A gamer accused of cheating in a net café game of CounterStrike narrowly escaped death after irate players skewered his head on a knife.

The incident began in a netcafe in China’s northern province of Jilin, when a group of youths apparently noticed a 17-year-old boy they had been playing CounterStrike with had been cheating by using a “wallhack” to allow himself to see through walls.

An argument began and a fight broke out outside the café. During the fight the cheater had a 30cm knife thrust into his left temple, with the blade only being stopped by the other side of his skull.

His assailants fled the scene after inflicting this injury, and he was quickly taken to hospital in an ambulance, still remaining conscious. Doctors decided to operate immediately.

Doctors explain the blade narrowly avoided major arteries, avoiding a devastating hemorrhage, and failed to impair his motor control despite passing through areas of the brain associated with such.

They were able to carefully extract the blade after opening his skull in an operation lasting some 10 hours, but noted that the knife was rusty – he has been placed under observation in case fragments of rust left inside his brain cause complications.

The net café in question was apparently popular with local youths as it did not require ID – government fear mongering about gaming culture has seen a variety of draconian restrictions placed on net cafés, so the café may be facing some unwelcome attention from the authorities.

Seriously guys, what the fuck? Sure, cheaters fucking suck, but stabbing them in the motherfucking head? :ffs:

It must suck not being able to counter a strike like that. However, it leaves me to wonder if he'll ever cheat again, and if he got the point. Sure, the poor guy was wallhacking, but it seems that his enemies were a cut above him. However, who the fuck has a knife at a net cafe? Seriously. These places are starting to sound like Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Some people just aren't cut out for fair play, and I guess some people just aren't sharp enough for common sense and a sense of self-control. :ffs:

Hopefully the assailants are caught, and I hope this hasn't go to their heads. People like that are irritating. -__-

Okay, enough with the bad puns. What are your thoughts about this?

OMGWTF!

I used to marathon CS but damn. Obviously the reaction of the attackers is abhorrent but their frustration wasn't all about losing, it was probably about him killing their fun by cheating.

Not that I'm in anyway condoning their reaction. Obviously somewhere along the lines they've become so desensitised to violence that one of them would thrust a sizable knife through another's head with the intention to kill him.

The solution's simple. There's always going to be cheaters in all walks of life. As unfair as it may seem, some learn to accept that it happens, others can't.

Find the perpetrator. Imprison him for carrying a weapon, use of a weapon and attempted murder and ban him from mature content across all media because he clearly can't handle it.

Death Penalty?
 
My first reaction was shock. My second reaction was to burst out laughing due to Tsukianei's pun-filled commentary. Now I'm trying to decide how seriously I should take this. XD

That guy was extremely lucky to survive that...I think. Maybe he cheated and put an invincibility code on himself before he started playing there? Still, that is an extremely over the top reaction...especially considering the guy might NOT have been wallhacking...a knife through the head for a misunderstanding, perhaps?
 
That is just ridiculous.

Why do people get so involved with games that it causes them to do such horrible things.

So he cheated. There is no reason to stab anyone, especially for a reason such as that.

The knife was rusty too! He's probably going to have a further complications because of this if they don't retrieve it all from his brain.

I really don't understand how people can justify stabbing someone for an issue as pathetic as this.

Sore losers are so sad. They would go that far just for some guy cheating at a game? Is the world so bad as to have people go that far for a game? This has shocked me very much. Some people need to just realise that games are just games and to take unjust losses the right way.

But in all serious, it was an utterly pathetic and cowardly attack. The guy cheated. So what? What possible justification can there be to escalate a row and drive a 30cm knife into his temple? The image there totally horrified me. It really shows how lucky that guy was to have had that knife nearly completely penetrating his skull - and live.

If it means government intervention in that cafe, then so be it, despite how vicious the Chinese authorities are when it comes to crackdown. Better that than have many more cheaters being undeservedly be impaled on the head with a knife.
 
Fucking hate Counterstrike, made 3 years of my life pure hell. Sad buggers who play it need to get a life, but I wouldnt wish this on them. Seriously, some people need help and just learn to damn chill out!
 
Jesus... no game is worth that kind of headache. I think that was a bit over reactive. I don't know... I never play online games with other people, but I know cheating can suck if you're trying to play with others online who aren't cheating but I don't think it was worth stabbing over. He's lucky to have survived that though.

I don't like cheaters however, there will always be "cheaters" not much you can do about that.

I think some people take video games way too seriously and the article clearly shows how little regard these people had for a man's life. "Amg, he cheated us in Counter Strike! Let's attack him with a knife!"

The guy is very lucky to have lived through it and I'm glad he did. It's just very sad that he's going to have a knife wound in his head for the rest of his life because of a damned game of Counter Strike. :ffs:

This is really a shame though. I know people have fought over ridiculous things throughout history but you'd think people would learn by now.
 
Take it from a sore loser, I do NOT want that on my worst enemy. That guy got lucky and perhaps will think twice before cheating again, but DAMN!!
 
I guess at the end of the day, cheaters will never get the edge not only in battle, but in life as well. They seriously need to cut it out.

However, the attackers need to get the point and realize that it's just a fucking game. It's not like their life is at the edge of a knife or anything. It isn't like it's offering them a cutting edge experience. Their lives aren't at stake or anything, so why strike a person with a knife just because he was cheating? Let the fact that he was cheating just go to show that he really doesn't have any skills at all. (Which is why he couldn't counter that strike anyway. :mokken:)

EDIT: Sorry for the one-liner--I guess I'll add that after reading this one and the one about the game-addicted couple who let their baby starve, I'm starting to think there may be some sort of mental disorder involved after all :hmmm: The question now is how to cure it so this stuff doesn't happen anymore.

NOTE: While I may be making light of this subject and lighting things up with puns. In all seriousness, it's a very serious matter. There truly is something wrong with the children today, with their violence and their hippity-hop music. However, my inability to take things seriously makes it somewhat difficult to care.

Besides, it takes a lot to puncture through my train of thought. :wacky:

Also I believe cheaters need retribution but damn, not a knife to the head that's just cold. I would have to say though.. the person that did it must have been a nut job. This is what happens when people are too into video games though, unfortunately. Although in China I do believe games are considered more culturally involved these days, like star craft and such.
