The best saddest movies that i watched was "Graves of the Fireflies". I watched i yesterday, and i never cry during movies, but this one i had a tear i my eye during the whole movie. :'(

If you didnt see it yet go watch it im sure you would like.

The Green Mile , I shed tears in front of my mom with this movie :mokken:
Grave of the Fireflies was sad yes. Great anime. :)
 
Probably... The Bride with White Hair duology. :ohshit:

I didn't know it was a cultural tradition for asians to serenade the world with tragic love stories back then, & thought it was the most bummerific romance, ever.

Ben Hur was pretty epic the first time I really watched it, too.
 
one flew over the cuckoos nest was brilliant but the ending was a little sad :sad:

Not much compares to the green mile D: Though that film was just too depressing for my tastes. Puts me off watching it. It seems to be a running thing with tom hank movies ive noticed.

The Green Mile. I wasn't sure what movie I wanted to say until I saw this post. That movie was great but utterly depressing.


timthebigone Lew has a good point. If you'd like I can move this thread to Midgar instead (the movie section).
 
I don't know whether there's any movie I'd class as 'the saddest.' However, there are a few which have made me cry.

- The Fox and the Hound, EVERY TIME.
It's heartbreaking when the old lady has to give up Tod and he's left all alone in the forest! :sorry:

- The Lion King. Yeah... We all know which bit...

- 50 First Dates.
This is meant to be a comedy, but I cried for about half an hour...The fact the girl loses her memories of the guy again and again and then keeps discovering that she's unable to remember anything after falling asleep is terrible! I'd hate to be in that position and would find it extremely hard to live with someone in that position who was unable to remember me. :( (Even though The Notebook deals with similar content, I don't find that movie sad... Couple have happy life, couple struggle through old age, couple die together... It's not THAT sad.)

I'm commenting on this because (I've only seen the film once) as a child that scene in the movie really did get to me. My Dad (whenever getting a rental) then used to forever joke that he'd got Fox and the Hound out again, and then he'd pull the trollface :trollface:. That and the Pikachu goodbye scene in the Pokemon TV series really did affect me as a child. :sad2:

As for now...
It's a tough one. There are some movies that affect me emotionally, but not all of them are sad. Some of them contain reflective moments, and a little bit sad. Others are happy-sad. Some are just depressingly sad.

There are different levels to it.

I'm struggling to think of examples as typically good movies do pull the right emotions in me where intended. I don't bawl my eyes out over any movie though. My emotions are only internally expressed.


Out of films that I've seen relatively recently (and thus are the only ones to jump out of my head at this moment in such short notice), for the depressingly sad I must say that American History X has such an ending. You know it is going to head in that sort of a direction, but I didn't see it quite happening like that or to that person. It's a depressing ending, but good for being so.

There are better examples too, but like I said I'm struggling to decide at this moment.

I must instead say that the closest I've been to actually crying / tears forming in me must be from films with happy-crying, or films which reflect a huge sense of accomplishment after much difficulty (i.e King's Speech, It's a Wonderful Life as two random examples). I'm not one for over-the-top happiness, but I do like films that hit it right there like these do.
 
Testament. Possibly the saddest movie I have ever seen. It's not well known but it's about a family during the aftermath of a nuclear war.

Or, another old school movie from the time when movie making was more an art and less about profits.

These days almost every actor is poker faced and complete failures at carrying a plot. Their facial expression is exactly the same whether they're winning, losing being betrayed or having sex. Like Keanu Reeves you could replace their face with a board that has a happy face drawn on it & it wouldn't make a difference.

Old school actors did a far better job at emoting and becoming the character they're playing. Even Mark Hamil who isn't known for his acting ability managed to have some sort of emotional outburst when he learns Darth Vader is his father.

These days, actors are more like emotionless puppets than actual people & it annoys me. :ohshit:
 
My Girlfriend is a gumiho....its a korean drama...its give such a big impact to me...
im a kind of person that not easily can stick to korean movies...but...trust me...this drama can drag me untill all 16 episodes...hmmm....i dunno what to say....arrghhh...it just..sooooo sad to say....hope all of u watch it....

its a romantic comedy drama....it totally worthy...

I could not stop crying throughout this entire movie. :sad3:

It's about a couple and who are seperated when the guy dies from cancer. He doesn't ever tell her he has cancer so that they could live out the remainder of their time together happily instead of being depressed.

When she comes home from the funeral she keeps ringing his mobile phone so that she can listen to his voice asking to leave a message. So sad. >.<

It was simply the saddest thing I've ever seen and I'm too scared to watch The Notebook because apparently that's even sadder. >.<
