Looking through the forums, I see a lot of groupie threads, or self titled threads, or threads dedicated to a certain person about asking questions, or just.. a me thread.

While I'm sure there must be some validity to these threads (i.e a thread dedicated to an Admin or Mod), and not to be an utter bitch about it or anything, I'm curious as to what makes the rest of you lot so special.

Nothing. People just started doing it.

[Mod Edit: Bah, come on Addle - throw down a bit more =)]

By giving yourself the right to ask the question you are placing yourself above the rest of us. Us self aggrandising bastards. What makes modz or admenz more important either? ( I know you don't really mean it, and are sucking up to the modz) Surely the number of replies justifies the threads' existence. Unless you just wanted to bring us back down to size, can't have too many tall poppies can we.

Sucking up to Mods? I've been here a week. lol I've no intention of sucking up, kthx.

It's just a general curiosity as to why anyone would have their own thread. Admins, may have many questions coming their way about this and that for the forum. Regular members? Not so much.

uhm I would assume since most of those threds are in spam sections, thet I have seen, its to keep people from being bored.....Instead of "Talk to me demmit" You get a thred "Ask me"...Im sure it works to alleviate the boredom .

Its not just mods or admins its everyone. I ddon't see what the big deal is tbh. Nothing wrong with getting to know someone better is it?? I don't see why it would be a problem.

Hell, make your own. Do you feel like left out or lonely or something? Maybe people will ask you some questions too.

passes time.

This is pretty much it.

Most of the threads people make about themselves or to talk to their friends (aka Jimbob's threads) are in the spam colosseum. A lot of the "ask me" threads are in the lobby which is also a non-post count section. Things are a lot more relaxed in those sections and people make all sorts of threads and chat and all sorts. It helps people get to know each other and become friends.

Since this is a community that encourages making friends with members, and because the mods and staff are a friendly lot, normal members are allowed to make threads and talk to each other in them. This can be about themselves, their pet rat, or about other members here (as in calling their attention - see the many "GRAYE :rage:" threads). We're given freedom.

The other place sometimes people make threads about themselves is in the Temple of the Ancients, and this is for more serious topics. People write up a problem and people respond with advice.

Lewis :lew:

Who said it's self importance, or even, unwarranted, most of the time people just do it to pass the time, I made a thread last week because I was bored out of my skull, knew it wouldnt last long, and I also knew it wouldnt be taken seriously, or indeed the Q's actually be about me, and it passed an hour or so when I had nowt better to do.

These threads are in spam, it's no big deal. And who says moderators are better people anyway? We're all just here for the fun - to pass the time, because we're bored shitless, and behind our monitors, we're all just nerds :]

Edit* well, I see what you mean about the mod/admin thing actually, in case we need them for summat forum related, but saying that, if we are personally addressing them, that's what the PM feature is for. Why would we NEED to create a thread to address one mod...unless we wanted to do an 'ask the mod' thread, but again, that comes back to, what makes them any more special than us that it's alright to get to know them, but not our fellow forumers? :hmmm:

It's 8am and I'm in a bad mood, I'm trying not to come across as a twat :wacky:

Basically those self titled threads that you've seen are just for fun. =)

One person was bored one day and so made a thread asking people to ask them questions about themselves in order to pass the time.

Then it caught on to others who did the same thing.

There is really nothing that great about it, (no offense intended to those who have made said threads) and so there is no need to feel like anyone is more special than another person because they have a thread with their name in it. =)

It's all in good fun and to pass the time. =)

They are spam threads, not anything more. It's just another form of communication for those that are bored of the mold. I'm not a hugggggee fan of the spam section, so I hardly post there unless there is a common interest of mine in there. Though others are entitled to do whatever though, it's a free...counnntttrrr.... wait.. uhh you are entitled to whatever as long as it adheres to the forums rules.

It's nothing to do with self importance actually, but you have to think it is ironic. Because you created this thread you are bringing about self importance to yourself =), not saying that's a bad thing... but you wanted to voice your opinion and wanted to be heard.

If we didn't have a spam section, forum management would be a bitch to deal with. So again.. it's only fun, if you think it isn't fun.. then just don't pay attention to it. Good question though, and I think it warranted an answer.

I agree, I think it's really just for fun and goofing around, like everyone's been saying. There are a lot of different ways to chat with people on FFF and this kind of thread is just as good as any ^_^ And I'm pretty sure anyone can make one, so you could make one too if you wanted to.

Akshually, I voiced my opinion to hear the opinions of others of why they thought they'd be so great. :awesome: But yeah

Good question though, and I think it warranted an answer.

Thank you.

I dunno, I guess maybe just because the last two forums I came from, people's ego's were so huge that they always had their own self titled threads, or a thread where they just bought this item or had this to eat... and that was it. And certain members would hold a few others upon pedestals of which they kissed the ground they walked on. And they did this, alot. People were so0o0o0o0o overinflated in those days. :ness:

....Good to see this place isn't of that sort and everything's just for fun. :monster:

Yep, but again - some might see this as pretentious, because they don't know you yet. I'm trying to give justification to your question, but again some might have a difference of opinion. I know most of these folks, and they are good folks. They aren't out to be popular as much as they are just having a bit of fun. Like if I were to call Jimmeh the freakin man.. well that's just because he is. As long as the topics are in the spam section.. I'd suggest you enter at your own will.

Just a way to get to know people better. Its fun and passes the time. Its harmless and I dont think people are trying to big themselves up higher then anyone else. Well, not mine anywayz lol.

actually the spam section isnt realy my thing ,i dont like to be abused xD <--joke. But if you actually read any of the posts you would see its all in fun and to grab attention so they arent bored anymore and to play arround. Ah this took forever to do mobile ~never again

Well, I basically made mine because I feel like a lot of my friends on here don't really know me very well. I've been told that I'm a little bit difficult to approach, so I figured I'd use it as an outlet to people to ask what they want. If they felt the need to spam it, that's ok too. Truth be told though, I'm not really a good spammer, so I think others found the question and answer thing kind of boring and that thread fell to the wayside.

Being somewhat of an long time member now (not that long, but longer than some of the ones that made said threads), I think people at least know me enough to not be that curious. But it's a great thread idea for newer members that are still relatively unknown. Seeing as how you've posted some around here Channy, it might not be a bad idea for you to make a thread like that as well. If you plan on sticking around here, then we would like to get to know you better. :ryan:
