Thank God for that. That cow has been milked WAY too many damn times. But I can see the faboys wont take this lying down and it wont be long before one or more start up the rumor again.
I think that's why he did it. To 'scotch rumours', with every announcement that SE make about an upcoming game, there are always rumours that it'll be FFVII. And when it turns out to not be FF7 there's always dissapointment. Which isn't helpful for whatever game they're trying to market.

Jolly good. No more dark clouds *ahem* of a potential remake hanging over our heads, then. So Square Enix will focus either on new games, or those deserving of being remade~

As for the fan's probable reaction...
Nothing beats the sweet music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison! Uwee-hee-hee!

UPDATE:

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase is equally pessmistic about the prospects of a Final Fantasy VII remake. The reason? "This issue is related to whether a Final Fantasy 7 remake will happen or not," Kitase told Ultimania magazine. "It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time."

I'm glad they won't make FFVII remakes. I wouldn't mind more, but give others a chance. I agree about 3-D I and II posts made by some of you, and I hope that happens someday. Maybe we learn more about Garland or the Emperor, respectively.

I feel some sympathy for the fanboys/girls, but these news came from the horse's mouth. If they protest by not buying games from SE, good luck. I think VII was all they bought anyway.

I still feel sympathetic, but I hope they don't whine about it. I'm a big fan of FFIX and it never had any remakes done. How do you think I feel?

Thank god is all I can say. Hopefully all the spammy remake threads will quiet down now. I might sound harsh, but some people's desire for a remake bordered on obsession.

I probably would have bought the remake and I would have interested in the visuals but... that's all I would care about. I downloaded the original from PSN and I'm happy with that TBH.

Even though I would be interested in the visuals... I probably won't like them. Or the voice acting. The 3-D Cloud is just so annoying and is far from I imagined him to be when I played the original all those years ago.

Move on and try to make some more classics.

jolly good. i also hope they abandon any interest in remaking other games, 'cause they've done every pre-VII game at this point, just shy of overhauling the in-game graphics of V and VI. some fresh material would be nice.

Wow, I might be the only one sad about this.

I know, I can't believe so many people are happy about this. Though I can't be sure this hasn't just been said to get people to quiet down about it, and not have them expecting, but then some time in the future, who knows how many years, make an announcement to shock everybody, that is the opposite of this (saying that there will be one). :hmmm:

This is just my wishful thinking though, I just refuse to believe that there is zero chance of their ever being a FFVII remake in all of time... :|

But between this, and other stuff that has been going wrong, I think I'm starting to lose my mind...not really, but an abomination RP character could spawn from it. /random paragraph

Seeing as though out of all the SE staff Nomura is my personal favourite, I am inclined to believe what he has to say. It doesn't completely confirm that a remake will never happen, but it sounds rather conclusive that it is not on SE's agenda anytime in the near future.

If they are to remake it, have one done for 2017 - the 20th anniversary of FFVII's release. That would make more sense than doing it now. I don't know whether or not a FFVII remake will be demanded then. I certainly am not begging for one. Personally I have seen enough of the Compilation.

I want SE to advance forward and make new games. I want them to focus on new games. I want them to learn from their mistakes from FFXIII and avoid doing it again later. I don't want them to branch off to other digital media either. Games first.

SE have worked on more than one game at a time, they've shown that, they could sometime in the future work on an FFVII remake, and still work on other projects, so they could still be "advance forward" at the same time.

I'm aware of that, good point. =) SE has shown that they can simultaneously work on multiple games. But in this context, I just feel that a FFVII remake would be really draining to make, especially if it is to be put on the PS3. If it was to be remade now, I can see the budget of its development being somewhere high like FFXIII, with a quite a lot of staff working on it.

I would prefer to have them focusing on new games as much as possible. Focus money on new games, focus employees on new games, focus time on new games etc. Either that or hand another developer to handle a remake if it's ever to be considered.

I just wouldn't find it fair if the other games in the series didn't get a chance to be remade. They're milking FFVII way too much. Though I don't mind whether a remake for VII is made or not, they should at least consider releasing another for I-V, perhaps even VI, in 3-D.

We already know the situation between Cloud and Sephiroth. I want to know more about Garland and the Emperor; I actually want to hear more from Cecil and Golbez; I wanna see Bartz fighting in 3-D besides in Dissidia. Heck, I want to see all battles in 3-D. Maybe it's a bad idea, but isn't that worth a try?

I would also love some voice acting for everyone from I-VI, more from VIII (as Squall's and Seifer's voices are heard in Kingdom Hearts II) actual voices for IX (as we only know Vivi's voice in, once again, Kingdom Hearts II).

I don't hate VII. Really, I'd play it if I ever find a copy. But enough is enough. SE was getting behind it too much, too long. It's like the other games don't even exist. And now that Mr. Nomura has stated there won't be a remake for PS3 (at least not soon), I'm relieved that they'll at least leave VII alone for now. Like I said, give other games a chance. They're not so popular because SE didn't get behind them much, even when VII became everyone's favorite.

That, and I'm happy that they have time to make new games. I want to see what they come up with.

The be fair, people are openly happy about this announcement because it's like beating a dead horse. Every time there's a gaming convention or a new title has been finished it's a case of "Will Final Fantasy VII be remade?", it's a boring topic now with the same answers, thankfully, Nomura openly admitted it's unlikely.

Remakes in general aren't totally necessary, Final Fantasy I-VI I can understand since it gives people a chance to play the older games, and since they'll be on the NDS/PSP it's a case of large profit, low costs. Anything over VI shouldn't be remade, including FFVII.

I don't quite agree, Mercurial. I'd love a remake of FF VIII. Moreso than a remake of VII, which I want as well. I also want a remake of VI at some point. Anything after IX would be preposterous for the current gaming era, though. X and XII already look fairly amazing...though, honestly, an HD touchup like God of War received would be nice.

I'm not saying people don't want a remake, there's just no point in remaking anything above VI. Why spend a lot of money and a whole load of staff on doing a remake when the potential is there for newer Final Fantasy titles to make a larger profit and sell better? Final Fantasy VII is probably the only exception in the series that would outsell a new title based on it's fanbase.
