When we were little we all wanted to be certain things...Firefighters, Policemen, Doctors, Nurses, Strippers (o_O), what did you want to be as a kid? Are you what you wanted to be or has that completely changed now?
 
I wanted to be a comic book artist. I loved comic books and I loved to draw since I was a kid. I am definitely not one now. The education is too expensive for me and to be honest, I have no interest in college at all. Though my thought from comic books is still there but the gear has shifted a bit. I want to be a comic book writer now instead. Of course, still without the education for it, I keep thinking that I might get lucky if I just write out as many comic book stories as I can and someone will pick up on it.

Obviously no the best way to go, but who knows? Maybe some day...
 
Primarily, I wanted to be the Green Power Ranger. I also wanted to be a paeleontologist for much of my childhood - I had a thing for dinosaurs when I was younger - and I also wanted to be an architect during a brief period of insanity when I was about twelve.

Am I what I wanted to be? Well, when I finally unearth the ancient Dragonzord through one of my many fossil excavations and wreak terror across the land, I'll be sure to get back to you all...

In the meantime, I'm pursuing a career in Accounting. All of my career choices have but one thing in common: they're synonymous with the word "dull"...
 
I wanted to be a pop star.

Seriously.

A pop star.

A male Madonna, that is what I wanted to be, dancing around half nude and pushing boundaries. Then I wanted to be a writer and that hasn't really changed. The common thing in all I've ever wanted to do is that it requires creativity and involves touching people, but only sometimes in a sexual way.

For some reason i also wanted ot be a ventriloquist, but that was a fleeting idea. Stunt man always seemed like it would be awesome, and i was always in scrapes and doing stupid things, still think it'd be pretty cool though

Since as long as I can remember I always wanted to be an astronomer.

I've always loved anything having to do with stars and outer space. But as I got older I wanted to be a writer too, mainly a journalist. I used to even make my own newspapers and include headings of the day. But then I realized how dirty journalism is so I mainly stuck to astronomy but as I got farther in math I realized I wouldn't get far in astronomy if I sucked at math so I have no dreams now.

I'd still shoot for the stars if I was better at math. :/
 
When I was little I wanted to be a hero.

I really did have an image of me saving tied up damsels in distress from rail-tracks, and punching men with curly moustaches, tying them up on the back of my horse and taking them to the authorities.

I also imagined myself saving people from cliffs and from lions and stuff. I still do, actually, though as a personal fantasy.

When I got a little bit older this shifted to becoming an archaeologist, though the kind of archaeologist like Indiana Jones, which does not really exist. I imagined myself doing pretty much the same stuff as the hero, only this time I'd be saving historical artefacts at the same time, and I'd have a fantastic hat.

Now I'm currently volunteering at an archaeological dig, and it is very good. I'm not entirely sure if archaeology is what I want to be going into in the future though, as it is difficult to get work in that field (then again, it is difficult to get any at the moment). The degree I have is in general Ancient History and wasn't focused on archaeology, and I've just got an offer to do a Masters next year and that'll not quite be archaeology focused either, though I'll see what modules I can choose. I tried to keep myself more open by not doing a straight archaeology course. While it has been a bit of a fantasy, I've never actually thought that I'd ever get to do any real archaeology.

Now I just need to volunteer somewhere as a hero and I can tick that one off the list too. :woot:
 
At first I wanted to be a fireman.
Then I wanted to Prime Minister.
After I turned 11 or so I just wanted to be rich. I am very very lazy, I don't think I'd get much if any satisfaction from working. I have no idea what I want to be at the moment. I think I'll avoid getting a job for as long as possible.
 
When I was really young I had it in my mind that I would become a Formula One driver, because I watched it all the time and was obsessed with it. Eventually I came to the realisation that nearly everyone in that sport had been trained specifically from a really young age towards that, and as such it was almost impossible for me to ever achieve that. From that point onwards, I've become far too lazy to have an aspiration, and have no idea what I'll do once I'm finished with uni.
 
I definitely remember chatting to my mother once about the possibility of being a teacher one day. She frowned and asked me why, stating that she never had the impression that I liked being in school that much. All I could say in response was that I liked the idea of being the smart grown-up teaching things to not-as-smart children and that teachers get long holidays off. :wacky:

Now? Well, I suppose this ambition isn't a million miles away. It just depends on what I'm teaching and who I'm teaching to. Would I want to face a troublesome group of 13-14 year olds who could make your teaching life hell depending on where you are? And since that discussion with my mother, I realised that teachers do have hundreds of things to mark as well, so that would be...fun.

At the same time I had ambitions to work for NASA. When I was about 9-10 I was going through this phase where I was really into basic astronomy and learning about space. I would be attempting to read the more advanced articles about the stars, black holes, supernovae, even antimatter. The bit that I was most into was the idea of extrasolar planets - planets outside the solar system. I wanted to find my own planet and name it after myself, so hence my fascination in NASA. Of course, actually getting to NASA feels very unlikely now, particularly as I would need to be good in maths, physics - oh, and being American would probably be a helpful start as well.
 
I wanted to be an archaeologist for ages, because I had some kind of dinosaur obsession. Then I wanted to be a vet like most little girls, then I wanted to become a video game designer or an artist but you have to be an asian to design video games and you have to be dead to make any kind of money from art :(

none of my childhood dreams came true
 
Well I had quite a few dreams as a kid of what I wanted to do when I grew up, all of which were crushed when I came to a staggering realisation about each one.

First of all I wanted to be an assassin, I practiced doing kicks and flips in my garden, and had a blunt butter knife my mam gave me that I practised slashes with. I wanted to be an assassin for about two years until I realised that meant I would have to kill people and that seemed a bit horrible. I was around seven at the time

Then for a few months I was convinced I would become a spy, then I realised the constant terror of exposure and what would happen if the bad guys I infiltrated found me out and that seemed very scary. I was 8 I think when that occurred to me

Then from about 11 till 14 I seriously wanted to be a vet because I really liked animals(I still do I guess) but I realised then that I wouldn't have the heart to be able to perform surgery on them

From about 15 till 18 I really wanted to become a teacher, mainly because I liked the idea of teaching, 3 month paid holidays, and serious banter with students. I decided though that I didn't want that to be all I did with my life

So the current plan is to get a first class honours in college next year and automatically be offered a H.Dip which would allow me to teach second level and are really hard to get. Then after that I want to get two PHDs one in biology and one in CS, then on to a Nobel Prize, shouldn't be too difficult
 
I wanted to be in the army. Mostly because my big brothers were, and I just thought that I could be heroic and cool. All my friends were old fashioned (I went to a sorta snotty private school) and said that women shouldn't be in the army, and so I just gave it up. Haha, that's pretty depressing right there! But anyway ya, and then I later wanted to be a bartender. (?)
Well now that I actually have a brain and know what my skills are, I am probably going to go into Languages and be an Interpreter.
My how people change...
 
When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut.. Flying in space, seeing stars, planets, the moon...

Obviously I'm not that now..unless FFF is space... :hmmm:

Anyways, I am happy where I am now, a manager at a grocery store. Its nice simple and a lot of people to meet. Its a great place to meet lots of people, Even on bad days I tend to be able to smile with the co-workers I have. It is really fun and amazing.
 
I wanted to be an artist, then later I wanted to dig up dinosaur bones. That was when I went through my dinosaur phase XD Then I wanted to work at a circus and work with training the tigers and lions.
 
When I was in elementary school, it was around the time when Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman were all playing for the Chicago Bulls. I used to want to become a professional basketball player, but there were a few things keeping me from reaching that goal. For one, I was overweight and not very athletic. The summer after fourth grade, I joined a summer YMCA basketball team. I sucked.

After that, I wanted to be a cartoonist. I liked drawing and I was better than other kids my age, but in all honestly, I wasn't that amazing or anything. However, if I took art more seriously and practiced, I could have been really good. All I really drew were anime characters and stuff. Freshman year of high school, I took an art class, and there was this guy who was amazing. It sort of discouraged me.

Freshman year of college, I majored in Computer Science because I wanted to become a video game designer. Now, I'm a Linguistics major and I want to translate, become an English teacher in other countries.

On a serious note, I wanted to be a game tester (They had adverts for game reviewers/testers in PS mags back in the day).

I also wanted to be Photographer.

Once i hit 18yo i started thinking bout being a Computer Techie

Now i'm thinking of being an english teacher and heading to Japan, cos it's easy, and i get to be in the one place i wanna be most! :monster:
 
When I was little I remember I wanted to be a marine biologist...working with the dolphins/penguins and etc....at the Shed Aquarium in Chicago. I had such a love for animals when I was little. I was always fascinated by them and I swore that the best career for me was one that involved taking care of them and healing them.

Well, I never did go that route :awesome: I've changed my mind many times about what career is appropriate for me and after I got my first degree I started on my second so....thankfully we have the ability to change our minds. I haven't heard of many people who had dreams of doing one thing when they were children and ended up getting a degree in it when they go to college. People grow/change and so our aspirations tend to as well.
 
Five: A musketeer. I had a dream I fight ten men in a pub. Imagine a little girl with a funky hat with a weird feather poking out kicking butt with a sword with a ball at the tip. Best dream ever.
Six: Paleontologist. Jurassic Park did a number on me.
Seven: A zookeeper. I went to the zoo.
Eight: A vet. Animal Precinct maimed this dream.
Nine: An artist.
Ten: An artist.
Eleven: A ninja.
Twelve: A concert pianist with a sword hidden in the cast iron.
Thirteen: A stoner.
Fourteen: President.
Fifteen: A stoner.
Sixteen: A filmmaker.
Seventeen: A writer.
Eighteen: A doctor.
And so on and so forth.

My aspirations change every month. It's hard for me to take me seriously. I at least did attempt to do each except for being a ninja and laughably, even a stoner. :awesome:
