yes, i rate this game the best FF game, out of all the FF games up to FFXII i would rate it the best.

I am rating it the best one yet because it has a good plot, it lets you interact with almost everyone and everything and it is simple to play.

What do you think of this game?

Personally, I'm not a fan of it. I don't think it was awful, I just think it was drastically underdeveloped. I wasn't a fan of the battle system, I think it would have been fine if were a bit faster, just the slowness bored me slightly. The storyline on the whole I thought was good but again I thought it had more potential than what it showed. Characters lacked depth drastically though imo, it was setup to have some brilliant background stories and relationships but they didn't really exploit it =/

It wasn't an awful game by any means, just the lack of development brought it down massively imo =[

I just don't like what they've turned Ivalice into....That is why I cant love the game as much as I used to....I think Everything else was great and if It took place on another planet along with fftactics advance and tactics advance2 then I would have liked it way more....It's hard for me to believe this game takes place where the Lion War took place.....Way too hard to believe...But it's an overall good game, I'll give it that...

To be honest, I think all Final Fantasy games are deserving of praise. However, I think this game takes the cake in terms of graphics, story, and gameplay.

Even though almost everyone hated the story, I actually really liked it. I don't really understand where people are coming from when they say that there was no relationship between the characters. Sure, not all of them together were that close, but you did have the relationships like with Vaan and Penelo, Balthier and Fran, and Ashe and Basch. I'm not talking about a sexual relationship either. Vaan and Penelo are both orphans and they got thrown into the party because Vaan basically wanted to
avenge Reks
, and Penelo follows Vaan to keep him out of trouble. Ashe had a connection with Basch because he was accused of
killing her father
, so she had a grudge against him but he ended up protecting her. They all got thrown together with the same goal, so they ended up staying together. Just like every other Final Fantasy, pretty much.

Alright, this is starting to sound like a review so I'll wrap that part up with I think that the characters were well designed. Their stories and how they got thrown into the story that we play were excellent.

Gameplay, personally I was impressed with it. The gambits were a pain in the ass to set up, but once you got it right they worked incredibly well. I agree with Ryan in the fact that it should have been faster, because the waiting got a bit boring. I thought boss fights were fun because of the bar at the top- it wasn't just a mystery as to how much health the boss had left. I had it set so that it would pause whenever I was picking an action out of my menu, and that helped a lot during boss fights. If you turned it off, that has it's advantages as well.

I had always loved X's leveling up system, so I was excited to have a version of that included with XII. License points weren't all that easy to obtain, but it was exciting to not know which path lead to where. The one thing that makes this game all the more enjoyable was getting to choose what each character would be (warrior, mage, etc). Once you purchased a spell, all you had to do was pick up the license points and everyone could use it.

Character voices, they were perfect in my opinion and not overdone like X was. The voices were exactly how I would have pictured them to be, however I don't know if it's just my television but there was a lot of breathing in the background and it felt like they were speaking through something, it wasn't clear. I'm not talking about the Judge's voices, though. I thought those were done extremely well, with having to accustom the voice to being underneath armor.

Mist charges took me a while to get used to but it was an interesting take on limit breaks. Chaining was always exciting and I remember how glad I was when I got the special area chain if you got 3 in a row (I think).

The FMV's were just absolutely beautiful, the people looked real and their facial expressions were spot-on. The environments were wide open and well designed, every time I stepped into a new area it became my favorite place.

This happens to be my favorite Final Fantasy, regardless of how much nostalgia I get from playing Dissidia and remembering the older games. It was extremely well done in my opinion.

I think the only gripe I have with this game is the fact that I needed to level up a lot. I usually over level anyway, because I don't like struggling through the game or winning by just enough, so it was easy to deal with. I felt like I had to level up every other boss battle.

(I think I got a little excited with this post... excuse the length.)

The FMVs in FFXII are tremendous when you first see them. I know the opening scene is perhaps one of the most epic and best I have ever seen alongside FFX's. The FMV scene with
Ondore's resistance fighting Vayne's Bahamut
deserves a mention as it conveys fantasy aerial warfare so well.

Same with Ariana- I didn't hate the story, I rather liked it. There was no real love story unlike the previous games, but I didn't mind that. I loved how it is a more political and mature storyline- with the sinister threat of
Gods being puppetmasters of mankind
. The numerous shards and ancient dungeons required to be acquired or visited seemed rather redundant however.

I did not like Vaan's position as a protagonist. He becomes an observer, his goal of vengeance forgotten until
meeting Gabranth in Pharos
. Penelo falls into this position as well- they are overshadowed by Ashe and Basch- the two orphans become nearly irrelevant to the story.

I liked how big Ivalice was- I loved the cities especially Archades- though I hated places such as Giruvegan and Pharos. I didn't like how
you don't visit Rozarria despite its integrity to the story
.

The battle system was rumoured to be revolutionary- and yes it is more action-like than traditional turn based- but still mood-crushingly slow. You have to wait a few seconds for your character to do what you commanded them to. It became more of an offline MMORPG than anything revolutionary.

Basically I rather liked it- though it wasn't my favourite.

However, Balthier is an awesome character- very akin to Han Solo too!

I adored FFXII. I've always preferred real-time battle systems to turn-based, and once I got used to XII's Gambits I loved it. I found it easy to get into, being set in Ivalice, and it was just so much more interesting, being more political and focusing more on the world events than the characters. The voice acting was excellent, as was the dialogue - for once we had a princess who actually spoke like a princess.
About the only complaints I have are in regards to the difficulty, and the fact that
the Occuria were just completely out of place in the storyline. Since when do gods concern themselves with mortal politics? It just didn't feel right, and it undermined Vayne as the central protagonist.
...that, and Vaan had a horrendous voice actor for a street rat...

I totaly agree with you Asabella, i dont mind the long post, infact it makes me happy that you went in depth to explain your likes and dislikes about FFXII, and that you posted to my thread makes me feel like im making a connection with the FFF community.

Keep the posts coming and it is fine of your post is long.

Did I like the game? Yes. Was it on my list of my fave ffs? No.
I thought the game was okay-- but not the best yet. TBH, it was one of my least favorite. I thought the gambits were a waste.. IMO anyways never really did much for me. However, I did like how all the characters weren't stuck to just one weapon an' whatnot you can mix match. The storyline was okay but, I wasn't all that interested in the characters (besides Balthier +Basch) Penelo kindof annoyed me as so did Vaan but I guess he had a purpose in the game. Ashe just seemed like she had a stick up her arse all the time to me and I never came to like her. Fran had a pretty soft voice but she was kindof just "there" to me. Blathier and Basch were my top two. They both were great characters IMO.

Best yet? Nope.

I enjoy the game alot, but alot of the time it did just feel like I was running around place to place just for the sake of it. With other FF games, I've really wanted to get to the next area to learn more about where the story was heading. With FFXII, I didn't have that feeling, it was more of a case of "I want to go fight, when I'm bored of this, I'll do the objective, then go fight in a new area." The Occuria just didn't make any sense what-so-ever to me. They were just thrown in, with no real story behind them and were revealed far too late in the game for them to seem important to the plot.

I like the battle system and the size of areas, aswell as the license board. Gameplay wise, it's excellent, but the characters and story lacked and brng my overall rating of the game down.

I couldn't help but think of Star Wars throughout most of the plot aswell.

Fun game to play, but it just lacked depth when it comes to characters and storyline.

Also, Vaan's voice does my fucking head in.

It was good, I enjoyed playing it, but I don't call it the "Best yet".

I had high expectations coming in, waiting since 2001/2002 when it was first announced after I got done playing FFX and not being able to wait until the next main FF game was released. 5 long years of counting down and hoping and waiting, but overall it was a great game. I enjoyed playing every second of it and got as much out of the game as possible.

It had great features, but connecting with the characters, which is my favorite part of the game, just didn't happen. Sure I dug deep to know where they came from and who they were, but only 1, maybe 2 I could try to put myself in their shoes to relate.

Story was great, mature, but somewhat complex. Great game; just not the best IMO.

Personally, I loved this game. It had great graphics, a cool new battle system, a thick plot, and the characters actually had personality. This game was a lot like FF3 in my opinion, plot-wise.

Something about the gameplay just annoys me. The fact that you have to time the License Board purchases with when you can get certain spells or equipment was beyond annoying as well.

It was okay, but far from the best IMO.

The battles were a little..weird. If they had just kept the battle system simple, it would have been a awesome game.

I loved that it brought back the elements from FFVI, that made me love it even more. The graphics were beautiful, story was good and the character had some good flesh to them.

If only the battles were different :(

I think I've said this in another post, but if anything FFXII was far from the best game yet IMO, I really would've love to play it all the way through but I didn't think much of the battle system, and a few of the characters were annoying, like Penelo and Vaan, I like Balthier and Fran 'cos they actually had some kind of backstory to them, as did Ashe and Basch I guess, Gabranth was pretty cool too. But everything else didn't really make me want to finish the game, so it's the only FF game that I really can't be bothered to finish... which doesn't make it good really in my opinion.

Best yet? Not by a long shot :sad3:

It was a great game, but it had more potential. The story could have been much more powerful and it seemed kind of short, to be quite honest. Without hunts, the game is very short and boring. The battle system was a step backward from X and the cutscene graphics were not appealing. Their faces looked very boring and unappealing.

I liked the scenery and the diversity of the backgrounds, but otherwise, this game wasn't that good.

Well, I must say that I rank this game in my top 3 FF's, probably number 1 spot (but I can't decide between this one and FFX).

I loved how the story was well told and structured (except, like people have mentioned, the Occuria revelation which came far too late and could have been handled better to give it more weight). The dialogue was refreshingly good and the characters had good backstories.

The battle system was very enjoyable and I actually do find it faster paced than most other RPGs. The only thing that was completely atrocious was the chest system. Farming for items has always been a staple of the genre as a whole, but FFXII took it to ridiculous levels.

I also enjoyed the hunts, which extended the life of the game greatly.

It's nice to see people appreciating FFXII for a change.

Well in my Opinion personally it was a very good game the beggining opening scene when you first played the game was epic awesomness althought it could have been made more interesting like adding a few bit's into it like for example more depth into the stort of arcadia and the judges the empire etc vayne gramis occuria meaning house solidor quite chalenging in some parts the gambit was hard and fun well if you get used to it it can really fun but it does get annoying

so 11/12 for me great game but can be a bit annoying and awkward

In Graphic sense I do believe this is the best one yet, however in voice acting sense, not really. The game overall, while it has it's flaws, it also has a certain charm about it. The world if unique with lots of little places to explore and tons of people to talk to, though it is a shame there are certain areas you can't go to further explore. The geographical design for the game in my opinion was outstanding. I liked how many places there were to go, as I've stated above the world has a lot of unique places to explore.

While some of the cons outweigh the pros I'd say that I enjoy the game very much, now whether it's the best yet or not I can't really say, it's very enticing and has a certain pull about it, but at the same time there were a few things that they could have done better. VO volume being one, the music would be soft and quiet requiring you to turn up the volume, but as soon as someone spoke it's like they blew out your speakers.

The battle system was a bit...weird to me at first as I had gotten used to the turn battle system but once I got used to it I liked it, it's like free motion, and although you still have to wait for your actions to load up, it's nice to be able to move around the target instead of being stationary.

Overall it may not be the Best yet, but it's made it's mark. At least with me.

I thought this game was epic in every way. The graphics were great for the time. The soundtrack was different but still very well done. The gameplay was incredible, i thought it was so much more interactive than ffx (but i still love that game). The plot was great it was much more complex than previous ones and there was alot of depth to it. All in all it was my favorite FF.

It had a lot of good elements to it, but i wouldn't go so far to say its the best Final Fantasy out there. I really had a high expectation for this game and sure there was some great things about it, just not what i was expecting.

The cut scenes in this game were amazing. When i first bought the game and threw it in my PS2, i was speechless. The graphics of it for a PS2 was incredible and breathtaking. So much detail was put into them and it was a huge thing for me in terms of enjoyment.

The characters were quite memorable. They each had there uniqueness and back story that was always so interesting too me. They developed during the game and i immediately grew attached to them.

The storyline was ok.. not what i was hoping for but ok. The battle system i really hated. I was never a fan of these new battle systems. I liked some of the leveling systems but turn based battle systems have always been #1 in my heart.

FFXII was a good game, just wasn't the best Final Fantasy game out there.
