I was listening to this song yesterday, and I just instantly connected it to Final Fantasy 10. If you haven't heard the song yet, its about how this guy's insomnia causes him to think about life. But, this meaning can be connected to Final Fantasy 10. Read on for more..

You Would Not Believe Your Eyes
If Ten Million Fireflies
Light Up The World As I Fell Asleep

This possibly means that when the Fayth fall asleep, the world lights up with ten million fireflies, or pyreflies in this case, due to Sin being destroyed.

Cause They Fill The Open Air
And Leave Teardrops Everywhere
You'd Think me Rude
But I Would Just Stand And stare

The sight of all these pyreflies were magnificent in the game, so you would sit and stare. However, And Leave Teardrops Everywhere could mean how Tidus and Yuna were sad to leave each other, and how they cried, hence the teardrops everywhere.

I'd Like To make Myself Believe That Planet earth Turns Slowly
It's Hard To Say That I'd Rather Stay Awake When I'm Asleep
Cause Everything Is Never As It Seems

The first line, I'd Like To make Myself Believe That Planet earth Turns Slowly, might indicate Tidus's unwillingness to believe Zanarkand was destroyed until he saw it with his own eyes, or that he could go back to Zanarkand.

The second line might indicate Tidus would like to stay awake while hes asleep, since he is a dream, and if the Fayth awaken, he disappears.

The third line of the chorus could indicate alot of things.
1. Yevon is a corrupt religion.
2. Yuna must die to kill sin.
3. Tidus doesn't actually exist.
4. Auron has been dead all along.
5. Jecht, Tidus' dad, is Sin.
Pretty much all plot twists.

Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs
From Ten Thousand Lightning Bugs

These lines alude to Tidus, being made up of lightning bugs, or pyreflies, hugging Yuna, in the making out scene.

As They Tried To Teach Me How To Dance
A Foxtrot Above My head
A Sockhop Beneath My Bed

This line alludes to the pyreflies being sent to the Farplane by Yuna, at Kilika. In a way, they taught her to "dance", as Tidus puts it. The Above My Head, Beneath My Bed means the pyreflies were all around her while she was sending.

A Disco Ball Is Just hanging By A thread

I can't really think of how. The only way I can connect it was Yevon's unity was just hanging by a thread, and Tidus and party destroyed that.

(Insert chorus)

When I Fall Asleep
Leave My Door Open Just A crack
(Please Take Me Away From Here)

These lines alude to Tidus's childish behavior in the beginning of the game, and how he just wanted to go back to Zanarkand.

Cause I Feel Like Such An Insomniac
(Please Take Me Away From Here)
Why Do I Tire Of Counting Sheep
(Please Take Me Away From Here)
When I'm far Too Tired To Fall Asleep

I really can't connect these lines to Final Fantasy 10. Any ideas would be happily accepted.

To Ten Million Fireflies
I'm Weird Cause I Hate Goodbyes
I Got Misty Eyes As They Said Farewell

These lines tell, again, how Tidus said farewell and Yuna cried.

But I'll Know Where Several Are
If My Dreams Get Real Bizzare
Cause I Saved A Few And I Keep Them In A Jar

The first two lines talk about the Farplane, and how in X-2, things start to get Bizzare, and thats where the final battle is.

The third line talk about how she had the memories of Tidus, and the whistle they both knew, which would reunite them.

(Insert chorus three times)
Because My Dreams Are Bursting At The Seams

There are alot of Fayth when they awaken, which kinda connects with this line.

Well, thats it. Have fun.

Another post(er) says:

Cause I Feel Like Such An Insomniac
(Please Take Me Away From Here)
Why Do I Tire Of Counting Sheep
(Please Take Me Away From Here)
When I'm far Too Tired To Fall Asleep

I feel these lines could be that Tidus, at the beginning of the game, just wants to go home, and wake up from his 'dream'.

Do you think he worte this song as a tribute or something? Post opinions etc. please.

Fun and interesting connections, but I don't at all see this as some type of tribute. Even in the eyes of the initial poster, certain lines strain to be connected. And in a larger aspect, none of the verses or sections seem to flow together very well. Fun though.

If it counts for anything, I also fail to see a real romantic connection in this song as well.
--

I think the most interesting part is actually that insomnia bit.

Some believe that, at some point, individuals without sleep may not actually be "there" consciously or mentally. So the idea of Tidus' insomnia could actually speak for the fact that he's both "there" and not, in a sense.

Also, anyone whose seen Fight Club will have seen the whole concept of an insomniac "waking up" elsewhere as a different person. Likewise, Tidus was initially believed to have come from a life in Zanarkand to Spira upon waking up, where he was then perceived as someone entirely different than in the life he thought he lived.

Or

it could connect in that Tidus was a "dream". So his presence in Spira was actually like one lengthy experience of being awake, and that he initially sought to go home.

And hear I was hoping you'd say that both FFX and Fireflies were both utter disappointments, connecting them in bland mediocrity. Regardless, this idea that Owl City would make a tribute to this game sounds completely looney. I could probably work out that this is a tribute to Jurassic Park if I stretched the meaning of those lyrics as much as the original poster did. If nothing else we should at least assume that Adam Young would TELL us if the meaning of the song had to do with a video game than the romantic tripe 99% percent of his fans make it out to be.

This.

Also...

"The first line, I'd Like To make Myself Believe That Planet earth Turns Slowly, might indicate Tidus's unwillingness to believe Zanarkand was destroyed until he saw it with his own eyes, or that he could go back to Zanarkand."

Eh? That doesn't seem to mean that at all. It seems like the poster is putting a great deal of effort to make the 2 connect.

The Tidus/Yuna story is a love story and with so any generic love songs out there, one is bound to loosely fit.

^ I'm glad I'm not the only one who was befuddled by that, as I thought that maybe it was poor interpretation or comprehension on my part. A lot of these "explanations" left me asking myself, "Wait...what?"

Owl City dedicating a song to Final Fantasy? I think someone is looking into this a bit too much.

To Ten Million Fireflies
I'm Weird Cause I Hate Goodbyes

I Got Misty Eyes As They Said Farewell

Tidus didn't hate their goodbye. He forced it. And... he was saying goodbye to Yuna, not pyreflies. As for Yuna crying, if we're going to try to connect the lyrics, we can't keep switching the point of view around.

I'd Like To Make Myself Believe That Planet Earth Turns Slowly
It's Hard To Say That I'd Rather Stay Awake When I'm Asleep

Cause Everything Is Never As It Seems

I don't think Zanarkand would have anything to do with the Earth "turning slowly"... at all. Like was said, it seems like they're just trying to make these lyrics fit any way they can.

Because My Dreams Are Bursting At The Seams

"There are alot of Fayth when they awaken, which kinda connects with this line."

What?

Yeah, this sums it up.

I think that the connection between the song and the game is a very unique connection. Especially the pyreflies/fireflies thing. Kind of gives the game a new perspective.

A song can make you think of just about anything. That's one of the awesome things about music. But I don't think there's an actual connection. These are all a stretch at best.

The band's name does make me think of FFVIII, Timber, and the Forest Owls, however. Maybe that's just me.

It's a neat thing but it's hard for me to picture it being connect the two though. And as others said, I think it was a bit forced as far as the person trying to connected but whoever thought of it has a great imagination :wacky: I always thought he was high/drunk when he wrote it cos it made absolutely no sense to me...(the lyrics) :wacky: and some of the things the person has said makes me a bit confused. still thought it was neat in a way though. :griin:

^ I agree !

But in all honesty I would love to believe that there was a connection. It's a shame that it's so unlikley.

I think however that it would make a good music video, if you included lots of scenes with pyreflies

I listen to that song quite often and have never stumbled upon something like that. I can see some connections now that I think about it.:gasp:

i agree some i can see how they can connect to FF10 but others you may be looking into it far to much

Um I thought they were called pyreflies?......
hmph it must have been a while
Nuh, you're right.

I agree with most people here in saying that there is no connection. Firstly the guy seems to be trying force a connection between some of the lyrics to FFX.

The first line, I'd Like To make Myself Believe That Planet earth Turns Slowly, might indicate Tidus's unwillingness to believe Zanarkand was destroyed until he saw it with his own eyes, or that he could go back to Zanarkand.
Things like that are really a stretch.

Secondly, even the lines which seem to easily connect with FFX are just a coincidence.

Really the song could be referring to anything.

But ultimately regardless of whether Owl City wrote the song about FFX or not, it's all about how you interpret it and the meaning that you derive from it as a listener. While I don't think it was written with FFX in mind, if someone does then more power to them. That's the beauty of music baby.

In all honesty I think the song sounds like it was written by some dazy douchebag while he was playing around with a synth, which makes me kinda embarrassed to admit that I think it's catchy.

I have to admit when I heard the song a few times I thought "This should be in FFX" to me it just sounded like the game and alls I could think of was FFX whenever I heard it on the radio But unless the artist states it was made in honour of the game I doubt it is. In actuality anyone can link about any song to anything if they try hard enough.

I think that this is one of the biggest wastes of time for a person, ever. To have sat and analysed the song, just to plug in and repeat the "Tidus is a dream" concept to every mention of sleep or fireflies is just...well, it's a new breed of fanboyism. Hope it's shortlived. Then again, why don't I give it a bash!?

I want your love and I want your revenge
Could indicate that Yuna wants Tidus's love and feels betrayed by Yevon

You and me could write a bad romance
Could indicate that Yuna feels that Tidus would not make a good boyfriend. Or that she feels like her duty would prevent it from being a good romance.

Rah rah rah ahh ahhhhh
Could be a reference to the laughing scene where Yuna vents frustration.

Hopefully I've made my point clear. :wacky:

Spot on, spot on.

its like all the conspiracies, you can stretch anything to make it sound like something else.
