Do you use Cheats?

I use cheats sometimes. If I am really stuck and the guide I have doesn't help me, I will activate a cheat to get me past, then deactivate it again. I actually hate people that use cheats ALL THE TIME, just because it takes the fun out of the game.

I used to use cheats all the time (especially in my PS1 days), but now these days I just rather beat the game outright.

There are a couple conditions that must be met in the case that i actually cheat...

1.)I have beaten the game the first time through without cheating.
2.)I have been stuck on a particular part for some ridiculous amount of time and i have to cheat to get past it...

I don't use them only because I have no clue on how to use them. I tried to use them once but I didn't understand them at all. Plus, I think it's better to just enjoy the game the normal way.XD

I was wondering how many people use cheats and how do you feel about them? Me myself can't stand them, and I have friends who claim they beat games, but find out they use a shit load of cheats to beat the game, it actually aggravates me that they'd actually brag out beating a game they had to cheat to beat.

Why does it matter that people use cheats?

What is the point of a video game?
To have fun.

People have fun in different ways.

The only time I would be 'aggravated' by someone using cheats is 'hacking' during online play. Then the hacker enjoys himself at the expense of many of the online players.

I used to when I was younger, but now I don't ever use cheats. Part of the reason for this is that cheats aren't seen as often as they used to be, probably because of achievements and such, or maybe the fact that games are pretty damn easy.

Also, I don't consider hacking online to be "cheating". I save "cheating" for the single-player modes, and then "hacking" or "glitching" for the people online. Just something I do. And I would like to mention that I never have hacked or glitched online, when it caused other people to be pissed off. Goofing off with my friends I have, but never in ranked online matches.

I used to have a GS code for Cloud that made his jump suit sparkle on the world map and in towns. I generally just use codes to have fun after I beat a game or if I'm bored and don't save. :P Though I have gone through the game with Cloud having the Masamune. Also, Young Cloud has better stats then the adult one. and I mean insanely better as in by level 10 he had 50 str. Though once you get Cait Sith you can't use him since he over laps Young Cloud and Young Cloud starts every battle dead and with not even appearing.

I have mixed views.

I used to use cheats a lot, and by a lot I mean I would look up the cheats for a game before I had even bought it.
I used them so often that some of my games used to freeze up and give me errors. I lost some good games that way so I stopped using them as much.

They can also be great fun. I remember pissing myself laughing with my mates on GTA San Andreas when we used a cheat to get a jet pack.

Overall, I would say I sway to the side of disliking them. I'd rather have the fun of silly perks etc by earning them.

I sometimes use cheats, but only if I have beaten the game, and I want to pwn my enemies to a very high level :wacky:.

When i use them, its only to play out my sick, and twisted desires to overrule them in any ways. So yeah, I use cheats only to fill my twisted fantasies of torture and suffering :ryan:

I agree with this. As long as there are no people having their fun taken away, a person's free to do what they please with their gaming. Now if you were talking about a gamer's pride, then yes, using cheats and bragging about beating the game is just silly:randompoke:

I'll be honest, I used to use them quite a lot. Things like, the Sims, Spyro the Dragon and Grand Theft Auto. I've never used a cheat to help me get through the game, but I have for fun. Coloring Spyro pink, using flying cars or making them invisible in GTA, and having unlimited simoleons in the Sims.

I've learned that it is much more satisfying when you get through the game on your own. I rarely use them anymore, but if I get bored in GTA, I'll use cheats for a while. I don't really play online, so I've never had experience with using online cheats. I would assume it would be annoying to play against someone who was cheating.

The only game I ever cheat in is the Grand Theft Auto series. I don't play it very often, but when I play I prefer to wreak havoc with my bazooka instead of doing some lame missions. GTA is the only game I prefer to play with cheat instead of without them.

Besides that, I only use cheats if I got stuck in a game. For example, in Morrowind there where quite some bugs that prevented you from continuing the game, so I used command lines to bring back a person or add a lost item to my inventory.

I prefer to beat games without cheats, it gives more satisfaction. :)

I find that I'm half and half.

Sometimes I would use cheats for certain games all the time, but for other games I wouldn't bother because they were far too easy to even think of looking up cheats.

I do like a challenge, but I also get impatient. So when it gets to the point in which I'm getting frustrated, I go and look up the cheats.

It's not something I do all the time, but I do, do it.

Nope. Only time i do is after i finish the game. Cheating often lockes achievements, so i don't cheat. I do read guides sometimes when im stuck. Does that count as cheating?

Only console i do cheat on is DS for some of the games (EG: metal slug 7. Damn game is hard).

I cheat on my DS when I get bored. Say, on Pokemon, I want to find something that just never appears, I might whip out my Action Replay and make it so that I find it, or I might want to test a team build out, so I make it through Pokesav instead of wasting my life painfully breeding then EV training them.
Generally, I prefer to complete games before I cheat on them, and if I do cheat before I finish them, I don't usually save.

When I played stuff like Tekken, Tomb Raider, etc I used the odd cheat. But I dont bother now.

I cant cheat on an RPG, kinda takes the fun outta it. But stuff like Tomb Raider drove me mad. Loved the blowing Lara up cheat XD

I only use cheats when Im passing by memory lane, playing all the old school classics, usually just Level Selects

I don't really use cheats unless I've already played through the game and then decide to do it. To me, I use more like walkthroughs which is different from cheats. The only thing I recall using cheats for was when I couldn't get all the dresspheres in X-2 (cos I couldn't beat Shinra) :ryan:

I only really cheat on games like GTA because there it can add something too the game. Me and my friend even had a contest on san andreas to see how long we could swerve in and out of trees without hitting them, using the lying car cheat.

I never usually use them to complete a game unless I have A) allready completed it, or B) cannot be bothered to try and beat the game because I've tried so many times that it's starting to get on my nerves.

I do however read walkthroughs. I have a few official strategy guides for games like FFX ten and Jade empire, I even think I own one for N3: ninety Nine nights, even though I don't own the game (it cost 99p and is about 1cm thick if that) and on some games I just read the walkthroughs for certain parts, i.e. in resi zero I read a guide were I was told that I had sent the wrong character up a random hole in a church, so now i had to backtrack to some obscure part of the game so I could sort the mess out.... wtf >:(

anywho needles rant over now, I dissagree with cheats usually but I think that every gamer has the right to use them if they want too. I think paying for them is stupid though
*cough*action reply*cough*
