Harry potter is awesome :ryan:
Someone spoiled it for me though :rage:

Anyway, im glad i never remade my entry i wouldnt have had a chance :ryan:

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalso faith :hmmm: i have a good idea for this one but finding a stock might be hard :hmmm:

Love the entries this week. xD They look really nice. :ryan:

I thought you were entering Lewis. :wacky:

I'ma browse my ass off for the Faith theme. xD

...Ps. Faith as in ... Trust, believe, right? :ahmed: Not the ... Buffy and Faith thing? :wacky:

That's right, Kira. Although, you can interpret "Faith" anyway you want to, one would think. Whether you make a signature with religious connotations, or about trust, or... about the Buffy character xD

My entry is already well under way. I'm happy with it. ^_^ this was a good theme, lots of ways to interpret it. Ambiguous things to describe/illustrate always make the best entries!

I'm having trouble. :hmph:

I'll go picture hunting again after work tomorrow. Then I'm off for two days so. -.- I SHOULD get SOMETHING. :rage:

Dragon Mage, I never said they weren't related, but they're not the same thing and won't look the same. Related? Maybe. But tags about ninjas and tea ceremonies are going to be completely different. Japan obviously has many things you can make a tag about. I don't see how what you said about "identifiable" things is even relevant either because I wasn't talking about that. All I said was that your posts:
I mean geez, sometimes a person can run into inspiration trouble with the theme, but dang....
Everyone knows pretty much all about Japanese popular culture, which is summed up in ninjas, katanas, seafood and magical girls in school uniforms.
this theme seeing as how it's been pretty well done to death by the internet and everything already.
gave me (in my opinion) the impression of you being short sighted.

Oh, yeah, I think we left that topic about a page back.

If you really want to discuss my short-sightedness, then please, let's go to PM's and not clog up the thread with unrelated material. Otherwise, you're issue with my supposed "short sightedness" is solely your problem; no one else doth protest at all. I've already explained about highly identifiable things associated with a person/place/thing (like red hair and Irish/Scottish peoples), even though it may not be absolutely true, and I'm not going to write a book about it now simply to assuage the perturbation of a single person. On a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with it, nonetheless. So no offense, but this isn't really the place to upbraid me about my vision, so let's take it to PM if you wish, eh?

And by the way, the 'summing up Japanese pop culture' was said in light jest. I thought that was obvious but...

On to thread-related news, I'm seriously hating myself for not having any brushes. I simply cannot get them to work.Does anyone know the exact steps for installing brushes for GIMP? Because this is just being a major pain. :\

The SOTW themes aren't unrelated in a SOTW discussion thread. GFX help might be counted as unrelated. :ohoho: If you're going to post opinions then don't get annoyed because someone disagrees and replies to you in a thread meant for open discussion.

About brushes though, I don't use GIMP but in PS you have to go to the brush menu and load the brushes to your palette to use them. GIMP might have something similar. Or ask someone here: http://www.finalfantasyforums.net/help-service.html

oh you guys

whats the theme again?....oh aye faith.
I actually had a look on deviant art last night for some images. Im tempted to go for something religious but ive never done anything like that before so il see how it goes.

I wanna get in too^^'' can I ?
I guess the theme it is still *faith* right? -.-'

Yes, the theme is Faith, ya gotta send it to Vikki/.Fran before/on this Friday. :ryan:

I just finished mine. :griin:

Entry done :ryan:
I am very very happy with it. I debated for about 20 mins about adding text or not. See what you guys think when the polls go up :ryan:
Il send it in 2moro.

I'm glad you guys are finding this one inspiring. Multi-interpretations always result in interesting entries, I find.

Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with. ;D

I've been trying to enter SOTW more... but all I can ever think of is just "find a stock that kinda represents the theme and add some effects". No creativity at all. Maybe I need to have long walks again, that's when I usually get ideas. 8(

:lew:

Same here... That's really the reason I haven't felt inspired... xD It seems to creep back slowly, though...

I was pretty satisfied with my entry. Took me a while to think of how I wanted to take the "Faith" theme.

I got out of a slump by stopping using stock images.
I found that when i went back to rendered stuff i was able to make tags that i could think about alot more. HAving that transpareny with a render is a HUGE advantage i think. As you can tuck things behind and hide what you dont want.
Worked for me :ryan:

I was thinking of doing that but I usually try to make a rough render of the stock so I can do that. I don't like the renders people make anyway. :sad3: CLOUD FROM ADVENT CHILDREN. :rage:
I think it's more that I make the same sort of effects rather than experimenting or using more manipulation in my tags. Like that tag I made for the love theme, I actually put some effort into it.

I really only ever render resources like vectors etc. I stay away from hair -.-
Il get all my renders from sigresource or gfx resource or whatever. I recently logged into planetrenders for the first time in like a year and was nicely surprised. ALot of good stuff there right now.
You should try a render tag and see what like it is. imo constant work using stocks is mind numbing.

I'll have a go. A change is probably the best option TBH.

I saw a good way to render hair actually. You use the channels and curves... can't explain it but it does give you a decent cut when there's hair. I think it'll only work with white backgrounds though.

The first couple of steps I mean.

Aye iv read about that before never actually looked at it in detail though or tried it myself. LIke i said i only really ever cut easy things. Cutting people is quite hard work and when you spend a while making the tag aswell the whole process takes forever -.-
On another note. Will get my entry sent in now i think.
