A lot of careless people think that all you have to do is feed the dog and that's that.

Um, no, they need vaccinations, play time, exercise etc etc.

It really annoys me to see people who get pets and then give them away as if they're nothing because their "lifestyle changes".

I see so many pets on those adopt a pet, RSPCA, Council and Gumtree websites just waiting for a new home because their dick of an owner can't be bothered with them anymore or didn't realise the responsibility of keeping a pet.

Do you just give your kid away when you've had enough?

It annoys me, because I love animals, and I have never owned one simply because my living arrangements would have meant I would possibly have to give it away due to renting etc.

So I've been waiting until I get my own house because I know that should never be the case when that day comes.
 
I love my dogs. They're like my babies and I don't care how 'crazy dog woman' that sounds. They make me laugh and I can't imagine just leaving them there without playing with them or taking care of them. They've got proper little personalities and everything.

People who buy pets and then give them away to the RSPCA simply because they're too lazy to take care of them any more make me sick. It's not hard to feed and pet a dog every day. I kinda understand though if the persons old and just can't physically look after the pet anymore but other than that there is really no excuse.
 
I agree. Having a pet is very similar to having a child and they really should be treated as your child. If you can't even raise a child then you shouldn't raise a pet. I've had my dog, who is my first one mind you, for about... 4 or 5 years now I believe. While he may be a pain in the butt sometimes I do love him. I know I will be sad when he eventually dies. :sad3: As for taking care of him my family usually alternates with him. I usually walk him and feed him.
 
There are alot of people out there that shouldnt be allowed pets. I think they should bring back licnecing for dogs as well. There's no such thing as a bad dog, it's a bad owner

I love my furbabies like they were my real babies, becasue they ARE. had to take velcro to the vets last week as she had a bit of blood in her poo, turns out it was nothing serious, but it could of been. I can imagine some poeple not bothering, 'due to the cost' which is a ridiculous excuse. Having pets isnt cheap and if you choose to have them, then it's your responsibilty to make sure they are healthy, warm and well fed. I don't know why people think its ok to leave cats out all day every day as well. They come from warmer countries, and over here its freezing 90% of the time, I always want to take the kitties home that are outside in the rain or the snow ): It's all good and well allowing them out, but they need to be in when its cold and wet. Or maybe Im just a soft arse... i know some breeds are indoor cats though, you CAN'T let them out. We have a ragdoll and they are abit stupid so aren't supposed to go out side.

I think if you have a dog as well, you have even more of a responsibilty, if you cant be bothered to pick its shit up up when you are out then you shouldn't have one. that winds me the fuck right up. And they need to be trained, they want to be trained especially if you have a 'working' dog, collies etc, if they dont get that stimulation thats when you end up with frustrated doggies that want to eat your house.

And what REALLY winds me up at the moment is this fad with toy dogs. Just because the celebs are carrying them all around in hand bags, now everyone wants one. They aren't accessories they are living things that need taking care of!
 
@Bambi I was also thinking about having licences for pets on my way to pick up Steve tonight.

You have a licence for a car, then you should also have a licence to have kids, pets etc.

They make you get a licence to ensure you're responsible enough to be on the roads.

Erm how about a licence for having kids and pets as your responsibilities are so much more in depth than knowing how to drive a car.

You're in control of a life and should know what the hell you're doing!
 
I've never had my own pets, they've always been family one's buyt the first thing I want to do when I get my own place here this year and out of the military is get my own dog. I have one back home at my parents' house right now that is on his last days from what they tell me and it seems like he's holding out just long enough to see me come home for good. I've had him almost 10 years now and cant imagine him not around. I love taking care of my pets.

I've had a good share of pets in my life: from the typical dogs and cats to fish, birds, iguanas, hamsters, turtles, a rabbit, etc. I'd like to say that I've taken good care of most of them, but death sort of happens. :/

I think the worst death to happen was with my 10 year old Pit Bull/German Shephard mix, Arcanine. He developed a tumor in his throat and something else in his stomach... It was actually very heartbreaking to see him in pain day after day, so eventually we had to put him down. I will never have another dog quite like him honestly. Dogs really do have unique personalities and he really cared for and protected my family. R.I.P. Arcanine. ;__;

Right now, I have one Dachshund (Mocha), two ferrets (Cinnamon & Cocoa), and my wonderful cat Mika, who joined our family sometime last Summer. I love my other pets as well, but I absolutely love Mika<3 She really is like a baby to me. x3

I agree that certain people are simply not responsible enough to have pets. Sometimes I get a little lazy when taking care of my ferrets because I'm afraid to let them out of their cage - the cat and them don't get along very much. ^^; But to compensate for that, I recently bought them a 5ft cage to roam around in. At least I'm trying... ;__;

Also, I recently started walking my cat! It's a little too cold at the moment, but she's getting used to the idea I think. So now Mocha (the dog) has a little company during her walk. ;D
 
ive been trying to get the new kitty to walk on a led lol shes alright in the house, but got her to the vets, which is at the other end of a pet store and she was climbing in/on/over everything, so ended up having to carry her lol
 
When my sister was way younger, she had a few rabbits she would be allowed to keep in a rabbit's cage out-back of our house. She absolutely loved them, but she was also like 10 years old at the time so the proper care for them wasn't always given while she got side-tracked.

I remember one time she came in during the early Autumn and told mom that the rabbit had frozen to death. We went outside and sure as heck the bunny was frozen solid like a block of ice. So that was her last rabbit and I think now that she has 3 young kids she's going to try it again and teach them the proper way to care for and raise bunnies.
 
I love my cat like family :ryan: Unfortunately I'm at uni so a) my accommodation won't let me keep pets and b) I'm back at my parent's for a good 5 months out of 12 so my parents are looking after him for now. But he'll still be alive when I graduate so I'll take him with me then once I'm moved and settled.
He's got a kidney problem that pretty much means he has to have special food or he'll die. I could imagine lots of people not bothering or giving him up as the food is reaaaally expensive but me and my parents kept him because he's my baby :sad3: he's the first cat we've had that is actually mine. We have another one but he belongs to my mum.
He's also an indoor cat as we live on a main road and 2 of our old cats died by being hit by cars on it. So he needs playing with quite a bit to keep him active as well, which we all do.

I miss my cat :sad3: only a week till I'm home and I can see him.
 
I think the biggest thing about pets that bugs me is when owners get them, love them like crazy when they are young and brand-new, but as they get older, the owners seem to brush them off and pay less attention to them like they have no time for them.

Dogs for example. Even as they're older they want to be around their owners, show them love, play with them to kinda keep themself young. I see many times owners just kinda brushing their dogs away telling them to "go lay down" or "go away". Place them outside with no one to play with when all they wanna do is just be involved. My biggest animal pet-peeve.
 
when we had cats yes. they were pampered little shits.

i dont think anyone is going to confess to harming their pets on the finaru fantaji forum though.
 
I like to think I took care of them, but my track record with them says something else. My first pet goldfish died I believe the day after we bought it. Reason being we fed it too much food that night. Keep in mind I was 3 and had no idea what the fuck I was doing. XD

My hamster I had for..... 5 months before it went on a rampage and tried to bite everything in sight. Reason for his death was neglect and insanity due to neglect. We had to bag him and freeze him in the backyard snow. He was buried the next day.

I guess we could also be blamed for the deaths of my grandparents 3 former dogs. Though, we weren't there when the last one died.

Anyway, all these deaths were unintentional and made me very sad. I thought I was taking good care of them, but I guess not. :(
 
:hmph: today my two angel fish died because I cleaned their tank....that is what I get for taking care of fish :rage: you make their home nice and shiny and fresh and they go and die on you!!!!!!!! Fish are the hardest pets to look after I swear. They're so delicate :|
 
I do not take care of my pets. I let them die, then I put their rotting bodies into my bed. That way when I bing a lady home I will know if she is a keeper if she agrees to have sex with me in my bed full of decomposing animals. Also if she does not get sick when she gets dog spleen in her hair then that is a positive.

Yes I take care of my pets because I am not a cunt.
 
I love my pets and am fully dedicated to both their physical and emotional needs. Unfortunately I am in the difficult situation of wanting to move away to another city, and the fact that I have pets means that I have to be cautious and wait until I can find a place that will accommodate pets or I'll have to give them away (which I could never do). A person who cared less would simply treat them as obstacles and give them to the shelter, but I'd rather sit in this one horse town I'm in and wait it out than ditch my precious pets so I can move away. I simply cannot imagine the amount of regret I'd feel if I gave my pets away and moved, only for it to not be all I expected and find myself sitting alone in a crappy little flat saying "I gave up my pets for this?"
So yeah, that's a big concern for me at the moment...and people don't sympathize with it at all. They look at me funny and say, "Well just give them away" - seriously?? As if it's that easy!
