Be honest, have you ever trolled someone on the internet before? ;) Not that it says anything about you now.

I guess you could consider the whole Tana drama me trolling. XD It was during a time when the forum was going through a ton of drama. Tana was being Tana so a few other people and I did everything we could to get a rise out of her. Somehow, I was the only person not punished for it...

(BTW she is one of those, "Anyone who does not share the same opinion as me about a video game character is stupid and doesn't deserve to live!) And her unbanning from this forum was to create more drama.

So not my proudest days...

There were times when I was an immature 14 or 15 year old and I've trolled people over stupid things. It was stupid stuff like going to a forum and saying that a certain popular movie at the time sucked and then laugh when people start to defend it. I haven't done that in a very long time.

My "trolling" doesn't go beyond friend to friend banter and severely make fun of the things they like or spam their pages in the most immature and annoying way possible. I've never been an ill willed fellah, so I don't harass people over personal matters/beliefs etc. And I don't indulge trolls in giving the attention they oh so crave (not all the time). I like to keep it fun, but not so hurtful

Ohhh... Where to begin. :hmmm: I've got many'a drama notches on my belt, but I would have to say that the last time was over a FFVII PC Mod. It was two years or so ago on another FFVII forum (before I left) and a guy had come around looking for opinions on how to improve his VII PC Mod, which included retranslations, graphics update, inclusions of 'left out' things, the whole shebang.

However I use the world opinion loosely as he simply came in, paraded about what he was doing, and then except a whole fawning over it like it was the greatest thing on the planet. Which, it was a neat idea, I'll admit, however he was taking modifications to the extreme. Retranslations became literal translations ("There's no gettin offa this train we'r on" --> "We can't get off of this fast moving train"), and he was removing and replacing Cait Sith as a character because he said it was illogical and highly improbable to have a robot cat in the party.

Needless to say as a fanatic over VII above all others, I spearheaded the trolling, which at first started off as trying to get him to see reason that what he was doing to the game was highly unprecedented, and could infact, improve the PC version if he was open to our opinions.

Needless to say he wasn't, he didn't, and the trolling went forumwide, even to his own forum where the Mods were discussed at length, and in the end, everyone ended up seeing our side as he was acting like a close minded child.

I can't say I've done much trollin' in my time on the internet. Oh how I wish that I had an awesome trollolol story to tell, but I don't. I'm lame, I know.

Overall, I actually tend to somehow avoid drama altogether.

...Oh wait, I remember a time when I trolled the hell outta someone (there was a group of us actually). It was when I was in an FPS clan years back. A group of us thought the one guy in the clan was a hacker (not all the time, but often enough). So we trolled him to no end. Needless to say, me and my friend left them and joined a different clan, haha (ironically both clans had historical ties to one another). However, that was after we found out that the leaders used hacks at times as well. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, and me and my friend didn't want to associate with hackers.

I don't think I really ever have, tbh :hmmm: Unless flinging puns left and right in a thread counts, because I do enjoy doing that from time to time :wacky: I have sat under a bridge IRL though :hmmm:

Maybe my thoughts on this topic are just because I'm old school or something. I just see that it's communication with another person or people with the difference being that instead of being in person, its behind a monitor. But still, just because you're not talking to a person in the flesh, I don't feel a need to change how I am for the sake of lulz. I wouldn't throw down disses in person to someone, why should being behind a monitor be any different from that?

With that said, I've never made an attempt to troll another online. Sure, battles and heated debates may come up, but I've never made an effort to go out of my way just to piss someone off for my own entertainment. That sort of thing isn't really humorous to me. Maybe I'm just too much of a people-pleaser, I don't know.

Hmmm I am sometimes the opposite. I am a people pleaser IRL but like to push buttons of people online xD... I like to tease, but trolling...I dont know the word troll for internet wise and I know its negative. I dont troll. I only let people know their places. I cant stand unjustice so I will let ya know if I think you are wrong..If I dont like someone on the internet or irl I wont waste my breath and energy any longer on that person..

I can be wrong as well at many times, but I am too stubborn for that to reach my braincells :lew:

I don't troll on purpose for the most part but my real opinions seem to either really piss people off or either out of nowhere people agree with me and I get confused about how the entire universe works.

Joystiq(and many other main stream review and news sites) seems to really not like RPGs at all these days. So every time they review one its insulting to RPG gamers it seems, least that's how I see it. So I usually like to say something like how about having a reviewer who likes RPGs review these game though this is happening alot more on gaming sites these days. That's about my highest level of trolling.

Does pretending to be a girl on Yahoo! Pool so you can fuck with guys and attempt to gross them out with incredibly graphic descriptions of disgusting sexual acts count as trolling?

Yeah, I guess I am kind of a troll. I like to mess with fanboys. I like to go on rants about how Final Fantasy VII "sucks" whenever I see a member with Sephiroth in their usernames. I don't mean anything harsh by it. And I'm not intentionally trying to offend them. It's just kind of my way. I've got a buddy who's a Christian (or claims to be) and I make religious jokes the are far over the level of blasphemy all the time, just because I know he's in the room. But if anyone gets offended and atleast has the decency to tell me that what I'm saying is bothering them, then I make attempts at apologizing. If they don't except my apologies then oh well. I tried.

i troll all the time

sometimes i get bored, watching other people get mad is amusing.

my favorite people to troll are the people who don't know what the definition of trolling is, and pretty much just think its anyone who says something they dont want to read and keeps reiterating their point even after they are crying troll at them

i just like watching stupid people do stupid. that doesnt make me a bad person

I don't think I ever have.

I hated doing that sort of thing. I was usually the one who got trolled if anything when I was a kid, which made me stop using the internet to save the drama.

I have more time consuming things that are of my higher priority here at home to do then sit on a computer trolling someone I barely know. XD

:hmmm: People give trolling weird contexts some times. I personally have my moods, if I'm letting off steam, in a community I hardly know (WoW) for instance I give people a hard time in debates. Meaning if people speak a complete line of crap, and it has no intelligence or thought behind it, or say a troll enters the thread, I try to reverse it on them. Some people have superiority complexes in different places where they make people feel cornered and believe their word is the end all be all to a situation. I just like to politely say.. NO. Ignorant people get under my skin sometimes, due to their ability to not adapt with change. No matter how wrong they are, their sheer denial puts their peers at a loss for words. No one can defend them and they just leave themselves up to their own self destruction over time. Some times I just feed the fire, by doing subtle things like oh... bringing up that they were wrong. Though to be honest, I don't think any of this is trolling, due to I don't follow them around, I just don't like knowing someone thinks they are always right and refusing to see both sides of the equation. Though I never, ever have cornered someone and personally pissed them off/ offended them. Though I'll debate them till they are blue in the face if I know at least a little about the subject. A good debate should never be silenced either. I love when people can in fact prove me wrong, because at least I can respect them for it.

Here (FFF) it is much different as no one really trolls here in my eyes as bad as other places. So I see no need, and personally I've been around for 5 or so years here and grown fond of this community. If someone says something stupid and puts their foot in their own mouth, I'm sure we'll have a few folks giving them stuff for it. If it gets out of hand, then of course we can't let it persist but sometimes people need to realize you have to laugh it off. It makes you grow to not be hindered by such small trivial things that especially occurs online. My motto is if you can't handle it online, then how the heck did you make it so far in life already? You have the ability to be completely anonymous online, you have the ability to act a different sex, age, religion, or anything else just to fit in or not fit in. Internet is in fact the most dangerous thing ever created, but the most Free thing ever created (unless you live in Egypt..oops). Now this might change one day.. so I would say live it up while you can. If I'm ever giving you crap, it's because I've seen a one sided view you displayed, and it only encourages me to try to open your mind up a little more.

well here, theres not really trolling

the definition of the term is to antagonize a/group of user/s and start a conflict. It's really just somewhat of taking the piss, I don't think anyone here really trolls at all.

I mean like, sometimes I go off on a tangent about how I think FFXIII is probably the worst game to ever be released of all time, for it's time... But I am not trying to start a conflict or offend other users, I just think the game really sucks and I get pissed when I think about the other things I could have bought for 60 USD instead.

I'd definitely agree sometimes I post it in the wrong kind of threads, but it just escapes me sometimes.

but yes, trolling the wow forums is a great pastime. its just so hard to resist when people set themselves up for it, calling anyone a troll that doesnt like their idea or what they are trying to share with the community. its like they are begging to get trolled when they get all angry about it

Disagreeing with someone, even being an ass about it isn't really trolling if you are making good points. Trolls typically don't make a point. They just come to rile a bunch of people up.

I'll give an example.

One of my friends on face book was constantly making political statements. There would be 5-7 posts a day in the news feed about his political statements, mostly anti war. One day one of his friends commented and said "lol they should just nuke the middle east and kill them all" It was written more in chat speak but you get the idea. The statement was offensive, but the response was kind of funny. The originally guy basically blew up and wrote a huge rant back at the guy about how awful he was how stupid he was it went on and on. Other people commented giving the guy a moral lesson, trying to reason with him, told him why he was wrong. It was all quite funny because the guy who was trolling was probably behind his keyboard laughing.

FF7 fans are easy targets.

It's easy to troll fans of Sephiroth, Cloud, Vincent, Zack, Tifa, and Aerith in that order. Go to an FF7 forum and type "Sephiroth sucks, he looks gay and emo." And you have people crying at your throat trying to prove you wrong.

Ehh I want to troll people, but I'm not clever enough to be a troll. I'll sometimes be my alter ego and act all annoying and shizz, but it's never serious trolling. Just playing around really. I'm king of the world, so I have to troll sometimes, even if I fail miserably :)

I only troll people when I feel like being an asshole... Not that often... Except for that one time... But I don't feel like sharing... You can pay me some gil if you want to hear the story

EDIT: OK Ok... I think trolling is mean. If I DO do it, I don't mean to... (idk if THAT is considered trolling or accidental asshole, but I do my best to try and be kind to people...)

EDIT EDIT: Wow my beginning post is ass-holish after reading it again... It's completely untrue too...

Trolling is sad. If thats how you get your kicks in life you need to realise you dont have one and need to get a life and do something worthwhile with it.

I see all the little keyboard warriors on YouTube and on this site and some of them are right nice folk too when you chat with them one to one but theyre little snakes in the grass. Get a couple of them together and theyre trolling of people is just bullying. Plain and simple. Its pathetic to watch and its pathetic to read. I cant stand bullies and especially the little sheep that like to join in with leader. I dunno if your making up for a lack of strength in real life and playing the big man on the internet makes you feel empowered but all it does is make you look like a knob. Especially when you target people who are no good at standing up for themselves.
Ive had quite a few people on here who talk to me and theyre real nice too but i know theyre snakes in the grass. And ive had little msgs sent to me by other people saying did you know such and such said this about you :ohoho:
Like i said, snakes in the grass who need to wise up and grow up.

'Trolling' the actual, try and make you feel bad / It's not actually a joke? Is absolutely pathetic. To all those saying they like trolling once in a while, grow up. Bullying is the worst you can do to children or even adults when it comes to messing with someone mentally, it leaves scars on people. It might not be scars you can see in real life, but they're definitely there mentally.

I think it's beyond pathetic people get a kick out of trolling others, "Oh, it was just a joke!" a joke my ass, you're upsetting people with it to make your sad self feel better. When you grow up and hopefully for those who troll grow a brain, you might be lucky enough to understand what the hell you're doing to someone. If not, well, I feel sorry for you. Sickening really.

Anything you do to make people intentionally feel that way as a result is sad. Grow up. Seriously.

And if that didn't clear it up. I'm against bullying, trolling or any of that immature bullshit. Lol, trolling to pass the time, seriously. Feel sorry for those who are like that, honestly do.

I originally thought we were talking about the 'mess with you' trolling and not the actual 'I'm going to make you feel lesser than dirt' trolling... Which is why I edited my post a bunch of times... I only read some of the comments and after seeing your's and Lewis' I feel like crap because it makes me SOUND like a troll... I'm really not. I don't go out of my way to intentionally make people feel bad.

Yeah, I agree with Hayley (Hayley! You're online!) My trolling isn't really trying to be mean, I'm just playing around really. I'm not trying to hurt anybody on purpose. I've been bullied before, physically and mentally, and I would never put anybody through that.

To me trolling is like when I was in the shoutbox the other day, and I was calling it the JeriBox. It's just me being silly. Or me calling my self the king of the world. Its just me goofing around. If anything I troll myself.

Maybe I don't know what a real troll is. I never try to hurt anybody. I never even target anybody, besides myself.
