So after nearly 21 years of practically being a little boy, (i.e wearing sweat pants and over sized plain shirts, playing with Pokemon, Yugi-Oh and Magic Cards, collecting FF figures for about 7 years and not knowing how to put on make up until I was 15) I finally figured out that what you wear DOES matter if it doesn't match.
I usually never really cared for what I wore... I only just started dabbling in jeans a few years ago, and I figured jeans went with everything. But not if it's the wrong colour. I usually wore just dark wash or blue jeans, which normally go with any type of top. But last week, I bought my first pair of spiffy white jeans. I've always wanted a pair of white jeans but you need a specific body type for them, otherwise (seeing as they're write) they can highlite all your flaws.
Not thinking about it I had packed my white jeans and a grey top to wear in town afterwards I was done with the gym. It was a cute, plain wash grey shirt which I thought would be okay with the pants. Boy was I wrong.
After changing, I had a glance in the full view mirror and there they were. My love handles. A beaming flaw highlited by the grey shirt, which was able to be pulled down over the back of the jeans, but oh the wrong colour for hiding flaws. That and it just... clashed. Grey doesn't go white, and now I could see why (unless it was perhaps layered).
A black top should have been my ideal choice to hide my love handles, which were never really an issue in all my dark wash jeans because they hid them fine.
...Where is all of this going? Well, I realized today that the whole 'this top doesn't go with my jeans' thing isn't just a farce. Because if you don't pay enough attention to what you're wearing and with what, then you may be showing off all your insecurities which you've tried to hard to hide over the last few years.
So girls, how about you? How long did it take you to realize this, if you even did, and does it make that big of a difference to you? Do you care about what you wear, or do you just throw shit together hoping it matches?
