So I used to be pretty good with topping up my fuel tank before it got too low.

Then one day I just started to hate the thought of spending my money if I absolutely didn't have to, so I would stretch it out until I absolutely had to go to the fuel station. >.<

Steve always tells me I should fill up when there's about 3 quarters left but I just get lazy and don't want to fork out money straight away.

Is anyone else like this?
 
I'm like this, I hate wasting money on petrol because it's pretty fucking expensive here :|
I'll drive my car until the red petrol light comes on and then I'll continue to drive it until I start to get worried about just how much time I have left before it runs dry. I think the idea of getting stuck in the middle of the road with no petrol scares me more than the money I need to spend to actually put some in the car so I eventually go and do it...but I'm not happy about it :hmph:

I never fill my cars tank up all the way though otherwise it would be like $70 and there's no way I'm spending that much money :dry:
 
Same here, I basically let the gas tank go almost to Empty before I put in like.. $20 :rofl: now days it wont even get my tank half full anymore :sad3:

Man I remember when people in America were bitching about $1.80 a gallon... where are those days...
 
I remember the year before I got my licence the petrol prices were like 70cents a litre. The next year when I got my licence it went up to around 90cents and every year after that it's just been increasing.

$1.35-$1.40 is good these days.

It's getting up to $1.60 and over now though. It's ridiculous!

Luckily I have a small 3 cylinder car with a 1.0L fuel tank. I can fill my car up for just under $40. It would have been only $20 for a full tank a few yeas ago. :sad3:
 
i can't really see the point in keeping it above the three quarter mark. you put petrol in so you can use the car, why bother being conservative like that and worrying about using what's there?
 
I normally get down to a quarter of the tank and then put in about £30 (which is enough to fill about half a tank around by me). Last time though, I let it go all the way down and the light came on. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that :lew:
 
Eh, I really dont have a rule for this or anything, but I usually wait til it's about 40 miles from empty before I fill it up, and when I do I always fill it. I hardly ever only put in like $20 or so. I just top it off unless I know gas is going down in price soon.

Thank God for a Honda Civic that only needs filled once every 2 weeks!
 
i drive on fumes, but get bollocked for not filling up when the petrol light comes on, I don't see the point in filling it all the way up either, its only making the car heavier and wasting fuel!

My Dad is pretty cheap with this. We'll be in the middle of nowhere on fucking E and he'll insist that everything is fine and that we can make it back home or whatever. Then, when he does fill it up, he'll put like, 10 dollars worth into the car. I think we've only had the car completely full twice. Crazy stuff.

I'm probably gonna get the weird stares from people when I'm worried about my car, and there's still over half remaining. I don't like to take chances. I guess my excuse is "it's better to be safe than sorry". But in actuality, I'm just a psycho.
 
I always wait until it's 1/4 full since that means fewer trips, less fuel used and less wear and tear on the car from driving it to the petrol station. ;) The car also weighs less with less fuel in, so it's always worth letting it get to 1/4. :)

I always fill it completely, again to avoid driving to the petrol station all the time. I tend to get through a tank in one week at the moment. :sad3: Filling the tank costs me between £45 and £50. It's expensive, but spending a set amount seems pointless to me because I am not able to drive less and, consequently, I won't spend any less. I will just end up spending money more often! ;)

I'm the same way actually on both statements. I used to wait until it's at 1/2 full but I will admit I got lazy. :wacky: Now I just wait until it's at 1/4. Usually I will fill it up completely unless I am really short on funds. In that case I will always put $20 on there minimum. To fill up it usually costs me about $40 but thankfully, assuming I don't take anyone home or make any long trips, I only have to get fuel maybe once every 3 weeks or so.
 
I usually fill up once a week. I don't really go anywhere too much since I've been out of work my car really doesn't need it too much, I just fill it up to keep gas going through it. When I was working I'd fill up once a week and the worst I'd let it get is a little less than a half of a tank. To me it just doesn't make sense to go when a car doesn't need to be completely filled, otherwise you are wasting gas just going to the pump. My car does really well on mpg for a midsize though. To fill it it's like $65 and it gets 33 miles to a gallon highway. My car gets the same highway mileage as my roomie's compact or subcompact Cobalt :wacky:
