Sorry if it isn't very good - its been a while since I've written one, and I'm not used to playing in modern day RPs. XD;
Name: Garth McMillan
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Garth is a tall man, almost six inches over six feet in height, and has a lean build that does not, at first glance, appear to display much strength to it. He has a ravaged, worn-down appearance from years of indulgence; his face is not unattractive, but it has become pinched over the years, with lines that will not fade. His skin is appears to be almost bloodless, further accentuating his gaunt, frail appearance. His eyes are a pale blue and appear to be almost white unless one looks closely, and his hair is similarly colourless, through years of constant application of dye and lack of exposure to sunlight due to Garth wearing various wigs.
Garth also has the image of his Arcana tattooed across his back in full colour, as well as his mother’s first name – Marie – on his right arm.
Garth’s attire, during the day, is commonly a nondescript black businessman’s suit with a blood-red tie. Recently, he has also taken to using a swordstick, which also makes him appear ten years older than what he actually is. He also wears a simple steel ring – his father’s – on his right index finger, and will sometimes wear a pair of nondescript black sunglasses, depending on the weather. If it is raining, he will swap the swordstick for an umbrella. He wears his hair tied back into a simple ponytail.
In the evening, Garth’s attire will depend entirely on where he decides to spend his evening. If he chooses to socialise with the upper class, he will wear a white tuxedo, keeping the swordstick, and will commonly wear a pair of orange-tinted, circular sunglasses as well. On occasion, however, he will wear another black suit, this one slightly more casual and comfortable, without the tie. Again, he will wear his hair tied back into a simple ponytail, appearing to be the businessman enjoying the nightlife of the city.
If he chooses to socialise elsewhere, he wears a full leather black trench coat with a deep indigo lining, which he usually keeps buttoned up. Beneath this he wears a plain black shirt, and an ordinary pair of black jeans which are normally tattered at the bottom. To complement this, he wears a pair of black studded leather boots, which reach up to just past mid-calf. On occasion he will wear a black wig or a piercing (he has had his ears pierced multiple times, as well as his nose and tongue, but he normally keeps the piercings out) to complement this. He carries his knives and firearms inside his coat when dressed like this.
Personality:
Garth’s defining trait is that he is inhumanly spontaneous – he does what he feels like, when he feels like it, and there will be no mercy for those who place themselves in his path. As a result, he is entirely self centred: all that matters to him is that his immediate wishes and desires are fulfilled, and whatever means he takes to obtain those ends are irrelevant.
However, Garth has an all-encompassing sense of humour, and is an extremely likeable individual when he’s in a good mood: he has a charming, almost gentlemanly manner, with just the right amount of dirty innuendo to bring a smile to people’s faces. He enjoys the company of others – demands it, in fact – and, unless he is in a foul mood (in which case those who aren’t too drunk to move or too stupid to recognise the signs will get as far away from him as possible, for his wrath is indiscriminate...and bloody) those he attracts find his company to be enjoyable, and will welcome his creative brand of depravity. If they don’t...well, that is just too bad for them. He enjoys the game of making others do what he wants almost as much as the end results, although once his patience is exhausted – his patience can be extensive, or it can be inexistent, it depends entirely on his mood - he will demand that they comply with his wishes. If they do not comply, he will make them comply or kill them. There is no middle line or third option with Garth – you either do what he wants, or you die. He does not care to think beyond this, indeed, he has never seen the need to. He cares nothing for society’s rules or desires: after all, they are not his. Rules restrict desires, and his desires are the sole purpose for Garth’s existence. His casual attitude to things that are considered horrific or disgusting almost always catches people off guard, which works to his advantage when facing down the authorities – being shot at is a real nuisance.
There is very little Garth has not tried for himself or inflicted upon others; morality is not something that appeals to him. It is for the common folk, those who lead and move with the flock of humankind: those whose sole purpose is to satisfy his desires and answer his every whim. He sees himself as more than they; he has moved beyond petty human restrictions and become something more as a result. He has seen the best and the worst that humanity has to offer, and is equally indifferent to both. As far as he is concerned, good and evil are determined by him and no-one else: his perspective is absolute, because it is the only one that matters. He answers to no higher power, and if one exists, he will deal with that when it interferes with his life – Garth is not a long-term thinker. He lives in the moment, rarely being able to remember past last week, and never planning beyond the next day.
Garth’s temper is explosive – if things do not go his way; he takes immediate steps to correct this, which usually involves messy dismembering of any unfortunate person in the nearby area, whether they be responsible for this or not. His rage is often blind, although its destructive force means that this rarely matters – the target of his ire needs to run very fast indeed to avoid it – but he is capable of focus if the situation demands it. However, Garth rarely encounters those that he cannot bend to his will with ease, so the situation rarely demands it.
All in all, Garth is entirely unpredictable. He allows his emotions and desires to control his actions, and these change more often than the direction the wind is blowing. He is capable of fitting into all social classes, yet often chooses to remain entirely apart from all of them. Despite having taken many lovers, he has no close friends or confidants, although invites the confidence of others unto himself – helping others can produce its own sort of satisfaction, although it is not one he finds himself in the mood for very often. He has a very, very long list of enemies, most of them major countries or associated with some sort of authority, be they criminal or otherwise, but cares nothing of any of them.
Weapon: Garth’s favoured weapons are two long-bladed hunting knives, which he carries within easy reach at his belt. He also carries two sidearms, the type used by the police force or the military of the country he is currently residing in, making it easier for him to acquire ammunition. Currently, he has two standard-issue M9 pistols.
Faction: None. Garth has no real interest in idea of factions – their power is unworthy of his notice, and unless they interfere, they are entirely irrelevant to him unless they can further his objectives.
Major Arcana (if any): The Devil
History:
Garth was born in a small, out-of-the-way village in Scotland. His mother was a teacher, and home-schooled Garth from the age of seven. His father was an unsuccessful businessman, and was often drunk as a result. Quite often he would hit the boy when he came home from work, as an outlet for his frustration. Garth grew up not fearing his father, but simply accepting that it was his right to take his anger out on him – although his mother said otherwise, which often earned her a beating, as well. She lived in a constant state of fear, he in a state of indifference and ignorance: knowing nothing else, he came to accept his father’s behaviour as the norm.
When Garth was fifteen, his father came home in a particularly bad state one evening, having lost a major client to a competitor and, as a result of the ensuing argument with his mother, she was beaten to death by him. This was Garth’s first true traumatic experience: he loved his mother dearly, she was the only source of affection in his life, and he much preferred her love to his father’s anger. He fled the house, hiding in the surrounding wilderness until darkness fell. When he was certain his father was asleep, he crept back into the house and stabbed him in the eye with a kitchen knife.
Uncertain of what to do next – he had had limited contact with other people, spending the majority of his life until this point shut away in his house – Garth decided to explore the outside world a little; after all, staying in the house with the corpses of his parents wouldn’t be much fun, and he would have a difficult time explaining things to the next person who called on them. From what little his mother had taught him, he knew that people tended to frown on murder, for some inexplicable reason which she had explained but he hadn’t really understood.
Garth then proceeded to strip the house of everything he had always wanted, and believed that he would need in order to survive. Inside his father’s wallet was an odd-looking card of a red-skinned humanlike creature, with the words “The Devil” inscribed underneath. He found the design alluring, and was intrigued that such a thing was amongst his father’s otherwise mediocre and bland possessions. Believing it to be a keepsake, or a representative of his father – his mother had taught him about creatures of evil such as this one, and from her perspective it would have suited his father perfectly – he took that as well. Satisfied, he left the house and the village.
Garth spent the next three years travelling the world, taking whatever he needed to survive or whatever he wanted – he was chased several times by the police, but as he was never caught, he continued to do as he wished: such was his right, he believed, as it was how his father had always behaved, and if he could act in such a manner, why could not Garth, the one who killed him? It gave him the right to do whatever he wished, until such time that someone killed him and took away that right.
Garth did not discover the power of his Arcana until he was nineteen, when he was attacked by a street gang after brutally beating one of their numbers for trying to mug him. The Devil manifested itself as Garth’s rage grew, and subsequently enabled him to butcher all of them. Following this, Garth grew far more bestial and confident, frequenting more active places, even being as bold as to rob places in broad daylight. His discretion, however, has prevented him from fully manifesting The Devil in broad daylight: after all, people can be killed just as easily with a simple shot to the head. Since that first time, Garth has only needed to unleash the full power of his Arcana three more times, although he has utilised small portions of its power more and more in his daily life so that he can gain that which he desires.
Since then, Garth has continued to travel where he wished, and taken what he wished. As he has grown older, his tastes have diversified and been refined, as has his control over the power of his Arcana. Taking a liking to Washington D.C., Garth has currently settled there, in a large, luxurious and expensive apartment near the middle of the city. He has acquired a reputation as a dangerous killer amongst the common folk, although his face is unknown – after all, he does not leave those who cross his path alive to tell about it – and his DNA cannot be traced; having grown up in a small, backwater village and been confined to his house, his existence has been written off by the authorities. He is wanted by several different authorities and crime syndicates, although as yet none have been able to confirm his identity: to all external appearances, he is a wealthy businessman (although exactly what business he is in is unclear) who spends more time out of his apartment than he does in it. It is one of the very few things that Garth actually pays for – it has a very nice view, and killing the entire hotel staff would attract the irritating authorities that are always present, no matter how many he kills – so it does not attract any suspicion.
After researching, his long-term objective – the first one he has ever had – is to acquire the other Major Arcana, so that he may have a complete set. It follows that, if there is a physical representation of the Devil, there is one of the others, as well. Death, Strength and The Emperor are of particular interest to Garth, although he has no idea where they may be, nor has he encountered any of the others. However, he has become aware of the existence of “factions” that also seek to acquire these forces...
