UPDATE: SE has confirmed that this trailer is FAKE
http://kotaku.com/5914989/square-enix-confirms-fake+seeming-final-fantasy-xv-trailer-is-indeed-fake

I saw an article on one of my fairly often visited forums that is playstation dedicated....this is the link with the story and a video.

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/11273.html

Obviously this could genuinely be a fake...or it could be true. If it is true it could make sense as it has taken so long to be developed and seeing how FFXIII as a franchise isn't fairing so well they might rename it as the next true instalment. The thing I don't get is that the Wii U is mentioned and not the Xbox 360. We already know that FFXIII hasn't been confirmed or going to be released on the next console of theirs. Also if rumours of specs are to be taken in debate then the Xbox 360 is still a valuable candidate to be able to run top games.

The only possibility I can see Wii U mentioned if this story is to be true...is that the newly renamed Versus will be a launch title for the Wii U.

This is all rumour and speculation but it is interesting to discuss, let us see your views!

...Ugh. I'm someone who will stand up for SE but this seems...terribly lazy. It just gives them further excuse to delay it even more and...I'm not sure how it can be considered a main numbered title if its main lore is grounded in what has already been established in FFXIII. I love the idea of Versus but this just....sets alarm bells off in my head.

I was thinking the exact same thing. If it's true then will they have to rewrite the story as well? They are using FFXIII mythology. >.> I really don't know what to think of this. On one hand I love the number change but on the other I'll be expecting a lot more from the game when it comes out and I'll be extremely impatient while waiting. I'm just hoping this video's faked so I can just get Versus and be done with FF. :hmmm:

From what I've read up on it, the game is supposed to be a separate entity for FFXIII altogether, complete with different settings and characters. And the footage I've seen from the game looks nothing like FFXIII or XIII-2 for that matter. If that is the case, then I'm not bothered that they are promoting the status of the game to FFXV. But if they are going to go this route, I better not see Lighting or Noel pop up in this game out of nowhere. SE still hasn't complete won me over on this game yet. They still have a lot of work to do to gain my confidence back after what I've endured from the launch of FFXIV.

:facepaw:

Whilst Versus XIII has always appeared to have its own aesthetic character, this does seem very lazy. I guess it could be justified by explaining that many FF games share similar themes and mythologies anyway (such as crystal shrines, etc). However Versus XIII was explicitly stated as being part of the same series as XIII. Their spiritual similarity was meant to be so striking that they were to be considered as part of that same series.

This, if it is true, just suggests that they've realised that they have taken so long to release this game that it might as well be its own title. That way they don't need to worry about planning for an FFXV... That's a bit naughty.

Still, I don't mind that much. A name is a name. It's just a bit cheeky and it doesn't look right having it named as Final Fantasy XV.

They should get their heads out of their asses and decide what to do with the game and stick with it, KH3 will never see the light of day until this comes out. I've waited long enough SE, hurry the fuck up and release this game already. :jtc:

Yeah............laziness at its best. Versus XIII is supposed to be apart of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. It's supposed to have the same mythology as XIII and XIII-2. From what I read, the Goddess in XIII-2 is mentioned in Versus XIII as well. They have similar gods, creation myths, etc. They are separate games but the mythology and the crystals are what makes the games apart of the same sub-series. Or at least that's what I thought......

If they make it FFXV then they should probably rename any gods that are similar to FFXIII. Which isn't really bad, I guess. But still.....I'd rather have Versus XIII and a separate FFXV.

Now it looks like the only games they'll have in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series are FFXIII, FFXIII-2, and Type-0 (and any sequels that come out of it).

Edit: Oh and one more thing.....the Wii U? Really? I don't know the mechanics of the device but will it be able to hold up in terms of the graphics this game will bring? Anyone know more about it that can clarify? Cause from what I fear, adapting it to the Wii U will only delay this game even more.

Hmm...if I'm not mistaken, XIII, XIII-2 and Versus XIII were all supposed to be part of the Fabula Nova Crystalis series. As for Versus XIII being renamed XV...that does sound a little off, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what develops.

The comments said it was fake :hmmm:

Wait they said the Wii-U part was fake :hmmm:

I'm confused...So I shall walk away

I'll just say that this needed to happen. Because obviously, there was no reason to call it "Versus XIII" because not only did that sound kind of dumb, this game looked big enough to be its own thing, and took way too damn long to develop to be a spinoff. If this is real, I'd say this is totally alright with me.

Looked a little fake, though. That voice sounded a little... off. Plus, that trailer was the exact one we already saw (from what was shown).

LOL.

I have nothing more to say. But that'd constitute spam, so I'd better say something else.

Although really, what more needs to be said? If this is true, it's horrendously lazy. Not only does that mean we'll see another 2 years or so tacked onto the delay - so, maybe 2020, if we're lucky - but...well, way to contradict yourselves, Square Enix. So much for the Fabulawhateveritscalled series; although this is a good thing, if Versus is even going to stand a chance of measuring up to fan's unreasonably high and entirely unjustified expectations, it'll stand a much greater chance of doing so if it cuts all ties to the worst two games Square Enix has made for a long time. The less it has to do with that mess, the better.

Mmmkay, I'll play this game.

+ If this is genuine, whoever is filming this has balls. Usually, the audience would be thoroughly searched to see if they have recording equipment on them, so unless this guy has a necktie camera or something...

+ Why is this footage from the January 2011 trailer? Seriously, Dragoon Lady is visible, then the two guys aiming swords at each other, then Noctis and whatshisname talking. It's even the same sequence as the 2011 trailer, making me suspect that someone's just taken an old trailer and tried to dress up the end to make it seem new. If they're going to show something, why would they show the same things (not even new cutscene content?) instead of what Nomura said they would aim do the next time Versus is shown? i.e. how the game actually plays and demos on the PS3?

+ Why the hell does that accent sound so forced? You sure you're Japanese?

+ That looks - at best - a very small lecture hall. I don't know, but that just screams amateur hoax.

+ "Two thousand and -" Ah, the WOOOOOs conveniently cut him off. I've seen some comments say that the person actually said 2012, which as we all know is a load of bollocks.

+ Why would you interrupt the screening? Wouldn't they wait for it to be over before speaking? Or do "private" screenings comprised of the most un-game-journalists-like people I have ever seen in that small room just work differently?

---------------

But that's a good idea actually. Why not make it a FFXV? Oh what? There's a problem because it references things like Etro as well? And this is a major problem or issue...how? It's not like other forms of terminology haven't been used across multiple games. See the terms "crystals", "Magicite", "Espers" and "warriors of Light" for instance. And so what? Screw the whole Fabula Nova Crystallis thing when it has failed to be what Square-Enix have originally intended it to be. They intended it to have been twice the success of the FFVII Compilation or something, with half a dozen entries at least with a collection of novels, or maybe even a full-featured film! But with what has transpired since 2006, hasn't that sort of hit the buffers?

If SE does change this to the 15th game, can we actually turn the whole "oh, we will never get Versus" thing into a factual statement? :awesome:

This sounds very convenient, lazy, but also sensible. They took Type-0 out of the FNC Compilation because eventually it deviated away from the original plan of the game and everything that it stood for. It still has 13 elements, but it's not part of it anymore (I think?). To do this for Versus makes sense, saves them time, and finally gives the people what they want.

Regardless, I've been waiting for this game so I'll be getting it.

I agree that this is very lazy on their part.

However, they have spent years and millions upon millions in the development for the game. Does that make it worthy of a full fledged Final Fantasy title? Perhaps.

Will all that amount time in development and all those resources make it a good game regardless of the title? Hardly, but who's to judge?

However, I was not aware that this was simply a continuation of the Fabula Nova Crystallis.

Can someone please provide a few links to back up this claim?

I was aware that "Final Fantasy Versus XIII" was simply a codename within the development cycle for lack of a better title.

There's already an existing thread about this. And for future reference, try to have a [RUMOUR] tag in front of the title if it's something unofficial. Thanks =)

Several reliable sources like Novacrystallis has said that this video is fake. Even if no one says so, the footage looks too fishy too be true.

I hope no one gets their expectations too high or too low because of a highly potentially false news.

I had no idea Type-0 was no longer apart of FNC. When I looked it up on wiki it said it was still apart of it......but that's Wikipedia. Don't know how reliable that would be.

I'm not 100% on that but I assumed with a name change came about a new line for it. It's going to get Type-1/2/3 down the line too, so I'm fairly certain they're their own thing now.
