Just wondering which you think is better since I'm in the market for a new console. :dave:

(Again, apologies if this has been made already - never seen it though)

I went by exclusives. Find out what games are/will only avaliable for that console and go by that. If nothing exlusive appeals and you're looking for a superior system, then going by the preaching I've seen, I'd go with Ps3. :wacky:

Plus, PSN is free, all you need is a method to connect to the internet, that's money saved.

I chose my PS3 based on what my friends had. I spend the majority of my playing time online with friends from here and from 6th form so having the same console and games as them was going to be better.

I hardly know anybody with an xbox 360 so it was an abvious choice. There weren't any games exclusive to either that I particularly wanted either which helped.

At first I was all like, 'well the xbox is cheaper, might go for that' then I thought about having to pay for Live and thought I might as well go for the PS3 since PSN is free.

Get the console that your friends have and has your favourite exclusives. Don't buy into all the fanboy bullshit, they're both good consoles.

Simples.

I would suggest a PS3 though, because I saw you say somewhere you had a PS2 and the PS3 will play those games as well.

I'm not saying this because I've got a PS3 but it is better...........I've had both, my 360 broke down a few years ago then I got a PS3...........The only thing I really miss from the 360 is just Halo........I'm kinda over it there wasn't really addicted to it but thats the only thing the 360 has over the PS3 in my opinion. The fact that you have to pay also for online whereas PSN is free is another good thing about the PS3.

Plus FF Versus XIII is exclusive on it (and hopefully will stay that way) and trust me you don't wanna miss out on it.It is one of the reasons I got a PS3 after all!

I recently just got a brand new Xbox 360 and, i'm already having an issue with it. I started playing Fable III and, a error message pops up every time that i start the game. I know it can't be the game... there's no scratches and its brand new... i'm assuming it has to do with the Xbox... unless its just me.

I have both systems and, I like the PS3 better by far. The fact that online's free and you can play movies/web is pretty amazing compared to the 360. I mean, I just started getting into the 360 so, as far as games, i'm gonna have to also go with the PS3.

The PS3 has a lot less problems then the 360 at least, in my eyes so, in the long run, I think you'd be saving money if you got the PS3 instead cause 360, you might be paying a lot for repairs.

PlayStation 3, I own all three consoles but I can tell you I use my PS3 the most, then wii coming in second.
I honestly cannot find much to do on the Xbox. The games are all the same... 1000 halo games although if you're into halo get the xbox then.
I constantly use the PS3 for watching TV shows and movies as I find it plays more files than the Xbox and my xbox for some odd reason puts the audio out of sync every time i pause something. The PS3 doesn't.
The PS3 has a lot more games that I enjoy and if you're into the old PSone games then you can play those on there too.
The PSN is free, although not as awesome as Xbox live when it comes to the amount of people on etc its still awesome to be able to go online, play against friends and browse the PSN store without worrying about paying $30 a month.

Anyway my vote is PS3!

Personally, I would go with PS3. I feel you get more bang for your buck with it. Besides that, online is free.

I would suggest a PS3 though, because I saw you say somewhere you had a PS2 and the PS3 will play those games as well.

Uh, not anymore they don't...only the first two models do. The first ones had hardware emulation, then the second models switched to software emulation. After that, they stripped PS2 backwards compatibility out completely. There is something you can get for free in the PSN Store that will enable you to play any PS2 games that give you the option to do a data install on your PS3, but that is it. Unless something has changed since the PS3 Slims came out (which is what I have), then feel free to correct me. I sure as hell don't have PS2 backwards compatibility.

PS1 games work wonderfully on PS3s though. They almost seem to work better on the PS3 than they did on the PS2. I never owned a PS1, so I can't tell you how that compares.

PlayStation 3. It's far more reliable, the exclusives are almost always something to look forward to and aren't all some form of shooter game (like the 360), and are definitely worth your money. You get a practically free built-in Blu-ray player, as well! Using the internet browser, downloading files/games/videos is all completely free and you can't really do the same things internet wise with the costly 360. Even though the PS3 is slightly more expensive, in the end, you'll spend less money on the PS3 compared to the 360's massive need for accessories.

At first I was all like, 'well the xbox is cheaper, might go for that' then I thought about having to pay for Live and thought I might as well go for the PS3 since PSN is free.
Pretty much this. Since it sounds like the OP doesn't really have a strong preference of either, I'd suggest looking at the 360 as well because you might be able to find one cheaper than the PS3. But the price might end up being the same either way.

I originally got an Xbox360, because of the price difference. But this was back when the PS3 was at a price so high nobody who wasn't a diehard rich Conservative could afford it. Since XboxLive costs, and you're not getting anything particularly special with the service, that is always going to put it at a disadvantage. Say (and I hate using this as an example) you want to play CoD online. Would you rather play for free on the PS3, or pay a ridiculous fee on the 360?

Exclusives-wise, I'd say they're about evenly matched...but unless Microsoft own the rights to the game, it's almost guaranteed that the game will be ported across to the PS3 at some point. Best example of this is Mass Effect 2.

Go with the PS3. You won't have to pay to play online, you're not missing out on too much with the 360 exclusives, and some of them might even be ported to the PS3 in the future anyway. If you get one of the older models you can play PS2 games on it as well, I believe. Plus it runs a lot quieter, and the home menu doesn't make you want to tear your eyes out.

Oh, I had no idea. That sucks. My one is a quite an old version so I can still play them. Oh well, nevermind.

I have both systems :/ and honestly i prefer ps3 its quieter and doesnt laser burn your discs or suffer from system failure and with that said my xbox has yet to go through these things.. I mainly play my xbox because thats what my friends have

So to sum it up ps3's online is free which is nice and if you want extra, more ps3 fan stuff you could subscribe to psn plus which is like live with hulu and insider vids and such
live is nifity mainly because you can voice chat and play games at the same time
( my ps3 can play all 3 generations of games and not via download either but the new ps3s should be able to play the ones on psn i thought)
i hope this helped..

Yeah, backwards compatability is the only thing I can complain about with my PS3, I'd rather it played PS1 and 2 games so I could get rid of my old fat PS2 :hmmm:
But, it's not a problem, my PS2 still works so if I want to play old games I just connect that up to the back of my telly. It's not a problem if you already have a working PS2, unless you're really really picky about space :hmmm:

ps3

This was something I said way back lol...xbox360 might have a free build-in adapter right now but at the time it didnt have one ;p

PS3 all the way.

It's free to use online and there are far more interesting titles on the console. I've had my slim 250GB one for a year now and I've never ever had any problems with it. The graphics are also far better and people may get narked about this from the Xbox 360 side, but it's true.

When FFXIII was being promoted on TV, they used graphics from the PS3 version and tried to flog it from the Xbox. Needless to say, it was uncovered.

What exclusives do you really want? Which one is more popular amongst your friends?

The PS3 is more expensive but comes with more than what the 360 comes with for example

Free online
Internet Browser
Rechargable controllers
100% BC with PS1, and with some models PS2 games
Blu-ray

So if you really want to save money, the PS3 is the way to go. If you care about online gaming here then he PS3 is the console most of the members here have.

It's actually nice to see the overwhelming majority of this forum's members prefer the PS3 as well.

I've pretty much given up on the 360 since Microsoft suspended my account because they had trouble trying to access my credit cards without my permission.

I'd choose the PS3 for the console itself rather than the actual titles released. With games it entirely depends on what you're looking for in a game, for every decent game released exclusively I'll end up playing far more that are multiplatform. So I'm not even going to argue the games point of view since it'll be 100% for a personal view on what games I like.

As for the console itself, the failure rate for the PS3 is pretty much non-existent compared to the Xbox 360. I've heard that Kinect is causing problems on the non-slim Xbox 360s too. Online is free which is a massive plus point, personally I think it's a complete rip off to make you pay £40 odd for a game then an extra £50 just to be able to play it online. It works with MMORPGs but not games in general. Bluray does make games better too, graphically. As seen with Final Fantasy XIII, Square-Enix had to cut about 16-18GB out of the game for it to fit on a reasonable amount of disks, which meant that amount of data came from taking the graphics from 1080p to 720p and cutting the audio from FLAC to whatever they used.

Wifi is a plus point too, since I know Microsoft were selling wifi adapters at one point for quite a hefty price. I dislike Micro$oft mainly because they're a company who are all too happy to try and screw every penny out of you for the smallest things, whereas, Sony will do the same to a degree since they're a business but at least they keep the essentials such as PSN etc free.

My suggestion would be to look on ebay for an older gen PS3 to get the back-compatibility.

But I think PS3 is way better, other than Halo/some shooter games (having to wait a bit longer for Mass Effect)- there is no real advantage to 360.
