The word you are looking for is “hallelujah”. That word again, is “halleujah”.

This week’s Famitsu has confirmed that ICO and Shadow of the Colossus will finally be getting HD versions for PlayStation 3. The mag’s low on details, and has two separate listings for both of them, probably meaning they’ll be released separately in Japan. It’s been much-rumoured that the two would be bundled together collection. Dates for both are TBA, according to Famitsu.

The dream is reality
The news confirms a year’s worth of speculation. Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda told Eurogamer at TGS last year he'd like to see a collection of both ICO and Shadow in a similar vein to the God of War Collection, before telling Kotaku the possibility would be raised at a Sony meeting.

Then back in May, VG247 was told Sony would release the collection, with a further report putting it down for Q1 2011. Last weekend, it was discovered the pack was up for pre-order on Wal-Mart's website, before a EG report said it would be out sometime around March and April next year for “around £24.99″.

The report also said it’d be available to pre-order at online retailers within the next couple of days. But it’s happening, alas separately in Japan by the looks of it. Celebrate, party people.

ICO originally launched in 2002 in Europe, followed by Shadow of the Colossus in 2006, both for PS2.

Thanks, Andriasang.

I'm happy but a bit gutted, it's great that they're coming out, they're now on the very top of my list but the fact they're coming out separately sort of sounds to me they'll be £25 EACH =/

I guess we'll find out very soon how progress has been going with The Last Guardian alongside this project.

I'm a little bit annoyed that they may be being sold separately, but hopefully they'll group them together when released over shores.

:hmmm: I already have SOTC but I was willing to get another copy if it was in the £25 bundle. But I don't think it's worth it on it's own though. I'll probably pick up Ico though, I've never played that.

If it is that much for each game then I might not get them.

I already have Ico and SotC, so the only reason that I would buy the HD versions would be to awe at the graphics, and to appreciate what already were two of the most graphically stunning games of all time as even more graphically stunning.

If it is £25 for both of them then that is a great deal, but I think I might sadly have to pass if it is £25 for each. That's just too much for me when I already own the games, and also don't have £50 to spare. :sad2:

Well, that was a smart move of me to re-purchase the PS2 Ico recently even though I knew the HD re-releases would be inevitable. Still, I suppose there's one good thing that they're releasing both separately. I can just get the HD Shadow of the Colossus without having to get the Ico. And I can't say I have any good reason to buy Ico for the third time other than the graphics upgrade for another £25.

Other than graphics being updated, I think they were also improving the frame rate. Which, in my opinion, is very good. There were times in the original games where you could tell the frame rate had dropped significantly. :gonk:

Great games though. :griin:

Cool! My friend has been pestering me to play these games for a while now but I just never got around to it. This will give me a good opportunity to play them especially since the last time I checked the two games are expensive seperately. Ico was fun for the small amount of time I played it.

Sony’s formally revealed the HD ports of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus for PS3 during its TGS event, known as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus: The Collection. The collection will launch next spring.

Ueda also confirmed on stage before showing Last Guardian that both ICO and Shadow would support 3D. It’s also been retrofitted for widescreen. He’s since also announced at an event for press that the version of ICO that will be added in the collection will be the European edition, featuring content not found in the US edition.

Ueda also said “they were looking into” the issue about the US boxart of ICO, which didn’t go down too well. Sony confirmed to VG247 yesterday it’ll be releasing the two games for PS3 here in Europe, with more details dropping today. After months and months of speculation, the collection was confirmed in Famitsu magazine on Tuesday. It’s thought they will be sold separately in Japan.

The first shots of ICO and Shadow on PS3 were released yesterday. ICO originally launched on PS2 in Europe in 2002, while Shadow of the Colossus launched four years later in 2006.

Again, 360 button, push it up to 720 for HD.

It really is about fucking time.

I've never got to play either games, but that's about to change.

Any word on the release date Ringo?

Before the end of this year. At the end of the video it says 2011/9/22 (in Japan).

Now, I don't speak or read Japanese moonrunes, but I'm pretty sure that's a date. :hmmm:

The graphical improvement is definitely noticeable even if it is usually hard to detect it in a Youtube video. Ignoring the fact that I already have Ico on the PS2 (and goodness me, it was already graphically gorgeous in SD), I'll definitely get this also to try out Shadow of the Colossus. This and with The Last Guardian somewhere on the horizon, it's a good time to have a PS3. :ryan:

Ico is really good, but I never tried Shadow of the Colossus. So I want to get this so I can play both games, even if I only ever played one of them. I really can not wait to play Ico remade on ps3. Shadow of the colossus is a good game from what I hear, so that one has my interest as well. So we have Ico, Shadow of the colossus, and The last guardian all on ps3. Last guardian is going to be fantastic along with these two.

SOTC is pretty much one of the best games ever so I'll definitely get that and ICO as well seeing as I haven't played that.

And the HD update looks great as well. Can't wait to play them. :ohoho:

Ok, please excuse me while I go drool and cry myself to distraction from happiness. D: About fucking time no shit, I was hoping for this. Those two games have made me blub a little in the past and I totally respect games that can do that.

I miss ICO and SOTC. At the time I couldn't afford to buy them so I only could rent them. But now... heeeeheeeheeee~

This and with The Last Guardian somewhere on the horizon, it's a good time to have a PS3. :ryan:

Wooooord, sistah!

I still want the game. But I don't see a difference. :hmmm:

Never played any of these games but now I will eventually..

TBH I never knew it looked that good on the ps2 muwhaha.....I kind of agree the changes seem minimal must be cuz of shitty youtube.........
