Who do you think is the summoner?

Final Fantasy IV - Rydia

Final Fantasy IX - Eiko

Final Fanatsy IX - Garnet

Final Fantasy X - Yuna

WARNING!

Do not base the best summoner according to the game's popularity. You will choose them according to their individual abilities.

ENJOY! :)

Well, ability-wise, I'm not too sure who would be the best summoner on that list. It's a bit of a hard criterion to base my choice on. By ability-wise, does this mean how powerful their summons are, how much damage they may inflict cross-game, how useful they are? Since I can't answer that too well, I'll choose Yuna for the time being based on her game's contextual nature of summoners. It takes incredible sacrifice and bravery to pursue the path of a summoner in Spira during the time of FFX and as seen in temples such as Besaid and Kilika, it can become very physically taxing for a summoner or a summoner-in-training. Yuna therefore certainly does strike me as being one of the series' most proficient summoners as far as I know of. I suppose I could make a point about the controllable Aeons in FFX. I think they are capable of a lot more damage than their uncontrollable counterparts in the earlier FF games.

Well that's incredibly hard to judge on considering each summoner is on a different game and battle system. For instance when Rydia,Eiko or Garnet summons, the attacks the esper/eidolon peforms are just one powerful attack. As for Yuna, she just summons and takes a step back letting the Aeon take control of the battle.

But based on character and damage inflicted by summons, I'd have to say Yuna closely followed by Garnet. Both have similar qualities in terms of magic,Yuna is probably better as in X you are able to peform any move instead of being restriced to white magic in Garnet's case. And also once Yuna learns black magic,Lulu virtually becomes useless for the rest of the game.

Yuna gets my vote. I really did like the system in FFX, being able to control the aeons and having the whole story based around getting the summons to destroy sin. Other games do include the summons but have them as a side note instead of fully including them. I mean Garnet always had her summons but was just to scared to use them. Yuna ( as mentioned above) was a summoner in training and we could follow her from day one as she stumbles out the first fayth in besaid.

I loved Anima! :)

Yuna. Why? Well lets see...
Part of it is because I just love all the aeons she summons. Also, I love her personality. Does that count toward her being the best summoner? No, but she is just my favorite. :)

Tch Yuna sucks imo

The only reason Rydia,Garnet, and Eiko dont have that is because they never thought of it or couldn't do it.

Tbh I vote for Rydia cause she could not only summon but talk with the Summon's,Garnet cant and Yuna Cant Eiko can but meh Rydia's a better summoner in my book

so I vote Rydia!

Yuna is just not as cool and is kind of boring..

Garnet is plain and cant even talk to the summons

Eiko Can Talk to Summon's but gets the crap of the litter ((Aside from Mog! ))

-waits for people to rage on my bashing of yuna XD-

Yuna was ok as a heroine just not as a summoner sorry =p

Garnet and Eiko don't get votes for the reason that there summons got split up so you had to use them both to use all summons in the game.

So that will leave Rydia and Yuna...

I will have to go with Rydia, I found her summons more... well Final fantasy like...

In X you control the summons, not just release them and have them do one move...

So I see how Yuna would be the better summoner, but I am still loyal to the "traditional" way of summoning which is why Rydia gets my vote

I agree with Lelouch. Yuna is overrated. :ryan: It's a draw between Garnet and Rydia. Garnet has powerful summons at her following, like Odin, Atomos, and Bahamut. All of them destoryed many villages and many people, within one easy breath. Garnet is a extremely powerful summoner. Though Rydia is apart of the summoner culture and is even related to the summoner creatures and even lives in their village, or kingdom. Rydia knows the summoners, like people know their friends, and the other callers within the Final Fantasy series don't have that special relationship with her summons like Rydia does. ^_^

I'd probably say Rydia surpasses the other three in summoning ability, followed by Yuna. The reasoning for this is that Rydia spent 'years' in the Feymarch honing her skills under the watch of Leviathan, so she arguably has a more intimate understanding of the summons than any of the others, particularly when compared to Garnet, who seems to be very much still in the learning process. Yuna comes second, in my opinion, due to how it is suggested that summoners in FFX have a very strong sense of sacrifice and duty towards their profession, which isn't really matched in the other games. In terms of being the best summoner, Yuna's level of dedication isn't equalled by either of the FFIX summoners, nor do they seem to have (at least initially) the same amount of control or ability. Whilst Garnet and Eiko most certainly have the potential to be incredibly proficient summoners, for the most part I don't feel they have enough experience to take advantage of this. Garnet, for example, is restrained for much of the game by her fear of summons, whilst Eiko is restricted by age. Despite initial guidance form her grandfather, who died when she was around 4 years old, it is heavily suggested from the Eidolon Wall that summoner in that society are not deemed to come of age until 16 (Garnet's age), in which case Eiko's abilities can be seen as premature. Eiko also isn't able to summon any super strong summons until Alexander (which can be seen as representative of Eiko's and Garnet's potential) and after that Madeen, but even then Madeen is significantly less powerful in both FFVI and FFIX than many other summons.

Rydia! I thought it was amazing when she rejoined the party as grown woman. It is a really interesting plot point, that is really original, and added so much to her character, and the dynamic of the group. I liked the way she's involved so early on in the game, and is so important to Cecil's development as a character too.

I guess I just have issues with the other girls in the poll. Eiko is annoying, Garnet is uninteresting, and Yuna is painfully naive. Yuna would be my second choice, because of how useful she is in battle, especially when you give her magic spheres and give her a few black magic spells early on. She makes Lulu essentially useless if you give her the -agas and Ultima/Flare.

Nice to see so many people voting Rydia.

Ughhh it was hard to pick between Garnet and Yuna!! I ended up with Garnet just because I have used her a lot more than I did Yuna in regards to summoning. They both had many of the same summons and overall were quite similar.

Braska should totally be in there but whatevs

For me it's far and away Yuna, not only did she have the most interesting storyline and character development, in the optional boss battles she was indispensable. You had to have her on standby to summon an aeon to take some of the hits from the Dark Aeons, Omega Mark, and Penance. Though the love story is why I like her most I guess

Garnet for me cause I like her whole story of how she starts as a helpless princess to a more stronger character in the end.

Definitely Rydia because she is unique in that she can cast Black Magic as well as summon and she has been to the land of the espers (Feymarch) And she doesn't seem to care that much she just chills when she's there.

YUNA ! BY FAR! HANDS DOWN!!
Yuna is way overrated just like Tifa, and...?

I was honestly torn between all four. Rydia is just amazing and powerful. I love her black magic abilities and the summons. She had a great story and was an amazing asset to the party. Garnet has a great story and her connection to the summons was touching, like Rydia's. I have a soft spot for Eiko, and I found her more useful than Garnet.

But my choice is Yuna. I like her the most and she's my favorite female character in the series, so I'm biased. lol. But I do love her summons and the ability to control them. Plus, like Rydia, once you can teach her black magic she becomes my most powerful character.

Did anybody forget that yuna can also talk to her summons? They have a spiritual connection and in the end of the game that connection is very clear(without giving up spoilers I cant say more). Rydia could talk to summons and such but I dont feel she was still at the peek of her potential(SHE KILLED ME AT ZEROMUS I HAD SWAP HER FOR THAT PIECE OF SNOT EDGE!(I did a low level run so the counter to bahamut was unbearable)). Besides the summon who gives more damage even without the celestial weapons that make aeons naturally break damage limit comes with that ability originally.. My god that bahamut is badass (ffx one).
Regarding FF9.. Oh well I am really sorry I wanted to vote for Garnet but I dont feel she has learned a lot about summoning. She still needs a long but maybe she has the Highest potential for summoning. That said I voted for Yuna.

Rydia - she's a powerhouse in her own game universe. She's been a summoner since she was a child, experienced combat since she was a child (Thanks Cecil and Kain!), grew up in the Feymarch with the summon spirits, etc. She's amazing!

I went for Garnet in the end, but Yuna could have gotten my vote too. What swayed it for me was how you start off with all those summons, but they can't be used. It's a small thing, but it's all I could think of to decide my vote between them in the end. Garnet's character is better, in both design terms and personality imo. Also, the summons themselves are better in FF9, with more of them being classics (although I did like the additions of Yojimbo, Anima, Ixion and Magus Sisters in 10).

I also like Rydia, since she can use white and black magic too...but she doesn't quite live up to Garnet and Yuna for me. Oh god, this is a terrible post lmao. Well...tough *clicks post*

Yuna because she's the most devoted to summoning. She knew what she was getting involved in when she decided to become a summoner. She also had to talk to the spirits of the summons and get approval to even be able to use the summons. Acquiring the summons was very taxing on summoners in that game and they pay the ultimate price by being able to summon them.

She's able to communicate with the summons (as seen by her summoning them). She gets access to a wide variety of summons both good and evil, while also being able to use white / black magic at will (assuming you have access to the spells), and is able to send the spirits of the departed to the far planes so they are able to rest in peace.

That's a pretty powerful summoner if you ask me :).
