before the us government takes over the world  :trollita:

lol Justin Bieber could be thrown in jail because he sang other people's songs which made him famous :giggle:

Youtube will be fucked!

Visit wikipedia.

it's in blackout mode to protest SOPA.

yh t has as well, minecraft, google has a partition on the homepage, and many other people are doing other stuff today, I blackouted my youtube and blog and change my profile picture on here and twitter

also i agree with sopa. online piracy is a crime and therefore bad. if you do bad things you will go to hell.
and no one wants to go to hell

I agree with them stopping piracy that plain wrong, but if this gets passed, freedom of speeh on the internet will be gone

I wouldnt go so far as to say freedom of speech would be gone. Sounds dramatic when you put it that way.
Prosecuting people and bringing down heavy charges would be a better way to go. If they can afford the resources. There are worse things on the internet than pirates.
Pedophiles for example. But they dont hurt the rich movie companies so no one cares about them.

Don't I already have a thread about SOPA n'shit? Keep up, lazy.

But yeah SOPA is bad. Whoever thought that was a good idea is utterly retarded. Still, hopefully enough information about it is being spread via social networking sites and decent news channels/sites to make people realise what passing such a thing could potentially do and stand up against it before its too late. Don't know what the U.S. coverage is like but here in the U.K. its barely on the news, if at all. :mokken:

Sorry folks, thread is moving to spam. Too many one liners

Wikipedia haven't really done a good job considering you can bypass the "blackout" page simply by pressing escape whilst the page you want is still loading. It seems very poorly drafted though, if they want to make an impact then they should try harder to shut down major torrent sites like Piratebay or prosecuting people who upload torrents like the odd person in the past has been, which would at least send out a strong message.

Either way, people are going to find a way around it. It's very obvious that it's an American movement.

If the movie companies are so against it then how about they donate money to create resources to help prosecute pirates. I realise you cant prosecute everyone but i would think twice about downloading a movie if the threat of being prosecuted was real.
Theres no reason for people not to download a movie or song illegaly when its so easy and basically risk free.
I like my dvd collection so im not big on downloading movies. Not saying i havent done it ofc. I imagine 99% of internet users have. Its just too easy and risk free like i said.

It's not risk free in the US, where they track the ports (if you're torrenting) to see if their content is being passed through it illegally. Though they really don't care as much about the downloading compared to distributing it to others. SOPA affects more than the US, though, because they'll just tear down whole sites, regardless of who can see it or not, due to "copyright infringement."

If you look at how many are prosecuted and how many things are ilegally downloaded it certainly feels like risk free whether they track you or not :jim:

They're not prosecuted, just fined out their asses if they're caught :lew: Though, it's relatively easy to not get caught if you're smart. Torrents just happen to be the easiest way to get caught. But that's all I can say about that

Ohhhh Canadaa...

I have no idea what's going on with this stupid SOPA thing. Someone dumb it down for me plox.
