So, I know people out there who buy a whole game system just to play one game. Would or have you ever done this?

Personally, I wouldn't spend the hundreds of dollars on a system for just one game. I'd go to a friend's house to play it or I would wait till the end of the system's run and them buy it at a much cheaper price if the game was just that good. And for all I know, while the game may appeal to many people, I might not like it. If I'm going to buy a system, there has to be at least five games that I want to play.

Oh boy, there's a long, boring story behind my answer, but yeah, I've done that. I begged my mom for a PS2 as a b-day gift to play FFX, and I bought a PS3 with my own money (after I finally got a job) for FFXIII really. Not to mention buying a DS and PSP for FFIII and FFVII: Crisis Core respectively.

I didn't really get into gaming until I was 13-14 really when my mom bought me a PS1. In the beginning when I only had a PS1, the only games I had were Spyro: Year of the Dragon, and then FF Anthology, FFVII, FFT, FFVIII and FFIX. That's it. So clearly FF had a large influence on me. All because my mom only bought me one game for each b-day and Christmas >.<

But yeah, in retrospect, that is pretty stupid to buy/beg for a system for one single game, but for the PS2, looking at my decent 40-50+ library of games now I discovered after getting a job, I guess I lucked out with it.

Same for the DS and PSP, especially when I got a chance to play remakes/ports of several old titles I never got a chance to try my hand at.

And with the PS3, I did make the effort to find some other games, and I have about 6-7 right now since I bought the system a couple of months ago. In all fairness, along with the pricey system, the games aren't exactly for pennies either. It's almost standard to pay atleast 60 bucks for a new game these days, so I can't imagine people having 20 something PS3 games unless they found some awesome deal somewhere - or the games are crap >_>

I wasn't going to ever get a PS3 until I joined this forum and started learning about FFXIII. Then I went out and got one in late February, along with Metal Gear Solid 4, which I still haven't beaten. Instead, I downloaded FF7 and spent a few months playing that, and now that the weather's nice I haven't used the PS3 for anything other than watching movies before bed.

Kinda funny how that all worked out.

Nope.

There's really no point (in my eyes) to buy a system for just for one game.

Well hmmm, idunno.

I got the PS3 'cause i knew the next upcoming Final Fantasy was going to be on it and I'm assuming KHIII will be too?

Of course, there was other games on the PS3 I wanted besides that so, it wasn't all just for one game.

I've never bought a new console for one game, and never will too. The only reason why anyone should ever buy a new console for one game is if the console and the game is being sold for cheap. I believe buying a new console for only one game is, in my opinion, stupid. What if the game you wanted turns out to be "The Worst Game Ever"? Or what will you do when you eventually get bored of it? Congratulations, you bought a new console for no reason at all. I would say if you're planning to buy a new console, at least look at other games before you do and see if you would be at least interested in playing it so even if your game. I would say at least 5 games should be the minimum to get your money's worth out of a console.

I've done that....twice.
First my ps2, because I played tekken 4 at my cousin's place so I wanted that game so bad. Luckily the FF commercial popped up some months later.

And I bought a ps3 for Devil may cry 4 because I was really obsessed with that 2 years ago. But I secretly had in the back of my mind that FFXIII would come out on the ps3 as well.

I got my XBox cause of Blue Dragon lol. Im glad I did as there are so many great RPGs out there for it. I need to get a PS3 before Persona 5 is released cause there is a rumor going round its for PS3 only, so gotta start saving!

Averted in my case, for the most part.

I bought my PS2 specifically so that I could play as many of the FF series on one console as possible. Worked out great since now I have roughly 15 non-FF games for both PS1 and PS2 playable on the 2.

Played straight with the Gamecube though. Bought it specifically for a Harvest Moon game, and now I've still only 5 games for it. HM, Resident Evil 3, Smash Bros, F-Zero, SW Rogue Leader. Planning on getting Zelda TP for it though.

Even far and away worse, Nintendo DS, for Pokemon. Admittedly, three games... But three games and I still cannot "Catch 'Em All" without finding another person to trade with.

Am not making that mistake with the next console though. I'm still massively debating between 360 and PS3. Despite so many games now being multi-platform these days, word of mouth has informed me that some of the best games on both systems are exclusives. Resistance, Crackdown, a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

I never did that. At times i was tempted to such as with the ps2, but that was averted when i won one.

Tbh, i got all my consoles for free. My PS1 was won from a stackers. My Ps2 was won from another stacker game. My first DS was a gift. My DSi was another gift. My first psp was a gift. I found my second psp. My xbox was a birthday gift. My 360 was for free (as well as games since my cousin works for them). Wii was also free, but i forgot why.

No I've never done it.

I did however ask my parents for a PSP back when it first came out before I even knew which games were going to come out on it. In hindsight this was kinda stupid because I didn't really use it for ages. But in the end it worked out once I started getting some decent games for it and I still use it fairly frequently for music.

I don't really see the point in getting a console just for one game especially since I don't replay games very often.

I got my ps1 for FF8
I got my ps2 for FFX , so yeah duh why else would I buy these expensive consoles ;p
I WILL get my ps3 for Battlefield Bad Company 2 , (it used to be MW2 xD)

I remember when I was 10 or 11 I begged my parents day and night to purchase a PS2 for FFX despite knowing absolutely nothing about RPGs. It must have been something very strange for me when I first played a game of such an alien genre. xD

That was the only occasion when I acquired a games console solely because of one game. FFXIII was one of the reasons why I got the PS3. However, I had quite a considerable sized library of games in my mind as well. There were about six or seven PS3 games I wanted to get before I actually bought it.

Nowadays, I wouldn't buy a console purely because of one game. If that game turns out to be below your expectations and if the console itself is a bit crap, then that's your money down the drain. I would now weigh up the options first.

I'll admit, I've done this a couple of times. First with my PSP, which I got for Tales of Eternia, and then with my Xbox 360, which I got for Star Ocean: The Last Hope. However, I doubt I would have bought either console if there weren't other games on them that interested me, as well. The games were my primary reason for buying the console, but not the only one...I don't see as there is anything wrong with that, though. I mean, if the console doesn't have games that you're interested in, you're not going to buying it...really, its only a waste of money if you buy that one game and barely play it.

...I've also gone one step worse than this and bought a PS3 just because I wanted one. XD

Well for me yes I just buy the system for a game I want.....Its pretty much because most of the people I know dont play vidio Games so its not like I can ask anyone I know if I can come over to play since none of them do.

I did this with two of the consoles I've bought.

I bought a PS2 for FFX and I did buy a PS3 for FFXIII but I waited a good year before doing so and got it the week FFXIII came out and had also learnt of some other decent games to play on my PS3.

It's a bonus that it has a blu ray player as well for your movies. So even if I don't play that many games on it I always watch movies. =)

I bought my PS3 for Final Fantasy XIII. I don't really think I did it on a whim, though, because I looked into buying it for quite some time. The only game I really wanted on it was Final Fantasy XIII and Mirror's Edge when I first found out about the console, but then I found a lot more games and I play on the PS3 all the time.

I'm also planning on buying a Nintendo DS for Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 days. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

not only did I buy my PSP purely for Dissidia, but I bought it purely for the train journey from uni back to my home. made the journey very pleasant.

I'm glad I did, after finding out about the Playstation Store and the PS1 games. plus all the gadgety stuff of the PSP.

I've never gotten a console just for a single game, it costs too much without getting the full value out of the system I think. I had to get my Playstation 3 with just a single game on release simply because it had a dreadful launch line-up other than Resistance and it didn't seem to recover for a good 4 or 5 months until Uncharted came out. However, were I to purchase a Playstation 3 now, I'd have a thorough research on several games to see which I would like rather than just one title. :dave:

I would never do that. If I had the money, I might do but I don't. There are one or two games on the PSP that I would like to play but it just isn't cost effective to do that!

I do think lots of people do it though. I mean, isn't that why they call games like GTA4 and GOW3 console sellers? People will be willing to buy consoles for massive games such as these.

You know, I might have to take back what I said. I might buy a console for a Zelda game. One of the reasons that I stayed in a parking lot all night to get a Wii was so that I could play Twilight Princess. But usually Nintendo has other games that I would play such as Mario or an SSB.
