I am not sure why there isn't a thread like this up already :mokken: (and if there is then I am blind.)

It is simple enough, what are your top 5 Favourite TV Shows of all time? Give a reason why they are your favourite as well.

These are mine, in no particular order because I love most of them equal.

1. Six Feet Under.
I Love this show so much. It has the best ending to any show i have ever seen in my life. It is about a family who runs a funeral home and is really just about their individual lives. It is a drama and I guess you can't really explain any more about it without giving things away or making it sound shite. But this really is a great show.

2. The Vampire Diaries.
Yes, yes. Girly vampire show full of pretty people. Everyone says that this ripped off twilight but It is far better than twilight (and the books came out first). It is much more 'realistic' with the vampire lore, the characters are really great and they all act really well. It's always exciting and every episode makes you want more! I hate having to wait a week for each episode!!!

3. Pushing Daisies.
I only recently started watching this. Though it's been out a few years. It is about a pie maker who can bring people back from the dead, he brings his old childhood crush back and things really go from there. It is so quirky! I've not seen anything like it. It's colourful and fun and every episode is interesting. Not one bored me or felt too long. The characters are the best thing about it too.

4. Breaking Bad.
This show is so exciting and well written, it's another one of those shows that has you at the edge of your seat by the end of each episode! Sometimes it's a bit slow, but the slow parts always end up building up to something huge! The new season starts up soon and I am very excite /smug

5. Firefly.
People who have seen this show will understand why it is a top 5. It's funny, great characters and an awesome story. It's such a shame that it got cancelled before we could find things out about some of the characters. :( Once again the characters are probably the best ting about this, they're all fun and loveable. Jayne Cobb is the best :griin: (I used the word characters too many times >_>)

6. OZ.
YES, I AM ADDING A SIXTH coz I cannot believe I forgot this off my top 5! Oz is a show about a high security prison in america and about the lives of the inmates in it. It's a really brutal and raw show. You see a lot of violence etc and sometimes it's even a little hard to watch ahaha. But my gosh it is brilliant! I love it to death. I recommend this to any one.

Special mentions to: Game of Thrones, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Inbetweeners, Skins (Gen 1 only), Seinfeld, Dead Like Me, Dexter, Flight of the Conchords, Castle :-)rage: I really want this in my top 5), Arrested Development, Californication, Scrubs, Extras, the Lost Room, Supernatural and House. Because I love all of these almost as much as my top five. :mokken:

My favorites, in no order because they are all fabulous

1. How I Met Your Mother- It's so amazingly hilarious, and Barney/Neil Patrick Harris makes this show. With his awesomeness and random rules and his picking up of chicks is just so funny. Lovelovelove this show. oh and BARNEY X ROBIN :tori:

2. Pretty Little Liars- The acting, the story, and the main four girls are all so likable. You are constantly wondering, "Who is A?" and you think you gather clues but then something new comes up that contradicts it. They wrap up the sub-plots into the main plot and everything is really well developed.

3. Breaking Bad- This show is so frickin amazing :rage: Aaron Paul :inlove: The acting and photography/scenery is amazing, and you see a totally different side to Bryan Cranston. (way different than Malcom in the Middle :lew:) The acting is very good, and it's a show with no real good vs. bad side, which I like. Jessie is reason enough to watch the show :cali: They're making a new season, but I'm not sure what it'll be about. We'll have to wait and see!

4. The Office- It's not as good since Michael left, but it is still hilarious. I love Dwight :cali: It's just so funny and you really grow on the characters. Like Dwight, Jim, Stanley, Ryan, Pam...

5. Glee- Yes, I am a Gleek. I adore Lea Michelle, and Naya Rivera. They're voices are so amazing, and I love their characters :lew: The show has had some pretty crappy episodes; my favorites were in season 1. But I think lately they have been better. Either way I'm addicted to this show. So good :griin:

There are some I could not fit on the list like Malcolm in the Middle, I LOVE LUCY , Seinfeld, Flight of the Conchords, The Middle, and Supernatural. There are probably more...

1) psych - i love how he is a fake psychic detective and yet keeps one-uping the police to solve cases

2) trailer park boys - a canadian tv show that ended in 2007, i still watch teh episodes and laugh to this day. 3 guys doing get rich quick schemes to retire back in their home area of a trailer park,

3) how i met your mother - barney makes this show.. i stand by that.. i have even quoted him a few times..which i dunno if its a good thing or bad thing..lol i am gonna be curious as to when ever they decide to end the series how they will work bob sagat (the narrator) in the mix.

4) rob dyrdek's fantasy factory - he is kinda my hero. the shananagans that he does in that building.. from new business ideas to road trips and adventures. i always said, i want the bmx version of the fantasy factory.

5) that metal show - its not a sitcom or show but a talk show on vh1 classic that keeps you updated to what is going on in the metal and hard rock scene. i liek how they have guests on talking about project, the debates (many i disagree with) and even the where are they now parts.. learning about what ever happened to a lot of bands.


i could also add more, but i'd be here all night.. and i went tv shows.. not cartoons..lol

Top Gear
For a time the UK version was funny and entertaining but the quality declined when Top Gear USA came out. :x Hopefully, it'll rebound.

Spartacus
Started slow, got epic later on. There's a ton of profanity, sex, violence and depravity. Usually things I dislike. I like the theme of brotherhood, sacrifice and freedom, etc. The acting, writing, and other aspects are solid, too.

Doctor Who
The writing and way they can use time, history, science and a wide array of things and make it humorous & interesting in the process is cool.

Merlin
First few seasons were good. Its starting to decline. Ironically, the decline seems inversely proportional to their budget and production quality increasing which is odd. :cookie:
 
Charmed:
My all time favorite show. I just loved it while it was on the air and watched it religiously every week for the new episode, and watched all the reruns on TNT. Now a days I still watch it from time to time on that WE station (here in the USA. I believe it's another women central type station, like Lifetime). I cried during the final episode.

Though the season progressively got worse.....I hated the 5th and 8th seasons the most. The series was definitely at it's peak in the beginning, 1-4. 5-8 were either meh, or bad. But it's still one of those fandoms I love, and it's a show that I'll never stop loving.

The Tudors:
I'm very much interested in Henry VIII and his six wives, specifically Anne Boleyn and Kathryn Howard. While some things are historically inaccurate, it's easily forgivable due to the amazing talent on the show.

South Park:
Yup. South Park. It never fails to make me laugh.

Nip/Tuck:
I have no idea why, but I just loved this show.....maybe it's Julian McMahon. He was on Charmed and my interest in him brought me to Nip/Tuck. It's such a soap opera....sex, violence, crazy people, plastic surgery.....in so many ways it's beyond ridiculous, but that's what made it so interesting.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia:
Another show that always makes me laugh. It kind of reminds me in Seinfeld in a way that it's kind of a show about...nothing. Well, it's about four friends and Danny DeVito who own a bar. But the mischief and oddities that happen in every episode makes it interesting, and at times: down right funny. I like the humor of the show.
 
in no real order:

firefly
the greatest sci-fi ever made, either for tv or film. the fact that it was cancelled is the greatest crime to humanity ever. it was superbly written, and you really get the feeling that everyone on the cast and crew had their whole heart in making it the best it could be. if i could afford it, i would personally buy the rights to it from fox so that it could be brought back.

doctor who
the longest running tv show of its kind in history. most people in britain have grown up with doctor who being on telly, and have some sort of sentimental attachment to it. it isn't the best written or best produced thing out there, but everything about it just works, and it's great entertaining fun to watch.

spaced
another very brilliantly written show, full of all kinds of pop culture referenecs to its time. i didn't see it when it was originally on cos i was a bit too young, but i've caught up since and love everything about it. it's one of those shows where you notice something new every time you watch it, and it's still hilarious and quotable today.

blackadder
my favourite british comedy ever. the jokes are simple, which gives it it's charm, and rowan atkinson is what makes it so good, with the way he delivers his lines.

game of thrones
i've still only seen series 1, and i'm waiting for 2 to be released on dvd so i can watch it all in one go. it's been unbelievably well made from every aspect and it deserves all the praise it gets. definitely the best show currently on telly.

In current shows and in no particular order...

1. Community
I find this show to be really fun. It's episodes are thematic and the way the characters interact with each other and grow with each other is really neat to watch. It's comedy is decent and it's just an overall entertaining show with the right amount of comedy and story.

2. Revenge
Good GAWD I love this show. Not just for the amazing acting(Madeline Stowe deserves SOME kind of award for her performance) but for the amazing writing. After watching the first season I found that this show was really thought out and it managed to surprise me in ways I never thought. It's a bit campy and fun and I love that in a show. I'm usually not one for shows like this but I found this one to be done fairly well and have really great writing. It's really one good genuine drama that's not based off a book series and I think that's what I enjoy most about it.

3. Happy Endings
I mostly just watch this one for the comedy(I actually laugh out loud watching this >.>), the ridiculous yet semi relatable characters and the amazing portrayal of a gay character who's not always whining about being accepted or prancing around like a girl.

4. Pretty Little Liars
I mostly got into this show because of the dark premise. I love the mystery, the production is top notch and the acting is actually decent. The thing I love most though is how STUPID the girls are in this show. Hot, but stupid. They make so many stupid choices in the show but the fun part comes from me talking to the tv screen while one of the hot main characters decides it's okay to be careless and not lock the doors to their house while they take a shower or something.

5. Game of Thrones
This show is so amazing - so amazing in fact that I don't even want to read the books. Which is a shocker because I've done that with many shows I liked(PLL being an example). I can find no faults with the show what soever. The gore the action the drama and the stories of the characters are all just so entertaining. I really can't wait for the rest of season two to be over. I really hate getting so connected to characters and seeing them killed off though. :sad3: That's happened a lot with this show.

I noticed someone else listed Pushing Daisies. Good God I miss that show more than ever. :sad2: It was so amazing and that narrator's voice was so soothing. :hmmm:

Pushing Daisies
I have only finished this show recently enough, but I knew as soon as I had started watching that it would be in my top 5. It follows a piemaker who can bring anything dead back to life by touching it once, and make it dead again by touching it twice. If something stays alive for more than a minute then something else will die in its place. He ends up working with a private detective as well as running his pie business. It all starts when he brings back his childhood sweetheart(who is the same age as him having only died recently). Everything about the story and characters is perfect. The character relationships are second to none, Ned and Chuck's relationship is my favourite one ever.

The Wire
It is about a particular police unit investigating a large drug organisation in Baltimore. There is nothing else like it, as it is actually a very good cop show. It is incredibly realistic which actually adds to the suspense and drama. The police have to argue to get warrants they need, they don't work out what is going on based on weirdly accurate guesses with no evidence, it takes ages to get a wiretap on phones they need etc. . The acting is first class, and once again the character relationships are incredibly well done. Omar is possibly one of the best characters ever made

Firefly
It is definitely the best sci-fi series I have ever seen. It takes place on a firefly-class spaceship called Serenity, and is set in a world where humanity has terraformed quite a few planets. The superpowers of the world (mainly China and America) combined to form the Alliance which is now effectively a world government. Before the series begins there is a war between the Alliance who want all planets under one rule, and the Independents who think each planet should be free to choose. Naturally the Alliance win. The crew of Serenity are all amazing, particularly how they grow and go on to interact with each other. They all have intriguing secrets and pasts that are only brushed upon. Also Mal and Inara are the second best couple ever, no other show managed such brilliant sexual tension without overplaying it for ages.

Twin Peaks
It is definitely the strangest show in the entire world, well the strangest that is any good. The first episode sets up this idyllic, soporific, stifling town called Twin Peaks that is rocked by the murder of Laura Palmer. Laura was the prom queen, helped out with the meals on wheels, tutored the disabled, was well known and loved. So naturally her murder shocks the town. The pilot plays like a soap albeit with some subtly off-putting aspects that appealed to me, particularly the scene at the train car. It really picks up in episode 2 shifting the focus from town to murder and starts to become a bit more surreal, by now I was really warming to the series. The third episode was amazing, a strong episode and I really felt like I was on top of all the strangeness. Then the end of the episode was just....there is nothing else like it. Well except for that scene in The Simpsons that parodies it

Sarah & Steve
It was a very short show, maybe ten episodes long and each episode was about ten minutes. It was about a couple (Sarah and Steve obviously), filmed in a kind of documentary style. They would each record a video diary discussing the events of the last few days and each episode flicks between the two. So you would see two different interpretations of the same events back to back. It generally focused on their fights or falling outs, that kind of thing. Despite being quite humorous for the most part it actually deals with a quite an emotionally complex relationship. You really feel for these characters and how in love they are, despite them never being onscreen at the same time. I tried to show it to a few pals here, but the accents were too thick for them to understand

02. Suits
I'm a huge fan of law, and I've seen a lot of criminal justice shows on television. But I can easily say that I don't think anything tops this show. I'm more of a person who loves what goes on behind the scene (going to school to be a paralegal), so seeing everything that the lawyers do to make sure that a problem DOESN'T go to court really gets me hooked. Not to mention that the writing for the show is amazing, and I love the chemistry between the characters. They all mesh so well.

To be honest, those are the only two shows I follow religiously, but a few other shows that I'm a fan of are The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and White Collar.

P.S - I'm a big fan of the USA Network in general. Haha.
 
i tried watching the pilot of suits, and i found it really dull. it seemed to be trying to be a modern day version of mad men, without the interesting characters. i also thought they tried to force far too much character set up into the pilot, and too much back story for it to be of any interest. which is a shame, because i really wanted to like it.
 
i watched a couple of old episodes of red dwarf the other day, it reminded me of how totally amazing it was, well, before Kochansky came along... or however you spell her name

Doctor Who, probably borerline obsession with that one, went to the convention this year and I got Matt Smiths autograph :) I vaguely remember watching it as a kid and being terrified of the daleks, they dont really hold the same fear with me anymore, well, at all really, theyve got a bit stale, the Weeping angels are scary as shit though <_< Ecclestone will always be my favourite

Oh my god Lost!!! Id never seen it before, and the boy bought the box set and made me sit and watch the whole lot of it, we had a proper lostathon, and I had to begrudgingly admit it was absolutely amazing. Alot of people seemed to slate the ending, and until I watched it, from what id heard and thought it was, it was nothing like I imagined and thought the whole series bar a few shaky episodes in season 4 was absolutely amazing. I think the first 3 series were the best for me - though I wouldnt really say any of it was bad

Il always have a lasting love of Buffy the vampire slayer (y) I got all the VHS boxsets then replaced them with DVD

Really enjoyed A Game of Thrones aswell, ive had to invest in the first book I enjoyed it that much
 
1. Once Upon A Time

Fairy Tales have always fascinated me, so this TV Series was definitely on the top of my list. I love how they combine all of the fairy tales and mix it up so that it still follows the same sort of path but not how it usually went in the book. It is awesome. :ryan: Every episode amazes Steve and I. <3

2. Revenge

This is just too good! It gets better every episode. Everything is just so sneaky and well thought out. I love how Emily is always five steps ahead all the time. It always leaves Steve and I sitting on the edge of our seat.

3. Awkward

Steve and I love this too. It's good we love watching the same things. >.< It's basically just a really funny highschool show about a girl who is stuck in the middle of a love triangle. Her councillor is really wierd but funny too.

4. Housos

Just a funny Aussie TV Show about what it's like to be a Houso. XD I love the way it portrays them. It's so effing true!

5. True Blood

One of my favourite Vampire TV Shows. The storyline is really intriguing and very addictive.

The Young Ones.
Clearly the greatest TV show ever made. That is because comedies are the best kind of TV shows, and The Young Ones is the best comedy. The show is about 4 university students who never go to university and it's just about the ridiculous and extremely contrived things that happen to them. In one an Atomic bomb lands in front of their fridge and one of the people keeps trying to make it explode by hitting it with a sledge hammer and then a demolition ball etc etc. Another guy uses it to blackmail the government, someone else tries to sell it, and the other guy builds a shelter consisting of a table with a bit of cloth over it right in front of the bomb.
And the jokes are amazing.

2) The Sopranos.
It's been described by its creator as a morality play, about how the main character, the head of the New Jersey Mob, Tony Soprano has the opportunity to make the right decision morally, and how he continually fails. That being said he doesn't always make the wrong decision, but he certainly doesn't become a better person over the course of the series. I really like it because at the heart of the show it's about characters, not about the Mob. So there's Carmela Soprano who is this incredibly classless mob wife, who is obsessed by conspicuous consumption, expensive Gucci bags etc, and never hesitates to tell people how much a piece of art she owns costs etc. However, at the same time she's incredibly frustrated. She just wants to do the best she can for her family, which often means staying with Tony even though he has multiple affairs, and she ends up resenting her daughter's education, even though she wanted her to be well educated. It's brilliantly written as no character is two dimensional. It's also quite funny, there are certain events that are played for laughs, like when one character kills a dog, not normally very funny, but it is in the Sopranos. There are also other moments which are funny, but less straight forward, at the end of season 2 which is funny, but what you are laughing at is also the disintegration of someone's life and their sanity.
It'll probably disappoint you if you want something like The Godfather or Goodfellas. It's far less violent and less about organised crime than those movies, but it's also much better.

3) The Wire.
It's about the drug trade and the resulting violence in Baltimore. It's also about how the system is failing everyone. The police are not equipped, and not really that interested in putting a stop to the drug trade. What's more important is that they are seen to be trying, drugs on the table is what somebody says. It's an indictment of the way American society and government has failed its people, in particular its poor. It also has some beautiful scenes. Avon and Stringer in the penthouse apartment at the end of series 3. The Bunk and Omar talking about the loss of community. It's great, but also quite depressing.

4) A Very Peculiar Practice.
It's a black surreal comedy set in a GP practice in an English University during the 80s. It's very funny, but also quite hard to describe. Anyone who does not like it is a 888888******

5) Seinfeld.
Seinfeld is quite easy to describe, as it's a show about nothing. It has four characters, all of whom are cunts, but also very funny. Especially George and Kramer.

5) Mad Men.
I love Mad Men. It is probably the most beautiful looking TV show ever, which is ironic, given how ugly many of the characters are. It's about an Advertising company in the early to mid 60s, and the people who are part of the company. There are no killings, though there is a slightly Spinal Tap-ish Lawnmower incident. It's a drama about people and their relationships with one another.
 
This is fucking impossible. Hmm I'll try to leave out WWE shows and kids show, since some would consider that unfair. :jtc:

1) House

House has always been a bit of a secret show I've liked very much. Not many people know that I like it. I've been watching it for at least 6 years now. There's just something about it I really like. It's kept me hooked all these years.

2) Psych

This show is pretty damn funny. I like to watch it sometimes. I originally only watched it to see John Cena on the episode he did but after that, I stuck around.

Okay, I'm gonna break my own rules right now.

3) Zoey 101

This show was completely awesome. It's definitely a contender for my favorite show of all time. The characters were awesome and all that. Every episode was just.... Cool. This show was everything I wanted out of teenhood.

4) That's So Raven

Hehe.... Good times. I think I have like, every episode of this show ever on VHS. That's how awesome this show was. It lasted a pretty long time too. Another hilarious show.

5) Drake & Josh

Another awesome one. I'm glad they still show re runs of this show. It was just too awesome. The Christmas movie/TV special is one of my favorite movies ever.
