I just heard about this game earlier today (well techincally yesterday) and saw a trailer on PSN and watched it. It's apparantly going to come out on the PS3 early in 2010.

It's a detective / murder thriller made by Quantic Dream, the same guys behind Fahrenheit (known as Indigo Prophecy in the US and was on the PS2).

I'm not sure how many of you played Fahrenheit and how many of you enjoyed it.. It played a lot like a movie except you were in control of the outcomes, could move the characters etc.. But most things within what would be called cutscenes were controller by the player. The path of the detectives and murderer (you played both sides) were decided by the actions and the words you chose to say.

It gave you control over several different perspectives. Two cops and the murderer, and I think it might have included one other as well but I can't remember.

Fahrenheit was one of those games that I never owned but really interested me when I played it at a friends, and I loved the story of it. It was a real thriller.

This new game, Heavy Rain, seems to be done in similar style.. It also has the player controlling most of the game, and the cutscenes and what is said (though not all cutscenes are controlled, mainly just conversation at key points). The story seems to be thrilling as well but it is not clear yet from the trailers.

It also appears to have several characters that you control at different parts of the game, including a detecitve, an FBI agent, and a woman (not sure who this woman is).

Has anyone else heard of this game? If so, is anyone else excited about it?

Here is a trailer on youtube I just found (different to the one on PSN):

And a gameplay portion showing one of the scenes:

I've heard about it, well I've at least seen the trailers. I've never played Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, but I have heard good things about it. Plus, I meant to try it out, but never got around to it. I'm pretty excited about Heavy Rain. The story, which seems like a psychological thriller, is right up my alley.

EDIT: I saw this video on youtube, and it amused me.

Ha ha, that's awesome. :D

Oh yeah I've learned more about it since my original post.

You get to control about 4 characters apparantly and any of them can die and the story will continue, just without the characters that died and their story.

Apparantly there are no good and bad choices or choices that would ruin the game, only choices. So any choice you make will not produce a game over if it is bad but will affect the outcome of the story I am guessing. There's meant to be about 10 different outcomes in a lot of the scenes in the game.

Really looking good.

Thank you for posting this! I am really excited about this game.

The E3 trailer/demo was amazing. The graphics are lifelike, and the gameplay sounds really interesting. It's good to know the choices I make in a game will actually affect more than my next stat boost. (I was a fan of those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books when I was younger.) The idea of continuing in a game where characters can but don't necessarily die is intriguing.

I read about this game in a magazine. Looks interesting, but I don't know too much about it yet. Heard it's promising, though, so I think I'm going to look into it more. Thanks for posting these. Almost forgot about this game!

The game should be interesting, but i want to know is if i play as one character can i effect or interact with other main characters in the story. i.e. if i was to find a bit of evidence would hinder or have other effects on that mains character quest to find answers. Making the gamer constantly think about their action within the games, basically every actions has a consequence.

I can imagine that there will be an element of that within the game, yes.

In Fahrenheit I think they attempted at some points to have the game change depending on how well you covered your tracks (as the killer) or how good you were at investigating and picking up on the little details (as the cops). I don't think the story changed much either way on this, but still it shows that they had this sort of thing in mind. With todays technology, and also with what they said about there being multiple outcomes for each scene, I can imagine that there will be a sort of "every action has a consequence" feel to Heavy Rain.

I saw a video on youtube with a guy talking about the game as he was playing it. The character he was playing as was being attacked by some other guy who was trying to kill him. The guy playing the game was explaining how there are multiple ways to die in that fight scene alone, and a few slips of the button or being too late to press could see the character dead forever. I saw the whole fight scene, it really did last quite some time and looked fantastic. I can imagine you'd get a real "fight for your life" experience more than any other game I have played because of this.

As for character interaction and changes... They mentioned that the characters do meet on occassion throughout the game and even said that the death of a character will be felt with some of the characters, and some might even go to find out what happened. So I can imagine some of the choices the player makes as one character might effect the storylines of the other characters too in some cases.

amazing i didn't see the whole fight scene and i never played Fahrenheit so im totally new to this. But if i can effect the outcome of other main characters in the story then this is a truely an amazing game that i will be playing plus it is something other than your generic shooter. I shall be looking out for anymore news on this game, thanks Argor251 for the info.

Is this the video you were talking about?
I just keep getting more and more excited as I watch more and more of these videos. I should make sure I pick up Indigo Prophecy while I wait for this game.

Yeah that's the one.:D
A really good clip of gameplay and I can't wait to play that scene out myself. I've seen shorter clips of the same scene play out differently too.

Indigo Prophecy / Fahrenheit is worth it if you can find yourself a copy. It was one of the games I enjoyed the most on the PS2 and it is a style I haven't seen in any other game apart from Heavy Rain, and I love it.

Apparently it's going to be released in March, around the same time as God of War 3. I agree with what everyone else has said too, it looks a really good game, and completely different from any of the other games for any of the other consoles too, I can't off the top of my head name a psychological thriller, nor have I heard about a game with like this has got.

Wow. The game seems amazing. I've never played a game of this genre, so it does have that sort of novelty to me. Furthermore, the excellent graphics there really made the entire game seem like a movie, plus an interesting game play. I think I'd get this game if I had a PS3... Too bad I don't, damn.

Good, there's finally some sort of release date to look forward to. I think I'm the only person not getting God of War III, but isn't that around the time when FF13 is supposed to be coming out?

That fight sence was very good i still think that guy should have ended up in the acid bath. If the other sence are like the two sence we have sence the game should be good, plus changing the outcome of other story would be a bonus can't wait.

There's been some new information about this game I thought I'd post.

IGN got the chance to play the first 11 chapters of the game (there's about 60+ chapters in total) and say that we are to expect great things from this.

Here is the link to the article and some clips are also involved on that page (will contain mild spoilers):

Something I found particularly interesting:

one thing I noticed that was really cool was that the dialog would change to reflect the order of what you checked out. So, for example, if you find some footprints somewhere, he might mention that he doesn't know whose they are. Then if you find more of them at the body, he'll mention the other set that you'd already found. Or, if you find the set at the body first, when you find the second set he'll say that they're the killer's, rather than not knowing whose they are. It's a small touch but a really nice one.
Also good... We can replay chapters we have done, but if a character was dead at that point when we played it, then they will also be dead when we replay the chapter, meaning we can't just keep replaying the ending and hoping to unlock all the endings. It means we'd have to start over, or perhaps go back to an earlier chapter where the character is alive in order to play through an alternate path.

I dunno if I'd want to replay chapters at all though. I'd much rather play this as a movie. My first playthrough will be on gut instinct, and then my next ones I'll experiment about a bit, but I'd rather play the full way through each time. Still, it's nice the option is there if you wanted to change little things in certain chapters and play through the rest of the story in a new slot to see what happens.

The FBI agents ARI technology appears to be very interesting also.

It's set to be violent, have nudity, and be very dark in content (but not in a sell-out kind of way). It seems like it is going to be an epic crime thriller, and I'm genuinely looking forward to it more than most games.

EDIT: Oh! And release date. I could have sworn it was put on here by someone else, but here it is at the moment:
February 26, 2010.

I'm not sure if anyone's still interested in this, seeing as how the last post was quite a while ago. Although, I ran into this today and figured I'd share.

I love the Saw moment at the beginning. :8F:

That genuinely restored my interest in this game. Not too long to wait now!

I'm still very interested in the game. In fact this has just reminded me to go and pre-order it.

As for the trailer it looks really good still. I really can't wait to see how this turns out. The only bad thing about the trailer is that they essentially reveal that they're going to
hunt Ethan as a suspect
. I'd rather they hasn't revealed that in the trailer as that is likely a lot of the plot right there.

That looks awesome, my interest has been restored too. I haven't really been following for a while since a lot of the information released was them talking about what they could do rather than what they have done. Trailer is pure win. Role on February :ryan:

Great find, Ari! This is one PS3 exclusive that seems to be attracting a lot of attention for me. I am loving what David Cage said about it- "how far you're willing to go to save someone you love". It will be a rather dark and movie-like experience. The graphics are simply beautiful!

As to the plot, I know little about it, though the mysterious Origami Killer sounds like a chilling character. All in all, it looks like the PS3 will get an astounding, dark, mature thriller. Looking forward to it. :ryan:

Found an interesting bit of news today.

It has been revealed that Heavy Rain will weigh in at 4.2Gb when released later in the month.

However, while you’re waiting on the game disc to install the data, Quantic Dream provides you with something to occupy your time with.

While you sit there waiting on the required install, you can make Swan Origami in twelve steps. Surely this will take up most of your installation time, unless you are pro at creating it with a game controller already for some reason.

The game’s out on February 23 and 26, and reviews should start going up around February 10 when the embargo lifts.

Earlier today, a video from the game showing Madison Page taking a shower surfaced, and on Monday, the intro sequence was released along with more footage – only this time leaked.

Shew. Loads of Heavy Rain stuff already this week. Expect more to be revealed until the game hits shelves.

VG247

I would link to that new trailer, but it's NSFW. It showed a lot of reaction commands, which really interests me.
