"The rooibos will be perfect, thank you. As for my magic going rogue...Normally I wouldn't tell people but you're helping me so I suppose you should know. The reason I'm here is because I killed my father, or at least I think I did, and destroyed the house in the process."
He paused for a moment to let it sink in. "He came home late one night to find me with this," he continued, pulling out the longsword from the sheath on his back and laying it in his lap. "He began yelling about putting an end to that part of his life. I assume he meant mother and me. Then he tried to kill me. All I can remember thinking is that I didn't want to die.
"Then it hit him. A column of magma incinerated him and blew a hole through the roof and splattered inside the house. At the same time spears of lightning struck the house on the outside on a clear day. The house began burning from the outside. It was only by the grace of a neighbor that I survived. That was when I discovered I had magic. And now, thinking back, I believe mother knew I did too."
He took a sip of the tea before continuing. "That is far from my normal magic, or at least from what I think in my normal magic. I tested it out myself in the months between the incident and my coming here. My magic doesn't work like that. Though I honestly can't tell. I have very little control being without any actual instruction and lack refinement. So far most of the knowledge I've gotten has come from this book and I only got it from the library yesterday.
"But based on the text what happened is what they call 'wild' magic. I'm afraid my magic will keep flaring up like that unless I learn to control it..."
