I just wanted to see how many smartasses there are on here. =P

Nah just wanted to see what the majority of you are doing career/study wise.

EDIT: I just realised I left out Working and studying!
Sorry guys. I know there's a fair few of you who do that.

ATT MOD: If a mod can edit my poll and add an extra option that would be great: Working and Studying
Also can the option of voting be changed to multiple. I know some people who work and study will probably choose that and then also want to choose the institute they're attending as well. i.e university >_< Sorry I'm a little out of it at the moment.

Are you going to be/or already doing any of the following?:

* University
* TAFE
* Traineeship
* Apprenticeship
* Working but not studying
* Unemployed and not studying

I understand that Australia's naming for certain things like TAFE may differ from that of wherever you're from.

But still post anyway telling us what you're doing or intend on doing studywise for those of you just entering college etc. And careerwise for those of you who have been working since you left school or left college etc.

I have done a couple of traineeships through my workplaces and I am now currently employed at a Pharmacy as a Data Controller.

I've never really been one for going to Uni or doing too much further studying. I do what is necessary for the job I'm in to gain extra qualifications but I can't see myself enduring anymore studying outside of that.

However, some people love studying and need to study for whatever they want to become one day.

Tell us what you're doing with your life at the current moment studywise/careerwise and what you intend/hope to make out of it.

Even if you're unemployed and not studying. Tell us why you're not out there doing something. What's holding you back?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll provide definitions for those of you who don't quite understand what some of the following are:

* University: What most places usually call College

* TAFE: It's similar to university but obviously the final diploma/certificate won't be as valuable as a University Diploma/certificate. You're taught more about the subject in University. You can only learn certain subjects in TAFE. e.g: You can't become a Doctor or Dentist or anything that high up by going to TAFE.

* Traineeship: It is a TAFE certificate often earned through a school-based traineeship attended once a week. The government pays for you to earn your certificate. A typical traineeship lasts for around 2 years. Depending on how fast you complete your modules.

* Apprenticeship: It is similar to a Traineeship however it lasts for 4 years. Boys usually take up apprenticeships when they leave highschool to learn a trade such as: cabinet-making or to become an electrician. It's not very common for girls to do apprenticeships.

* Working but not studying: Explanatory =P

* Unemployed and not studying: Explanatory =D

Once again please explain why you're doing what you're doing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you feel I've left anything out just reply to the topic anyway. =P

I pretty much have my career sorted out until I finish Uni at least, as long as everything goes to plan. I hope to get AAA in my A-Levels so I can go to a decent Uni and do an LLB which means I''ll undertake 2 years of a law degree, then go and do a year abroad and then come back and do another year to complete the degree. Then I want to progress and become a solicitor, mainly because it's something I enjoy and also it's very good pay. :gmonster:

College, I'm an M.D. student..Yea you better believe that bastards :gasp:. This is not a joke, I repet, this is not a joke.

Im an apprentice pipe fitter. Its a 4 year apprentiship, ive served about 2 and a half years now, so in a year and halfs time im time served.:) Its great as its a job that can take me all over the world which is pretty cool. i just hope i dont get sacked before then, had a little bust up with the boss and things arent looking good:(

Repeat? come on M.D. Student!

Just messing with you. I'm going back to college working on my finance degree bumping my GPA up in MIS. I'm mostly working in quality assurance, which is a fancy way of saying I'm a code debugger. (20+ hours a week to maintain a set schedule, and 40+ when not in classes)

I check for mistakes in code, as well as cosmetic issues in software (fancy way of making things look pretty). Our company develops collateral software for banks, which lets them handle their appraisals, loans, and blah blah blah, borring you..

Trust me it might sound interesting, but I'm a lab rat basically :P I aspire to move up to perm status and try my hands at System Analyst, where I can write documentation and be in direct contact with our clients. I'm a people person. I do enjoy my job though, good people good friends, and of course soccer year round when I don't break my knee in two.

I'm in college for computer information systems. I chose this field because, honestly, the only ambition I had was to get an office job, and after a semester of general studies, I thought CIS would be the way to go. I'm more interested in the technical side than the business side, which might prove troublesome in my future, but I guess I want to be something like a systems analyst or administrator.

Edited. I also added "Studying but not working" ;)

And I am currently unemployed (although I entered the Mystery Shopping business just last week - but that doesn't provide any steady income) and going to school. School's quite cheap for me so I can afford to take a few classes per semester and pay for it out-of-pocket. I plan to apply for FAFSA eventually. Currently taking piano, art, and gym (only 10 bucks per semester - might as well take advantage of it, eh?). I know, weird classes to take, but I'm getting my GED out of the way first and decided to start with music and art. Gym is just a side-class, I guess. Don't really need it but heck, can't beat that price.

Anyway, still looking for a job and I haven't had any luck yet. So in the meantime I decided to make myself useful by going into the mystery shopping deal and try it out to see if it's worth it. I've got two shops to do this weekend, so I'm looking forward to that.

I'm not really doing anything constructive with my life right now. I want to study to be a Highschool English teacher or a Psychologist, or maybe even a cop, but before I can decide to make any headway with that, I feel like there's other things I need to focus on pulling together at the moment.

Wow I honestly wish I was that ambitious. I have a couple of good friends who are doing something very similar to what you're intending to do and they enjoy it.

What exactly are you studying and hoping to achieve from your studies? If you don't mind me asking.

I was actually looking into doing an apprenticeship a few years ago in order to become a auto-electrician. Apprenticeships are one of the best programs for young people. Glad that you're enjoying it and I hope things work out between you and your boss. Wouldn't want to walk halfway out of your course. =0

How long did it take you to receive your finance degree initially before you decided to go back to college for further study?
Also what does a system Analyst involve? There's been a couple of you on here already who've mentioned it.

Thank you Mitsuki! You're always a great help when needed. =D

I've always wondered what it was like to be a mystery shopper. We often got them in where I used to work. Sometimes there would even be someone waiting outside to interview them afterwards. Of course they kept themselves out of sight until the mystery shopper completed their job. That was so we didn't just act polite and corteous just for them in order to get a good review. >_< Nah, we were pretty good at customer service no matter how difficult the customer may be. >_<

Long post I know...but I'm nosy >_<

I'm living it. :elmo:

Currently 'studying' you might say XDDD

I'm doing a course type thing in being a teacher's aide. Means if I'm successful in the course, I'll be helping little kiddies learn. I left school at 16 with no G.C.S.E's (though I was predicated A*'s - A's >.>) due to personal reasons, but this course is allowing me to get back into it to become something I want to be. Doing a few other smaller courses to get qualifications for other courses I want to advance to. The more I get under my belt, the better, right? :monster:

Currently unemployed, though not through choice. Living in a small seaside town, there's very few jobs except fer during the seasons. -_- Makes finding a job VERY difficult. >.<

I'm studying Ancient History at University at the moment, and I'm in my second year.

Can't say that I'm exactly on top of everything though and I've had to battle lots of temptations to quit the course this year. I enjoy the content, I'm just not myself right now and don't feel ready for it :monster:.
The bleeding annoying thing is that I know that the second year is going to be the easiest year (besides from a god-awful study tour which I have to go on and I'm beating myself over), and in some twist of fate I'm finding it hard due to personal issues... I bet as I finally get to pull myself together it will be at the dawn of my 3rd year, when I have my dissertation piled up on top of me, and then it will start all over again. :O

Anyway. My plan? If I survive Uni, I want to go into something where I can use my Ancient History knowledge to some extent. Seeing as I OCD at reading well, if I don't tackle that issue fast then I can't see me writing my OWN book or anything if it takes ages to read just one of someone else.

So I'll probably end up as Argor the Clown, in a local entertainment-for-hire service near you.

I was once a volunteer at my siblings school as a teacher aide. It was so much fun. I don't know why I never pursued it. =0 It was good being able to flit in and out of different classrooms to help different people. The variety of tasks was great too. Kept me amused and on the ball. >_<

I LOVED studying Ancient History in highschool. I exceled in that subject more than other subjects. It's a shame I didn't try to make something out of it. =/

If all else fails become a Ancient History Teacher/Professor. =D Nah seriously good luck!

Haha I doubt that. It'll only happen if you let it. =P

I'm still in High School studying Biology, Chemistry, Music and Psychology. I've been accepted into Uni's for Forensics, Genetics and Psychology...all three of which I want to do equally as much, so I'm having difficulty deciding which one to accept.

I'm also working at the moment, at a pharmacy called Boots...for which I am also studying. I need to pass a Sale of Medicines course (which proves that I have the competance to sell medicine to people) in order to keep my job there. I quite enjoy it, it's only a saturday job so it doesn't get in the way too much.

I'm also studying driving theory, or at least I should be. <_<

I'm at college right now, doing 4 courses, although it'll drop to three next year. I just need 3 Bs to get accepted into a teaching course at university, and I'm predicted 4 As, so things are looking good.

I'm taking History, Law, English Language and English Literature this year, and the first three I'll continue into second year. So, I'll get an AS grade out of English Literature, and 3 AS level grade and 3 A level grades from the other 3 courses.

Although, I'm debating whether or not to take Government and Politics after I drop English Literature next year, sure I'd only be able to do it as an AS level, as I'm not staying on another year to get a full A Level grade, but 5 AS levels looks better than 4.

I'm not totally sure what I want to do in Uni yet though, I know I need 3 Bs to be a History teacher, which is what I think I want to do, but if I get the predicted A grades...I don't know, I could either settle for teaching or go on and be a Lawyer.

You're not nosy, it's interesting to see what people do with their lives. It gives people some direction if they are interested and such.

Oh I never got my finance degree, hince why I am going back. I did my M.I.S. degree (management information systems) (which is programming applications using visiostudio along with a flurry of computer codes [C++,JAVA,COBOL,F#,XML]) with a few classes left over to buffer out the graduation process.

System analysts do different things at different companies. Our company is a collateral management software company. We handle MultiClient user interfaces, which means basically the client and the bank can communicate easier in order to confirm/reject loans, appraisals, and other financing type activities. We make websites for alot of major banks.

Our system analysts generally handle communicating with the client in order to draw up documentation and agree on contracts for ETAs of developing the software. They are generally the team leads. So if the System Analyst draws up the documentation he/she sits down with a couple of developers, and then they set up a process flow in order for developers to split up. The process flow will basically have developers touch on different UI's (user interfaces) so the System Analysts' part is the most important part. If the Client is unhappy with the way a certain UI looks, then they request a Change Request through the System Analyst on our end.. and the System analyst gives it to the developer. Once the developer is done.. he sends it to Quality Assurance (me). We test the software and find logic errors, code debugs, and cosmetic flaws.. and send it back if it fails in our department.

Let's just say the system analyst make the big salary bucks. So it would be a great experience working as one for a little bit, if not for the rest of my duration in life.

Also can a Mod alter my vote in the poll to say "Studying and Working"

I'm a freshman in college - bitter about being denied by every single school I applied for senior year.

I'm majoring in architecture and will eventually minor in one or two (or several xD) foreign languages just to boost my credentials when I go out to get a job in the world of architects. I can't wait, to be honest. I want to contribute to this world in a productive way already.

First year of university, Biotechnology. After these three years I hope I'd be able to continue with Molecular Biology (unfortunately to study Genetics I'd have to begin to live in another city, and my parents are against that). I've always been affascinated by genetics and the endless possibilities they have, my dream is to be able to achieve something important with my work, something that will help science and/or the people.
I'm not working because we have a lot of courses to follow, resulting in 4 afternoons spent at the university every week, often we have lessons from 8.30 in the morning to 4.30/6.30 in the evening. But since I dislike not paying anything, this summer I'll find some kind of work so that I can at least pay my tuition fees. :D
I also like foreign languages a lot and obtain good results with minimum effort, so I think I'll study a couple of them and try to take the European examination for them.
