Square Enix is looking to crown the first-ever global “super fan” of Final Fantasy.

As part of their 25th anniversary celebrations for the series, Square Enix is offering fans to prove how much they love Final Fantasy in an all-new contest. The rules are simple: submit a 30-60 second video explaining to the world why you are the ultimate fan. Full details have yet to be announced, but should be available on the official contest site shortly.

The crowned Super Fan will have their name immortalized in the ending credits of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, and will receive a pair of tickets to the Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy concert in Paris, France on January 12, 2013.

[24/10] Final Fantasy Super Fan contest deadline extended

Square Enix has extended the deadline for its first ever Super Fan contest.

You’ll now have until October 29th to get your video submissions in, so you’d better hurry! Anyone from all over the world is eligible to enter this contest – all you have to do is create a short 30-60 second clip of yourself and why you should be crowned the #1 Final Fantasy fan. The best entry will not only win a trip to Distant Worlds in Paris, but their name in the credits of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII as well as some other goodies.

The best videos will be posted online to be voted on by other fans. Full details can be found at the contest website.

Well, I can't/don't want to make a video, but I would like to make a case for why I am the ultimate fan.

-----------------

Dear Yoichi Wada-san, Motomu Toriyama-san, whatsyourname Kitase-san, Tetsuya Nomura san,

Before I dive deep into the matter at hand, I would like to pick out your use of the word "fan". I ask: what is a proper fan? And no, I don't mean those magical, electric instruments you keep on the table in the summer or hanging from the ceiling, dangerously spinning quickly enough to shred your unsuspecting heads when it's ungodly warm. A proper fan, I argue, isn't someone who will just lap up your products like they're the best things ever and uncritically accept them, while at the same time insisting that you as a company have never put a foot out of place. That isn't a fan. That is just a sheep. That would make you a toothless, grinning shepherd taking advantage of this poor darling sheep for his or her money every time you ask for it.

No, a proper fan is willing and able to speak out. To speak out and eloquently point out when you are being shit. To tell you what you are doing that is shit or has been pitifully disappointing. To drill into your heads clever, ingenious and indispensable solutions to fix all of your woes and problems. That way, you can improve from a shit company to a half-half company at least and that would be a fantastically big achievement before you can ever consider being up there as one of the best companies ever as you were widely considered to be back in your glorious, halcyon days. Take me for instance. I have tons of practical solutions for you to follow. Listen to me and I will make you great again. Ignore me and you risk becoming as irrelevant as Ben Affleck.

What does this also mean? It means that I am great. I am not just a mere fan (as much as in pains me to use the words "I" and "fan" in the same sentence when I'm talking about your company) and one of many. I transcend the ordinary fandom. I am your saviour. Listen to me, work with me and together we can be great. By that I mean, hire me. You can leave out my name from LR: FFXIII's closing credits. I'm not sure I would want it there unless I use a rude-sounding alias.

Lots of love,

Your Messiah,

Olivia Burton-Twinklebottoms

lol Olivia I absolutely agree with your post.
Im just curious did you steal Melody's identity?lol
At first I thought you were Melody.

Cause I know you dont even care about Versus let alone Stella lol.

Anyways nr 1 fan ?pfff and on end credits of lightning returns. I wouldnt want to be associated with tht game anyways. A true ff fan would not even participate.

Embarrassing yourself in a selfmade clip just to end up on end credits of a shitty game. Lmao!!!

i'm disappointed in myself when im surprised at something like this lol

they really don't want the game to be remembered as a failure do they <_<

though, if they keep making drastic improvements to the next game like they did in transition from ff13 to ff13-2 (in the game's campaign and basic gameplay anyway) and stop making bullshit characters like Caius, they might just pull a win out of their ass :monster:

Ohhhh man :ffs:

Applications to be in a game's credits...:damon: As fans can we sign some apps to vote out and fire their upper management so we can see a console game with someone OTHER THAN Lightning in it?

The only plus I see out of this is that someone is going to be happy they released a third and in my opinion rather unnecessary, please, please God *says a little prayer* hopefully final installment to this tripe saga.

I suppose the promise of seeing their name in the credits will *hopefully* keep them motivated enough to finish the game to actually be able to see it, even though I wouldn't want MY name associated with anything to do with the XIII games... after what could possibly be another game of long identical corridors, a "come on guyz just press x!" battle system, and another unhealthy dose of the overly butch and cynical Lightning.

Hey, at least ONE person is guaranteed to be happy with this game :wacky:

Maybe :hmmm:

ENding credits

Ultimate fan: (person that decides to hump XIII the most)

I mean don't get me wrong... I am one of the few on here that did like XIII and XIII-2, but this is a little much...
In the end I guess this is what it is...

good luck to those that are entering...

Does anyone even bother looking at ending credits? They're usually so long anyway that I just go make tea or even dinner while they roll.

I may be wrong, but I don't know who will really bother with this. If it's something like being able to name one of the weapons or attacks after you, then errr, maybe just about? But your name in the closing credits? Regardless of the game, is that honestly anything to be motivated about? Oh, wow! Your name is on the same huge list of names with Toriyama included in it. Clearly this is going to be such a momentous achievement? Well, as Mel suggested, I suppose at least one person may want to get straight to the end to see their name somewhere in that vast cloud of other names that they likely won't even easily spot.

But watching the contestant videos could be a laugh just to see what they say. I say "could", but more likely I expect a lot of gushing about how great FFVII was, how it changed their lives and their entire perceptions of the world - inspiring them to do blah blah blah...

Honestly I'm not going to bother because I have seen a few people that own a copy of every FF game in existence along with lots of merchandise...my strong suspicion is that one of them will pull the "I own every game" card and win :P

For me the way to celebrate the 25 annyversary of Ff is by two things:

1) Release FFXV and that the game will be good

2) That the winner name (Full name and all) will be used for the protagonist.

Using XIII as a mean to celebrate the franchise is a blow to the nads for anyone that fancy themselves as a FF fan (Im not included im not a FF fan anymore but i cherish my FF playing days)

Thats hard. What if a person has a very normal name like john or amy? It would sound odd if other characters dont match the style of the protagonist. What would be great is allow the winner to name the protagonist.

Well Final Fantasy IV has Cecil and Kain and then names like Tellah and Rydia. Final Fantasy VI has Terra, Locke and Strago and then names like Edgar and Clyde ( Shadow's real name ) So a MC called Amy or John should be okay. Also there is Princess Sarah and Lightning's real name is Claire.

Their still a little odd.

Cecil is a last name and Harvey is a first name irl. But the switch worked.

Terra sounds exotic and Locke and Strago sound out of this world too even though their not. Tella and Rydia? What about those names?

Princess Sara isnt that bad, and Claire sounds ok.

Im just saying everyday names such as those will be hard. Im not saying a name that already exist would be hard. Names we see all the time.

Still, better to have a character be named by the winner rather than use his/her name. The one exception though i will say is kurt zisa for the heartless design competition.

Well as I consider myself a Final Fantasy fan, I have therefore decided to take it upon myself to keep my chances and name 100% AWAY from this bomb scare of a trilogy. ^_^

How I relish the days when we can be given real, quality FF's once more instead of this Lightning love-in crap.

So Cloud, Lightning and Squall are perfectly fine names? Well they could do it Lightning way and adrees the MC by its nickname while using the MC true name as a shock value (Ie reveal).

Do you know any person named lightning cloud squall in rl? Theres the issue of the name countering the theme of the characters.

Im talking about human common names for people in real life. Lets not make this bigger than what it is. You know what i meant, dont turn my comments into potential (yet poorly chosen) examples.

Its still abhetter idea to allow the winner to name the character rather than have his/her name for the character. Plus theres also the issue of more people sharing the same name.

What is the problem of sharing the name? And i dont get what is the problem if The MC name turn out to be Average Joe, it will be funny actually.

You know why. Dont bother asking.

If they share the same name then that means some other fan who shares the same name will claim the winner.

Why defend something so obviously flawed?
