Next month, “the biggest game in the world returns,” according to the ‘next issue’ page in the latest Official PlayStation Magazine UK. Our only hint as to what it is? A huge “3″ in the center of the page.
I think it’s safe to say this is inevitable reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but as always, we can’t be sure until it’s announced.

Thanks, PushSquare.

Rumor – Modern Warfare 3 reveal in OPM next month

Official PlayStation Magazine UK is teasing a reveal for its Junes 8 issue, and it looks as though it could be Modern Warfare 3.

worldatwar.jpg

The ad posted on PushSquare says: “The biggest game in the world returns,” along with a rather large, and green number 3 plastered on the page.
A June reveal would be about right, because that seems to be the magic month for Call of Duty reveals.
We heard rumblings yesterday that Activision was to announce something CoD-related in New York last night, and Rock, Paper, Shotgun had heard that the firm was poised to announce Call of Duty Online.
Rumors over an online version of the shooter have been running rampant in for what seems like ages.
Speculation reached a higher pitch when during Activision’s last call to investors, it announced the formation of Beachhead Studios, and the sole purpose of the team is to create new digital content for the Call of Duty series. The creation of this “all-new digital platform” for the CoD franchise would come complete with a suite of online services to “super charge the online experience,” while “integrating online and console together for the first time.”
The Beachhead project has been in development for over a year, and more information on the studio along with content and services plans is expected to be announced sometime or another.
Last night, RPS heard that the new announcement could be Activision’s bid to go up against EA’s Battlefield Play4free, but was unsure if the Activision offering would be browser-based or not.
So, with the latest rumor from OPM, it looks like we can expect two possible announcements from the firm soon. Fingers crossed.
Thanks, AHA-Lambada.

Sources who’ve seen the next ‘Call of Duty’ claim it continues the story of ‘Modern Warfare 2′ and offers larger scale maps with destructible environments.

Modern-Warfare-3-Destructible-Environments.jpg

After all the hype and reports of announcements regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and a potential major announcement regarding it or Call of Duty online yesterday during the Activision Blizzard first quarter conference call, we ended up hearing nothing new. Instead, we’re told that we’ll see the next Call of Duty in the coming weeks which translates to a big Activision presentation at E3.

It is one of the biggest game franchises ever though, so we couldn’t let a day go by without a new news item or rumor. The latest insider info explains that the next game is in fact Modern Warfare 3 (not Project Colossus) which will feature larger scale maps and battles, finally introducing destructible environments.

Kotaku has the scoop from sources who’ve seen Modern Warfare 3 in action. They explain that the game picks up from where Modern Warfare 2 left off, after the attack on U.S. soil but that it won’t be like Homefront. Much of the game will feature an urban setting with tanks and other vehicles traversing civilian streets and the story may set the foundation or hint at a World War III type scenario.

The game will see the return of Modern Warfare staple characters Captain “Soap” MacTavish and Captain Price but more excitingly, will add destructible environments, ones that are on a much larger scale than the previous installments.

Destructible environments and vehicles are something the Battlefield series has held over Call of Duty for some time, but what does that mean for its main selling point: the multiplayer? Will there be drivable vehicles on large-scale maps for the first time in the series?

While it’s good to see Infinity Ward, with the help of Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, working to continue/conclude the Modern Warfare series, the question becomes whether or not what they’re doing with Modern Warfare 3 is enough to not only take a large leap forward from the last few games in the series, but to compete with Battlefield 3 which already features these things but with a new game engine and better graphics?

As good as the Modern Warfare titles were, notably for their multiplayer, the narrative story told through the single player campaign suffered through awkward loading screens which acted as explanation of current events and briefings for the missions. Hopefully, Modern Warfare 3 does away with that and offers an in-game substitue so players can get into a compelling story rather than just a fast-paced shooter.

Expect more soon in just a matter of weeks.

Update

Logos and box cover art have surfaced for ‘Modern Warfare 3′ and ‘Call of Duty Elite’ and they certainly look real.

Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-3-Logos-and-Box-Art.jpg

During the Activision Blizzard first quarter conference call on Monday, little to no news of significance was revealed about the next Call of Duty. We know it’s coming and we know Infinity Ward is working hard to have it done for this fall, but we have to wait until E3 next month for the actual reveal and official confirmation.

Until then, the internet will be subject to countless rumors and speculation which began yesterday with a report indicating that the next game will definitely be a continuation of IW’s last game and will be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, reportedly adding larger-scale battles and destructible environments. Today we have what may be the Modern Warfare 3 cover art along with a neat logo for Call of Duty Elite.

We’re rather confident that the next game from Activision and Infinity Ward is certainly Modern Warfare 3 and this box art for the PC version of the game sent to Kotaku looks legit. We also have logos for Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty Elite, the latter of which is something we’ve not heard of until today.

It’s possible that Elite is the new Call of Duty online service Activision has been talking about, potentially a subscription service which offers more to the hardcore CoD players. The only thing we can say for certain is that Activision will be pushing the envelope for online functionality with the franchise and this may be the beginning of that. Take a look at the logos and artwork:

What are your thoughts on the new logo design and more importantly, your predictions on what Call of Duty Elite is?
Call of Duty Elite might be the digital platform Activision’s Beachhead has been working on for two years, the one that will open the gates to an “unprecedented online universe” as CEO Eric Hirshberg put it. Or perhaps its the PC-centric competitor to Battlefield Play4Free (Call of Duty Online?).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to release on all major platforms on November 8, 2011.

November 8th 2011 for Modern Warfare III? For one I did not play Black ops much and I got bored of it pretty quickly. I usually just hit The max level and never prestige but in Black ops I did and it appeared to be boring. Modern Warfare III is coming out November 8th... Call of Duty games never cease to amuse me with release dates. It is like I buy the games for nothing when another one comes out so fast :gasp:! It is going to be competing with hugely anticipated games like Battlefield III and Uncharted III. Also I want to see what happens in the campaign more than play the multiplayer. I find the Multiplayer of CoD in general is a waste of time to get max level because now people will want Max level in this one. I can only see where this is going to go. If it is taking the Battlefield vibe with vehicles then.... it is essentially battlefield.. :hmmm:

Rumor: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Perks, Weapons & Maps Leaked

Video game testing is a pretty big thing these days due to the amount of content in games and the expectations from consumers. We were contacted by an anonymous tipster who was supposedly alpha testing Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and we were able to have a brief discussion with him.

With a reveal which will hopefully come soon a lot of you may be wondering what kind of features MW3 could offer. Our source was very brief with some of the information and we only managed to get some key details to what people may find important in Modern Warfare 3. Perks, Maps & Guns where revealed during our discussion which he made clear multiple times that some details may change through out development. Our source mentioned 5 perks that were available during testing which were Scavenger, Revelations, Pointblank, lifeline & Sleight of Hand. Two of these you may be familiar with but unfortunately he only gave me a description of Pointblank & Lifeline. Pointblank is a perk which makes makes your "reticle smaller" as he described it is "Cheating in plain sight" and "Helps you hit the head", a perk that makes you more accurate at gaining head shots. Not much was shed on the perk "Lifeline" but to my understanding it is something along the lines of stopping power pro.

According to our source his weapons of choice were the Vector, Colt 45 & Pacer 56. The Pacer 56 doesn't exist, at the time I started to question the truth behind his story and he had this to say about it "It's suppose to be a new weapon imported if a new war started". Apparently, only one map was available during testing titled "Detour" which he made comparisons to Hotel in Black Ops. The pacing in Modern Warfare 3 was described as "Faster than MW2" and a apparent cover system exist in the game "Oh yeah, your suppose to be able to hold on to cover".

Pointblank? Pacer 56? Cover system? Map called "Detour"? More fast paced than Modern Warfare 2? A whole lot of new things from this interview whether or not it's real we can't confirm. But it seems that, if even SOME of these items are true the next Call Of Duty could be a bit of a twist to the franchise, especially with that cover system.

UPDATE: As previously reported , 5 perks were available in testing but it turns out that Scavenger and Revelations are the same thing. According to our source Scavenger has been renamed to Revelations. Also our source was involved in one of the first test of MW3, so yes this information is subject to change come launch.

lol I will definitely play Battlefield 3 purely for story ,but the MP is not my style...hiding in vehicles and blasting with tanks is not me style.. I couldnt care for vehicles ...

I wish MW was more realistic as in more blood and realistic gunshot wounds and damage on surroundings etc. but alas.......

I would miss zombie mode too from mw3 ..shit nazi zombie's storyline is so epic it should get its own game.

I wish MW was more realistic as in more blood and realistic gunshot wounds and damage on surroundings etc. but alas.......

That's one of the main things that irked me about the series. If you get blasted by a sniper or shotgun it's gonna ruin you and leave a large splatter of blood behind you. The game's combat isn't as impactful as I like my combat :mokken: But yeah other than that I'm kinda excited about MW3, if I decide to get it I'll most likely get it on PS3 when I have the money to actually get one :wacky:

Get the ps3 Tom :rage: ...:mokken:

Ooooh I'm glad I visited this thread...a new Cod :inlove:

I've yet to get my hands on BO...and I have Modern Warfare 2 for my ps3 that I haven't even gotten around to playing...but if Modern Warfare 3 is getting released this year I will probably buy it.

It seems like the online for these games is fairly engrossing...and while I've never been really keen with the storylines for these games the gameplay itself is fun.

Yeah, FPSs don't really have storylines. The thing about it continuing the storyline from MW2 amused me slightly as MW2 doesn't particularly have a plot. Though to be fair MW did have quite a decent story, especially for a FPS.

The German said:

I don't want it to have damage to surroundings, because towards the end of a match it will be too open and you'll get killed and kill rather quickly. Nor do I want particularly realistic gunshot wounds and shit like that, gore for gore's sake is pointless. There's a couple things I'd like changed from Black Ops, no free-aiming launchers, because they're for n00bs, fixing spawning, so you don't spawn near the enemy, repower sniper rifles, or at least make rifles less powerful and bring back the emergency care package.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 coming Nov. 8 - Report

Rumors of Modern Warfare 3 have been percolating for weeks, and today, they apparently finally boiled over. A report on Kotaku pegs the game as being released on Tuesday, November 8, for undisclosed platforms, though the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 are likely suspects.

According to the gaming blog, the game will begin shortly after Modern Warfare 2 ended, following a surprise attack on the United States by a reinvigorated Russia. The new game will apparently start with the outbreak of World War III, with set-piece battles in such cities as New York, Paris, London, and Dubai.

According to the report, the game's single-player campaign will be divided among several characters, including a British SAS Operative, AC-130 gunship gunner, a tank driver, and a member of the Russian Federal Security Service, known by its acronym of the FSB. It will apparently feature two new members of the US Army's supersecret Delta Force, called "Frost" and "Sandman." Kotaku believes these characters are being prepped as protagonists for future installments in the series.

In terms of multiplayer, the game will apparently have a variety of maps in addition to two Spec Ops modes: Survival and Mission.

Activision directed queries for comment to the Twitter feed of Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling. "A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I'd wait for the real reveal," he said.

According to unconfirmed reports, the game is being codeveloped by Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software, and the "reconstructed" Infinity Ward. Activision's newly constructed studio Beachhead is also working on an online platform for the game, the details of which have yet to be revealed.

Update#2

Modern Warfare 3 “England” Teaser Released

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 news keeps pouring in today, as a second trailer for the game has just been spotted online. If you’ve already watched the debut trailer, which confirmed that you would be taking on the Russians in downtown New York, the new trailer reveals a new location with a black and green shot of Big Ben; that’s right, we’re headed to jolly old England this winter.

The trailer is very similar to the “Am3rica” trailer from earlier today, but the few lines of dialogue we can hear are packed with clues. From the first exchange in the trailer, we can discern that the city of London is in a state of lockdown, much like New York in the other trailer. In addition, a new line of Russian can be heard at the end of the trailer, which seems to be the second part of a list of instructions. We’ve had the audio translated, with the result being, “Two: Use everything at your disposal.”

The trailer gives us a whole new set of questions to ponder over: Can we expect more trailers to come, with further instructions from the Russian voice? Will other countries be revealed as targets in the coming days or weeks? And what does this say about the overarching story for the game? Let us know what you think, and which country you think will be represented in the next trailer.

Interesting.. World War III... and I say that those spoilers are pretty accurate. It does sound like the way the game would be. I wonder how Europe will be depicted as a war torn land though. I liked the story of the Call of Duty Modern warfare games and this is without no doubt the conclusion of it.. unless someone comes at the end.. but hey it is World War III! Well I am interested in seeing Europe in the campaign even... if it is being bombed or whatever. Nice to see that it is a sequel though because I heard previous rumors that it will be a prequel. Glad that is settled. As for the multiplayer... I am not sure.. I will look into it.

Modern Warfare 3 “Germany” Teaser Released

It just keeps coming…The third Modern Warfare 3 teaser has just been released.

The target this time is Germany…What a wonderful man that Makarov is, eh? This time, we’re treated to the always soothing sight of a building collapsing amidst a lot of heavy gunfire.

This time, Makarov says, roughly… “Four. Attack them where they least expect it.”

Wait…four? Four? What happened to Three, Makarov? Where did three go?

That brings us up to a total of three nations under attack so far…but we’re at four on Makarov’s to-do list…What next?! I might pull out some hair.

Update#1

Check out another new teaser of Modern Warfare 3.

Update#2

When Modern Warfare 2 was being released Infinity Award, were quick to point out the new features of their IW 4 engine. When Modern Warfare 2 was realeased however we saw very little imporvement between graphics and AI of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Black Ops was only marginally better in gameplay changes and eniviroment textures and its clear the engine is showing its age. Above is a leaked screenshot of Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 2 utilizes the in-house IW 4.0 game engine, which is claimed to be a generation beyond the capabilities of the engine used in Call of Duty 4. Although proprietary, it is based on an unspecified id Tech engine, and can accommodate larger worlds, enhanced graphic detail, and more efficient rendering. Infinity Ward has addressed the issue of enemies that continually respawn at different points of a level. The developer demonstrated that the game engine uses a "dynamic AI", which has replaced the infinite respawn system and allows enemies to act more independently.

These "smarter" enemies are designed to actively seek out and drive the player forward through a level, and can break away from set behaviors such as following a designated route in order to attack. The player cannot depend on enemies to be found in the same locations as a previous play-through because enemies will behave differently each time a level is played.

These improvements were not big enough jumps in my opinion for game which has continously got support; I think fans of the game deserve a big more that what they are currently getting each year. For example even in terms of graphical improvement COD is far behind on improvements. Its just the same poor graphics with new levels and weapons repackaged into the same ageing engine. Games such as Gears Of War & Killzone however are seeing such improvements in gameplay and in graphics (Killzone has better AI, improved graphics and multiplayer enhancements) . See screenshots below newer iterations are the top screen of each image!

Yep I saw the trailer right when it was supposed to be shown. So looks like World War III in a video game is going to come alive. England, France, Germany, New york etc. But there really is no difference besides some campaign bits. CoD never changes when new ones are released. Although I want to play for the story mostly in this one. I have not even started Black Ops yet. I only play Multiplayer with a couple here. I do not even think Black ops is worth starting. MW III is certainly going to have the biggest war yet.. and I am glad to see Europe as a location.. even if it is war torn.

Miyuki lol BO's single player is surprisingly good imo you should play it asap. Its longer than MOH's.

Trailer seems epic but not enough gameplay..I want to see more of the gameplay. What kind of weapons would it have..I cant wait damnzzzzzz and MP omg Ineed my COD fix!!!!!!!!!!

No. It's going to be free.
However you can pay a monthly fee for some extra stuff.
DLC and other stuff like that.

The brand new subscription service ‘Call of Duty Elite’ has received its very own trailer, detailing the various features gamers will have the chance to pay for. Check it out now.

Call-Duty-Elite-Trailer-Subscription.jpg

It’s safe to say that Activision is turning the act of leaking information into an artform, but you won’t hear us complaining. We’ve only just discovered that Modern Warfare 3 will be seeing the official roll-out of Activision’s subscription-based online service Call of Duty Elite, and now a trailer explaining the various feaures and online integration has arrived to shed even more light on the subject.

There’s no question that Activision bringing subscriptions to Modern Warfare 3 is going to be an upsetting announcement to many fans who have been enjoying everything that Call of Duty has to offer for free, but we recommend seeing what the service has to offer before deciding.

The team behind the next CoD has claimed that MW3 would be setting a new standard, and without a brand new engine or other groundbreaking feature, it seems that Call of Duty Elite is how they plan to reshape the landscape.

Many of the features are likely to seem familiar to fans of other shooters and competitive titles like Halo, or a myriad selection of titles offered through Steam, Activision seems to think that access to stat-tracking via PC and tablets is something worth charging subscriptions for.

Take a look at the trailer for Call of Duty Elite to see all of the features for yourself, and keep your eyes peeled at the end for a bonus look at Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer:

There’s no question that the features offered are good to have, but it would be a fair criticism to say that as the most successful video game franchise on the planet, Call of Duty should have been offering this a long time ago. Dedicated fans willing to shell out $15 for a few new maps, and lining up to help the publisher achieve record-breaking profits seem like the kind of customers who should be getting the best features that their $60 can buy.

If all of these features -- not some, as the trailer suggests -- were going to be made available to buyers of Modern Warfare 3, then we might agree that the game was bringing a new standard for console multiplayer. But by offering them as a premium service, Activision should prepare to face accusations of charging for a service that should be included.

The face-off between MW3 and Battlefield 3 is already set to be a good one, and while Activision and Infinity Ward may see Elite as an ace up their sleeve, it could be an opportunity for DICE. If the comapny with the stronger background in PC gaming brings most if not all of these features to consoles for free, they would automatically receive a significant boost in public support. We don’t know if that’s the case, but if it is, November should be interesting.

What are your thoughts on the offerings for Elite? Do you think there may be enough features here to justify an extra charge, or are these features and systems that you think should have been implemented years ago? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.

Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty Elite are going to be arriving on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 8.

Update#1

Activision has announced that a public beta for Call of Duty: Elite will launch in the summer, months in advance of the service's full release later in the year.

"We're thrilled with the rest of the world to experience it for the first time during our public beta this summer, where your feedback will help us perfect this service for launch later this year," said Mark Cox, Digital Marketing Director for Call of Duty, talking at a press conference held by Activision last week.

"Elite was built from the ground up to change the way our consumers experience multiplayer in all current and future Call of Duty games.

"We see it as delivering a new level of social and community interaction for the Call of Duty franchise, and in an always-on, always connected gaming world, the innovation in Elite is just as important as the advancements in graphics and gameplay.

"This is one of our most exciting and ambitious undertakings for Activision."

The service, which has been developed by Activision's newly-formed Beachhead Studios, lets players connect and compete with other Call of Duty players in a feature-loaded online stat-tracking and social networking service.

The service will be available to customers in two membership options; free or premium, with the latter offering an all-inclusive package with access to leagues and all Modern Warfare 3 DLC. A free service will offer in-depth stat-tracking and access to online social groups, similar to Bungie.net.

Call of Duty: Elite launches with Modern Warfare 3 later this year.

Update#3

Infinity Ward “having conversations” on dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 3

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has said that the developer is “having conversations” about dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 3.

Modernwarfare-3.jpg

Speaking in an interview with GameFront, Bowling said Infinity Ward is doing everything it can to make sure the PC community has “all the bells and whistles,” so that the majority of PC users can enjoy the game straight out of the box.

“In Modern Warfare 3, I’ve been trying to reach out to our PC guys,” he said. “We had some of the [PC] guys come out to the studio a few weeks ago. We have them here. We brought them here so they can see the stuff we’re showing off. We’re putting a lot of focus there, to make sure that our PC community has all the bells and whistles. So, the guys that have the powerhouse machines, that they can crank it up and enjoy the game. It’s very important for us on the PC to make sure we have a solid min-spec base–so that the majority of our PC users can enjoy the game out-of-box, run it smooth, exactly how they expect. That’s very key for us. You’d be surprised how that can easily be overlooked. We’re making sure the PC is up and running from day one, and it’s running smooth on min-spec and beyond throughout the entire development process. As you get later on in the development cycle, you get to the point where you start focusing on PC-specific features. It’s the one platform out of Xbox 360, PS3 and PC that has specific things that go only into that version.

“That stuff comes a little later. I can’t confirm anything yet, but right now we’re having conversations about dedicated servers, mod tools and post launch support. I can’t give you an answer yet on what will be included. In Modern Warfare 3 we added IWnet, which was all about matchmaking–with the plan to eventually add in dedicated servers. My ideal philosophy on the PC is to have matchmaking for the ‘mass.’ Have matchmaking for the guys who just want to jump in, hit ‘play game’ and start playing. But let’s not lose that dedicated core audience that wants the dedicated server experience.

“We’re looking at ways to on how to incorporate that into Modern Warfare 3. We’ve been listening a lot to our PC guys who have been very vocal since Modern Warfare 2 about what they want to see come back to our versions of the franchise.

“We’re having those discussions now. I don’t want to confirm, but we’re looking to support [dedicated servers] as much as possible.”

Modern warfare 3 is out November 8 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Modern Warfare 3′s story will decide the campaign length

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling has said the developer isn’t concerned with trying to make the single-player campaign any particular length.

20110610mw3.jpg

“Modern Warfare 3 is big,” Bowling told Gamefront in an interview embedded below. “It has that epic single player campaign and it’s all about taking players places they’ve never been before.

“… Our philosophy on the campaign has always [been] the same. We never set out … to make X hours of game time. We write a story and the story dictates the length.

So – how long will that be then?
“The game’s not finished yet. I can’t say it’s X amount of hours cause we don’t know.”

Rats. However, Bowling did hint that fans won’t be disappointed.
“Coming out of Modern Warfare 2, we did have this very big vision, and a lot of that was a by-product of having the 25, 30 million players that we have.

“So Modern Warfare 3 is about the fans – in every aspect of the game.”

E3 2011: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hands-On Preview

Spec Ops made its Call of Duty debut as part of the Modern Warfare 2 package and gave players a chance to defend a location against waves of attackers of escalating difficulty. The game mode returns in Modern Warfare 3 and brings with it a new mode in Survival; an army of two experience where you lean on either an AI buddy, for same-console split-screen play, or go online.

Today, we had a chance to get hands-on with the new mode, with our demo located on Dome, a level that will also appear as a multiplayer map. Activision reps confirmed that these levels will not come from the single-player campaign. Beginning initially with only a pistol, you will need to either get used to it or scrounge the weapons of fallen enemies for freebie upgrades. The first group we took on were all fans of the shotgun, but within a few short waves, enemies were packing submachine guns and assault rifles. Afraid of germs from secondhand guns? There's also the option to spend the money you earn from felled troops on more advanced weapons, items, and special perks.

Human life is meant to be priceless, but our targets worked out to about $150 per kill, with us earning a cool 20 beans for dealing damage but our buddy landing the finishing blow. Bonuses are given for earning kill streaks, and you don't get perks like the spy planes, radio-controlled cars with munitions strapped to them, or gruesome napalm strikes (that we saw anyway), but you will get some extra cash for the kitty just for doing your job well by earning successive kills without taking damage. Be warned, though: Catching even a single stray bullet with your character will reset your counter, which is marked at the bottom of the screen by a yellow progress bar.

The Dome map was split into a few distinct zones: the shell of a gutted office building, an outdoor area with parked military vehicles, and a bunker area down a ramp (a good spot for hiding in wait for targets to approach the incline). There were also two open spaces begging for machine gun turrets and grenade launchers, as well as the level's namesake dome: an indoor section with a large cement column blocking line of sight to its second doorway.

Located in three of these areas (the office, underground bunker, and dome room) were supply boxes. When we had enough money and wanted to upgrade our salvaged kit to something that packed a harder punch, we wandered down to drop some coin. Like the outfitting options in Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer, each weapon has an assortment of available unique upgrades, such as red dot and ACOG scopes as substitutes for raw iron sights, as well as under-barrel grenade launchers. Ammunition doesn't automatically restock between rounds, so you'll need to keep some cash handy to replenish.

While the box of tricks in the dome was limited to offering new guns, the others played host to something a little nastier. The one marked on the heads-up display with a grenade icon sold explosive and flashbang grenades, as well as Kevlar vests. It also sold portable auto machine gun and grenade turrets. Once purchased, they were automatically assigned a location on the D pad ready for use and could be activated at will. Once placed in your preferred location, your partner can still pick up and reposition them. This became a crucial tactic when one of the waves replaced ground grunts carrying riffles with attack helicopters. At that point, we squirreled our unmanned guns away under cover to avoid our investment being blown to bits.

Because each player approaches combat differently, it's unlikely all players will earn cash at the same rate. Thus, at times, there may be an imbalance with the virtual checkbook. As a result, if you're a little light, you can either take a $500 handout from your mate at a time or play the role of generous benefactor bankrolling the mission. Because you can only have a single type of turret in operation at any time per player, it makes sense to share the wealth, giving your friend a chance to pay for either another of the same kind or a complimentary type to use in tandem.

The third and final shop granted us access to more valuable and exotic items, such as Delta Force reinforcements and predator drones. Calling in Delta Force dropped a half-dozen extra men on the field to help even the numbers. Your teammate has his name clearly visible and hovering above the character model at all times, but that isn't the case with other squadmates. In the heat of battle, the green crosshairs of friendlies easily went unseen, and friendly fire meant it was easy to perforate part of our own group with itchy trigger fingers.

Player stats flash up onscreen at the end of each wave with ratings for your weapon accuracy, number of kills achieved, and total cash earned. There's a leveling system at play here to rank up as you go, but none of the weapons or items we came across in the stores were out of our reach if we had the dollars.

Enemy combatant AI went easy on us at the start, moving in packs and clumping near walls and vehicles. But as the mode continued on and the waves rolled by, riot shield-wielding enemies and juggernauts joined the fray and made better use of flanking. For this reason, communication between you and your friend becomes essential to cover blind spots, and we had fun plugging away at bad guys and searching out the optimal spots to hold to cover two entrances simultaneously.

The Modern Warfare 3 content train now seems to be gaining speed, giving us our first look just before E3, taking the wraps off the first details of its proposed Call of Duty: Elite service details, demoing a new chunk of single-player content during Microsoft's E3 press conference, and now throwing open the doors on the closest thing we've seen so far to multiplayer. Stay tuned to GameSpot for more on Modern Warfare 3 from E3 2011 in anticipation of its release on November 8 this year.

According to the preview, in Survival, you can play via split screen or online as you take out waves of enemies swarming you which is a bit like a Horde mode.

The preview even mentions those kamikaze dogs we’ve been hearing about.

Quick-Scoping might return in Modern Warfare 3

Treyarch’s decision of removing quick scoping from the last CoD title – Black Ops didn’t really please fans of the series who had got into a habit of using it to their advantage during multi-player sessions. However, Infinity Ward doesn’t intend to follow on their footsteps and have hinted that the feature might make it to the final build of Modern Warfare 3.

IW’s community manager Robert Bowling strongly hinted that quick-scoping might be retained for the title during a AMA (Ask Me Anything) session which he held over at Reddit.

“Currently, you can still quick scope in Modern Warfare 3. Keep in mind though, multiplayer is always changing at this stage (new perks, new balancing, new everything all the time based on feedback), however our philosophy on that hasn’t changed since MW2.”

This is good news if you’re fan of quick-scoping as it seems they intend on retaining it for Modern Warfare 3.

Activision: 90% of Call of Duty Elite is free

These is what will be free with Call of Duty Elite.

Activision is still trying its best to get the message across to fans of the Call of Duty series that Call of Duty Elite will not charge for anything that can be done already. The latest attempt includes a breakdown of all the free services that will be included when the service is launched alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

A flyer was released that includes a listing of all the free services that will come for free with Elite including Career Stats, Heat Maps, Video Uploads, Leaderboards, Groups, Clan Support and more. Activision posted on Facebook that, "A lot of You Are Upset That You Think You Have To Pay For Call of Duty Elite. Well We Are Here To Tell You, That 90% of Elite Is FREE!"

Promising more features than ever, the flyer states that Elite includes:
The out of the box experience that our players expect – a great single player campaign, co-op missions, and the deepest and most accessible multiplayer experience anywhere at no additional cost - remains the same as ever. Elite then adds an unprecedented level of services free of charge.
Activision has had to repeatedly state that online play for Call of Duty games will remain free.

Some of the content that is said to be included with the paid premium service of Call of Duty Elite include access to all the multiplayer map packs as well as a rumored video series produced for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Activision has not announced a price yet but it is expected to cost less than a monthly subscription to Netflix ($9.99).

You can check out a screengrab of the features listed in the flyer here.

A beta for Call of Duty Elite kicks off mid-July and will work with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled to launch on November 8, 2011.
