sb. Honestly I really do not care. I just find invisible mode cool. Ill get out of it eventually though. Plus I will not appear on the active users list for anyone but those Grapes and grapefruits :mokken:
 
What I don't get about invisible mode is that it is mostly very obvious who the mystery person at the bottom of the page is. Usually they post after a while, or sometimes they will start talking in the Shoutbox. I can't take invisible mode seriously, but I have got no issue with people who use it.

I think some people do use it to try and escape, but on the whole I think most people just use it because it is a feature which is there, and it marks them out as being slightly different from other people. These people are secretly on the side of ninjas, I believe.
