Corinith
A few notes before things begin. Be aware that this RP could be rated “M”. This means that you can expect violence, scenes of torture, bloody messes, and acts of the darkest kind. However, don’t get this confused with rated “X”. There will be no nudity or sex of any kind. Try to keep as clean as possible. You can write someone getting their brains blown against a wall, but don’t write up a five page post of gratuitous sex.
I also put this note in so you can be warned that I want posts… good posts… damned good posts. This means I want correct grammar (I’m not going to jump on your ass about a typo, don’t worry about that), and I want each post to be at least two paragraphs each. I’m not going to tolerate “Bob woke up in a sweat and turned on his computer terminal”. No, there will be none of that.
As far as rules go, the basic ones apply. No godmodding, no matter how light, no metagaming, and of course, no powerplaying. Any instance of this and you get one warning. After said warning if you so much as step a toe out of line, I will be writing your character off. This is a Sci-Fi RP, and I want it to remain that way. There will be hints of Fantasy, and I will definitely allow cyberpunk, but it will be mostly Sci-Fi. This means that your character doesn’t have magical powers. However, in order to not have everyone running around with blaster rifles, this RP will feature something… different.
This being said, scroll down to read the plot outline, the “augmentation” system guidelines, the Races/Species guidelines, factions, grav lift, etc. As I said in the interest check thread, this is going to be a RP that is somewhat larger than others. There will be many things going on at once. In all reality, a part of me expects this to fail… but I really want to see how far we can get this going. I hope everything goes well, but I’m pessimistic by nature. Just keep in mind that if things do end up finishing, I already have a sequel in mind that will make quite a few of you rather happy…
However, let me make a couple of things clear. There will be no mindreading in this RP. There will be no psychic characters or anything of the nature. I’ve learned over the years of me RPing, that characters that can read minds and psychics are a bad idea. And as I said in the Interest Check thread, I EXPECT THE BARE MINIMUM OF TWO POSTS A WEEK. If you can’t make this miniscule amount of posts, do not join. If you join anyway, don’t pick a character that will become essential to the plot (for example, one of the three villains). If you find that you can’t make this after you have joined, just give me a reason why, and I may bend the rule for you if the excuse is valid enough.
I shouldn’t have to jump on your ass about posting. You signed up voluntarily, and it’s something you should want to do. I’m not going to slow the RP to a halt because one jackass decides not to post. Things will move on without you. And no, I am not going to be accepting “lack of inspiration” as an excuse. THIS MEANS YOU. I don’t mean to be an ass, but I’m not letting it slide this time.
ONE MORE THING, this is a RP. You are expected to collaborate with other people. If you find your character has nothing to do, talk to a few people in the sign up/discussion thread. It’s what it’s there for. Work things out with others and simply collaborate with your fellow RPers, post in the sign up thread, send them a PM, just do something about it. Don’t get discouraged and get all emo and refuse to post because no one rode your nuts to interact with your character. Be assertive, and just talk things out if you want your character to have something to do. Some of the greatest posts I’ve ever written have come from working things out with my fellow RPers to get something going.
That being said, if three people are posting about going to a bar, PLEASE don’t just have your character barge in and start acting like they’re hot shit. It won’t hurt to ask, it really won’t. Remember that scene in EA2 when a few characters were eating in the dining hall and then a certain someone showed up and we all effectively face palmed? Yeah, let’s try and avoid that. If you want to interact with characters that obviously have something going on, just ask. Odds are, they’ll let you, but no one likes people just dropping in unexpectedly.
Now, all that being said, have fun. I know I sound like a Nazi bastard right about now, but I want to attempt to put annoyances, no matter how minor, to a minimum. Don’t let this discourage you. Although I may sound like a Nazi, I’m really not… most of the time. Just post, have fun, don’t be a dick, and you’ll be okay. Below, you’ll find the plot outline and loads of other nifty shit. Be prepared to read though, it’s a lot of information.
Premise
Prologue - In 2214, Earth as a planet had finally had enough. Resources were sparse and drained, and pollution had skyrocketed beyond anything that anyone had believed possible. Realizing that there was no way to fix things this time, scientists from all over the world began working on a project that was simply titled “ARK”. As the title implies, it was a project that would take Humans from all over the planet and send them into space where they may find a new planet, and learn from their mistakes as a species.
The project would allow ten million human beings to be saved from the inevitable destruction of Earth, while the rest stayed to die along with it. Five hundred thousand of these people would be the brightest minds that Earth had to offer. They went from scientists, doctors, Politian’s, military, and those that had enough money to buy themselves a ticket. The rest of the 9.5 million was selected by lottery.
The ARK was a large vessel, and in fact became the largest known space traveling vessel to ever exist. This one ship would be enough to house ten million human beings. ARK was stocked with food and supplies to last for one hundred years.
Not knowing how long the journey would take, everyone was put into cyrostasis sleep. This way, they would not age or be damaged in any way possible. To ensure that the journey went well, ten teams of ten cycled from one to ten to pilot the ship. One team would be woken up from cyrostasis once a year to pilot the ship for an entire year. Once their year was up, they went back to sleep as the next group woke up.
All in all, the journey took exactly 56 years. The planet they found was rich with life, and could sustain them all. It was rich with oceans, islands, trees, plenty of vegetation and animals. However, humanity wasn’t alone on this planet.
Already on the planet for unknown amounts of time were many different species. None were anywhere near as technologically advanced as Humans were. They still fought with swords and spears, where Humanity had guns and missiles. They all spoke different languages, and a few even were warring with other species. 23rd Century Humanity had practically had come face to face with 14th Century humanity.
Although the ARK project was made in hopes that Humanity would learn from their mistakes, it appeared as if Humanity was already dead set on repeating them. The first five hundred thousand to come out of cyrostasis were the scientists, doctors, Politian’s, and of course, the military. They saw the other species as weaker, and able to be conquered.
And they did just that. There was a slight struggle at first, but ultimately the other species stood no chance. One species in particular, whom the Humans had dubbed “Elves”, due to their appearance, put up a significant struggle, but even they were put down in the end. However, instead of being taken as slaves, many of them simply disappeared. Some Elves remained… many did not. To this day, no one knows what happened to them.
The rest were taken as slaves and treated as such. The new cities of Man were built on their backs.
Years later, the rest of the humans in cyrostasis were awakened, and they lived their lives as if they never stopped. However, they were kept completely in the dark on what happened while they were asleep. Of course, they were not stupid, and many figured it out, but too few of them cared.
Ten millions humans occupied twenty large cities on a planet that they would name Corinith. The cities were massive… very massive; each of them being able to house five hundred thousand human beings. Many of them died due to new diseases, bringing the population to each city down to at least three hundred thousand, the remaining occupants were those of other species who were treated like slaves.
For years things remained this way…
400 years after the landing on Corinith
Lots of things had changed at this point in Corinith’s history. All races eventually came to be equal. The race known as the Elves still hadn’t returned, and very few of them remained. Everything seemed to be going well… save for a few things… It took millions of years for Humans to destroy Earth, but it had only taken them 400 years to pollute Corinith on a grand scale. The pollution is so thick, that the ground levels of the cities are covered in a thick white mist.
This mist makes living on the ground level of the cities hard. Just breathing is a chore. The only men and women that dare venture here are construction crews designed to ensure the foundation of the cities do not fall. Everyone lives in large buildings that reach the sky. The sides of these buildings are much like the streets of cities from Earth long ago. However, the main difference is that they are hanging from the sides of large buildings.
(For those of you that can’t picture this in your head, watch The Fifth Element, or just view these pictures to see what I had in mind. But seriously, go watch The Fifth Element, it’s a fantastic film.

The rich and the government officials live on the top of the skyscrapers. Middle class typically lives near the middle. Lower class lives near the white mist, while the poor die out on the streets, are taken up by Civil Protection, or manage to live in the mist.
Technology has advanced to bring about flying cars, which in the twenty cities, are a necessity to get around as traveling by foot takes a long time in cities so large. Of course, guns also made an advance. Originally, they were only to be used by military and government officials, but as history proved time and time again, the public found a way, and crime soared. The guns of the future turned out to be pistols that shot lasers.
They varied in effects as well. Some were designed to kill on impact, but for the most part, they concentrated on stunning a target and rendering them unconscious. There were even some that allowed for large group incapacitations. All in all, many variants of long ranged weaponry exist.
However, none of this could stop Humanities newest threat.
The Grendarl
The Grendarl have been around for quite some time. Even back before the destruction of Earth, three of them were on Earth, studying Humans. They were all eventually caught, trapped, and captured. The Grendarl used to be a friendly species that traveled around the universe to study and learn. They have no physical form, and instead use a body as a host. If the host dies, they simply travel into another body, making death for them next to impossible.
There are limitations to their power, however. For example, they cannot jump into the body of those with a strong will. If the mind is strong enough, the Grendarl cannot take over the body. There are ways to contain one inside of one body, and when the Grendarl was captured, that’s what happened.
Humanity interested them greatly. They lived on Earth for years before the three of them came out to the public about what they were. Much to their dismay, the people of Earth didn’t take well to this. Scientists trapped them in their hosts and ran many experiments. The hosts were never cared for, as the scientists only cared for the beings inside of them. The Grendarl felt every ounce of pain as their bodies got older, worn out, and eventually starved to death.
Of course, all the testing done to them while they were in their hosts didn’t help them much either. The Grendarl experienced torture like no one had ever experienced before. They witnessed the cruelty of Humanity first hand; they even watched as they destroyed their own planet and did nothing of it. This caused them all to hate and despise humanity. They wanted nothing but revenge and justice for what the Humans did to them.
When their bodies died, the Grendarl experienced the pain of death… but didn’t die. The Scientists thought that if they were trapped in the hosts, they wouldn’t be able to leave and the Grendarl would die. But they did not. They lived, jumping into the bodies of the greatest minds that Earth had to offer. They were involved with everything, including the ARK project. Their ultimate goal was to trap Humanity on the ship and send them into space to starve to death.
However, things never went the way that they planned. The Humans landed on Corinith and enslaved other Species. As far as the Grendarl were concerned, they were now infected by whatever sickness the Humans carried. The Grendarl’s ultimate goal was to trap humanity on Corinith and have them run themselves in the ground. Today, they run the government of Corinith, and have everything under their control.
But no one even knows they exist, but there are theories among those in the Resistance...
Modern Day Corinith
Under the control of The Grendarl, the nature of the government on all the cities of Corinith is rather oppressive. No one is aware of the existence of the Grendarl, but it is evident by the way the government treats their people that something is not right. Many laws have been formed that make life hard on all citizens of Corinith. Yet breaking them means capture by the Civil Protection troops set around the city.
However, some have noticed that there are no prisons, nor are there recruitment centers for any branch of the military or Civil Protection. This has led many to speculate where the troops come from. Anyone caught doing a criminal act is never heard from again. The laws that have been formed are almost ludicrous in fashion. Some of them are as follows:
1) Every citizen must voluntarily register as a member of society or face imprisonment by Civil Protection.
2) Listening to music is prohibited under punishment by Civil Protection
3) Publicly talking down on the government is prohibited under punishment by Civil Protection.
4) People riding on Grav Lifts are subject to random searches and interrogation by Civil Protection.
5) Forms of art of literature not given the permission to be read by the government are prohibited under punishment by Civil Protection.
6) Those that travel outside of their cities will be imprisoned by Civil Protection
7) Traveling outside of the city without a proper permit is prohibited
8) Attempting to travel outside of the planet is punishable by death (There is a blockade off planet that will shoot down anything that attempts to escape orbit. To this day, no one has succeeded; those that have tried have all been killed.)
9) Carrying a firearm is prohibited
10) Procreation is prohibited with a punishment by death
Civil Protection members are clad in black and they all wear combat gear openly in the city. Each of them wears a helmet that hides their face completely. No one knows who they are, and the masks never come off. They are dangerous when provoked and very difficult to face and even more so to actually kill. They follow orders given to them by a radio in their helmets. When one is killed, a loud signal goes off that is broadcast to nearby units allowing them to find whoever killed them.
There exists a resistance group that defies the government openly. However, they are too small and too weak to do anything excessively damaging. They are the only ones that live outside of the city. They live in a small mountain range in a series of tunnels that they simply call “Haven”.
Tensions in the twenty cities are high, but no one dares openly defy the system. There exist people that do. Some run information, some sell firearms, some break into places to steal information. However, the numbers of these people drop daily, as they are either killed, or captured to never be heard from again.
The story takes place in City 17 (Half-Life 2 reference) also known as Zerice, the largest of the twenty cities, headquarters of the government, and where most of the Resistance stages their acts. As a citizen of Zerice, you’ll either be fighting back against the oppressive government by either being a member of the resistance or just being someone who doesn’t bow down, or you will be helping the government, either by playing as a Grendarl or just being someone affiliated with them, or you will be helping find a way off Corinith to a place where you can live free without their influence.
The year is 500A.C (After Corinith), and the RP begins exactly 500 years after Humans first show up on Corinith. (Note: the currency is called “Credits”, and yes, that is a Star Wars reference)
Technology
As stated above, Corinith is a world of vast technology. There are large ships, flying cars, and plenty of guns. These guns vary in what they do. There are also Grav Lifts (to be explained below), and many other things. For the most part, in this RP, you can go nuts creating your own technology. I, of course, will be reviewing everything that you make (which you will be putting in your bio under the “weapons/technology” section of your bio).
Even things found in your characters place of living will be created by you. There will be a section in your bios titled “place of living” where you go into detail about where it is your character lives. (Basically, just describe your character apartment.)
There will also be a section of your bio that will ask what your character travels around on. It can be a flying care, a Grav Lift, or in you choose not to have one, it can be simply nothing. Do remember, the RP takes place in Zerice, or City 17 as Civil Protection calls it. (Yes, I love Half-Life 2.)
Grav Lifts
Grav Lifts are essentially hoverboards. However, instead of just hovering above the ground, these boards fly. They are a primary for of travel for most young people. The boards are typically metallic in appearance, and have a small ion engine that allows them to fly. These can be decorated however the character wants. If you choose to give your character one, simply describe it in the “Grav Lift” section of your bio.
However, be aware that these do not travel more than thirty miles per hour. Keep in mind that if they went faster than that, then your character would probably end up falling off of it. While they may not be as fast as a flying car, they are far more maneuverable, and one can easily wield a weapon while flying it.
Occupation
Every citizen on Corinith must have a job. Ones that do not are typically working with the Resistance, or die due to not being able to afford to eat. The job can be anything that you think of. And, as you may have guessed, you fill this out in the “occupation” part of your bio. Just bear in mind, the job has to be something Cyberpunk/Sci-Fi. You are not a pirate of the seven seas. Deal w/ it.
Augmentations
Now, I realize that not everyone wants a character that uses guns and lasers and whatnot. However, magic on Corinith doesn’t exist… or at least, not anymore. Therefore, I’ve implemented the “augment” system.
What an Augment is, is an “edit” to one’s DNA/genes/whatever you want to call it, that allows them to do what is typically not possible for anyone. For example, if one wanted to be able to fire lightning from their fingertips, they could get an augment to do it. However, these come at a hefty price. Augments aren’t cheap, and they cannot be undone.
Not only that; augments are very painful. If one decides to get one, they can be assured that it will be one of the most painful experiences of their lives. These can allow one to jump higher, punch harder, run faster, or even shoot fireballs from their hand.
However, as stated before, these come at a price. Not only is it painful, but depending on what the character has done to them, it could have major side effects. For example, someone getting an augment to jump higher would find that their knees start to give out at a younger age. Someone wanting to punch harder may find that they get tired more easily in a fight.
When it comes to using things such as fire and lightning, one would find that the more they use fire, it burns them. If one has a fire augment, they would have burn marks on their arms and the palm of their hand. They may be able to use fire, they may be a little more resistant than others, but they are not immune. Shooting fire from your hand still burns.
The same would go for Lightning. If one is firing lightning from their fingertips, their fingertips would probably be burned off. This would show because their fingertips may be slightly lighter than the rest of their skin.
While I will be allowing you to create your own augments, do keep in mind that they must have a side effect. There has to be a weakness involved. Of course, I will be going over all of these to ensure that nothing is blow out of proportion. To create your own, just fill things out in the “augmentation” section of your bio. If you choose not to have any, just leave it blank.
Bear in mind that Civil Protection has devices that can turn them off. If one of them handcuffs someone with an augment, the augment turns off due to the technology of the handcuffs. However, even they can’t remove an augment. No one can, as the technology doesn’t exist to undo them.
Races/Species
There are only three premade races/species in this RP. Those are the Humans, the Grendarl, and the “Elf-like” species mentioned in the beginning of the thread. Anyone can be a Human, there are only three Grendarl, and yes, they are all evil, and there are only two Elves. To those that decide to be an Elf, you will have access to some information that will not be mentioned here. It is for your character only, and it is up to you to decide what your character does with it. Your character will, at some point, be pivotal to the plot.
Human – Race that anyone can be. They vary from background to personality.
The Grendarl – They have no physical appearance of their own. They can jump from body to body, and even to forms of technology such as robots or androids. They want nothing more than to rule over Humans in secrecy. Their long term goal is to see Humanity rip themselves apart under their rule. They are not invincible, but one has to be smart in order to kill one. Killing just one of them is next to impossible.
Elves – Only open to two people. They have long ears, and their race was the ones that lasted the longest against the Humans when they first arrived. However, the majority of them left. No one knows where they went except for the Elves. Because of their mysterious disappearance, they are rare, and if seen by Civil Protection, they are hunted down for questioning. They have access to a very crucial piece of information. While they do not hate Humans, they are very distrusting of them.
I will be allowing you to create your own race/species. Go fucking nuts with it. However, be as descriptive as you can be. Is your race humanoid? Are they reptilian? How tall are they? How strong are they? What is their average life span? How do they hold themselves around other races? As I said, be descriptive as possible when creating them.
You can fill all of that out under the “race/species” section of your bio. I’ll be going over them in major detail, and I will be asking questions about them. Have fun, go nuts, but be very descriptive… VERY DESCRIPTIVE.
