What presents are you buying for other people?

Currently I have 10 nieces and nephews D: And I like to be the cool aunt so I am buying a present for each of them.

I won't put their names so they will be referred to as nephew #

Niece 1: She's very artistic so I got her a bead set, an art craft where you decorate a jewelry box, and glass flowers that you paint to look like stained glass.

Nephew 1: Either paper jams or a Wii game. I haven't figured out which game yet though.

Nephew 2: Mario vs Donkey Kong. He loves mario right now so this game is perfect for him.

Nephew 3: He likes super heros so i got him the first season of the Xmen cartoon and a wolverine action figure. I couldn't find any decent ones in the story and all action figures made today suck, so I found a cool one on amazon.com

Nephew 4: He has autism and likes these squishy toys so I bought him some of those.

Niece 2: She loves disney princess and the only doll she doesn't have is Jasmine. Jasmine is impossible to find D: but I found one on amazon.com

Nephew 5: Mario vs Donkey. Different family from nephew 2, and he also loves Donkey Kong

Nephew 6: Lego Star wars for the Wii. He loves star wars and this game iss age appropriate for him. he would never figure out how to play force unleashed XD

Niece 3: She's 1 so I'm not sure yet. Will be a simple baby toy.

Niece 4: She is under a year old so like Niece 3, not sure yet.

As for John: I'll be getting him Kindom Hearts Birth By Sleep. He is a huge Kingdom hearts fan and does not have this game yet.

Ohhhh ok for xmas I am giving:

For my Boyfriend:
  • Kinect + Kinect Sports,
  • A book he wanted called the Black Prisim,
  • Another book called the Zombie Survival Guide and
  • Super Scribblenaughts
For my Sister:
  • Some thingo that you plug into your car cigarette lighter and into your ipod so you can hear your music in the car and
  • An Andora Braclet (rip off of pandora but still pretty) with some beads :)
For My Best Friends:
  • Friend 1: A 500gig Portable Hard drive full of awesome TV shows and movies and I filled the box with awesome lollies like sherbies.
  • Friend 2: A Fish tank and a new Siamese fighter fish.
  • Friend 3: EB Games Gift Voucher and a Toon Link Plush Toy.
Everyone else like cousins just get money...besides mum and dad who told me I wasn't allowed to get them anything ;3;

This is an expensive Xmas :(

I only give gifts to my immediate family. We all have agreed for a 50$ limit per person/gift.

For my mother: A pair of earrings and the Christmas cd of Maria Carey (She loves Christmas songs)

for my father: a 50$ golf town gift certificate. he wants a new putter but those things cost over 200$.

For my sister: A Tinkerbell collection figurine. (She has almost everything that is tinkerbell related)

for my other sister: A stainless steel spice rack for her kitchen and an HMV gift certificate.

I also bought a 30$ Australian wine bottle for my uncle because he's the one who is doing the Christmas party on my dad's side family this year.

I have to buy something for my grandmother but I have no clue what to buy.....

I am afraid to say that like every year I will buy nothing to no one. Which is not a monetary issue of any kind (my only issue with money is my hate towards it). No offense to anyone and to any beliefs & feellings that may be attached to what is known as 'Christmas' but I sincerily think it is a bunch of cr*p. It is but a corporate event that I personaly like to call 'Materialism Day'.

Don't get me wrong, it is still a beautiful thing when family and friends spend some quality time together and show their love to one another, only, not when it is 'forced' upon them.

I love xmas, sure its lost its old meaning but omg who doesn't love wrapping surprise gifts for other people and then seeing their faces light up when they get something awesome?
And all the delicious food and good company.

C'mon Baphomet, Lil' Grinchy, Lighten up, enjoy xmas for what it is :D

Fiance:

  1. New shoes.
  2. New back pack.
  3. New electric razor.
  4. A few DVD's that he's been wanting such as, 'Get Him To The Greek.'
  5. Top Gear DVD's.
  6. Guiness World Record Book 2011.
  7. Three Crystals with images inside of them, which you sit on this pretty light. =)
  • One has a Cobra snake in it. His favourite snake.
  • One says ' I Love you Today, Tomorrow and Forever,' and it has a bunch of love hearts throughout it.
  • Another one says, 'Love Forever', with a rose and love hearts above it.
There will more than likely be more than that in the end.

I'lll come back with what I'm getting my family later.

C'mon Baphomet, Lil' Grinchy, Lighten up, enjoy xmas for what it is :D

It is not a matter of being grinchy but of morals. We became an ignorant wasteful human being and it's got to stop. Do you really need that new pair of shiny earrings or that set of anime figurines or this and that and so on and so forth? Why don't we just use what we need in life to survive and help others. If Christmas is a symbolism of love don't you think we are doing it wrong? Think of all the people who can't afford food at all. Sure, most grocery stores and villages gatter some canned food and what not every year and blablabla but think about it; all the useless cr*p we buy one another at that time of the year vs. that minuscule amount of food? It's sickening. Most corporations that are manufacturing all of the clothes and useless trinkets we buy have sweatshops and the likes in third world countries.

Don't you get it? As we speak we are depleting all of Earth's ressources faster than it is replenished; and we overpolute with those massives landfills. At this time each year its like giving another sucker punch to the planet. For me, Christmas is synonym of death and greed.

For my mom's best friend, Jason...
He's awesome, one of my friends to. He has a SNES, so I was think about giving him one of my games, either Super Mario All-Stars, Secret of Mana, or (if I can bear being without it) Earthbound.

For my mom...
I can't afford any jewely or anything, so I'm guessing chocolate.

For my dad...
Baseball stuff, all the way.

For my girlfriend...
Mr. Saturn Air Freshener. They're super rare, so I'm having trouble...

I'm already done shopping for my husband.

-Wallet
-Watch
-Black jacket (not really leather, but it's still quite expensive)
-Hoodie Blanket (very similar to a Snuggie, but with a hoodie). This one is more of a 'fun' gift, almost like a joke.

For our daughter...

-Narnia 2
-Cherokee trenchcoat
-Panda hat
-Christmas dress
-Flute
-Camp toy set
-Comfy slippers for the house

And her Santa List :P

-Dominoes
-Wild animal set
-Doctor playset
-Stocking and black leather boots (to go with her Christmas dress)
-Bingo
-Deluxe Art Easel Set, with a chalkboard and everything (got this at Target for $5!!!) I think they messed up on the pricing. At Toys R Us, this one cost almost $70!

Not gonna bother including the small gifts for other family members.

While you are entitled to your opinion, this thread is about what people are buying friends/family for Christmas. Please do not derail the thread topic. You are welcome to make a topic about this in the Sleeping Forest if you like. Thanks. :)

Mothership. a diary. again. every fucking year. erm. gloves and scarf a cd and im after getting an LED brolly but it might not arrive in time... so she will have to wait for that

If only I could get away with that, Id never hear the end of it

If it was up to me, id just not bother. The foods good though....

Well, I'll only be getting presents for my parents, sister and girlfriend. :hmmm:

Dad:
Toolbox that fits into the pickup truck bed
Music Concert DVD's of some of his favorite musicians (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Stevie Ray Vaughan and ZZ Top)

Mom:
Epson Wireless Network Printer
Printmaster Photo Program
4 Nintendo DS games (Brain Age I and II, Mario 64 DS and Sonic Mega Collection)

Sister:
Mario and Luigi plush dolls

Girlfriend:
Confidential :hmph:

I plan on getting 1 more thing for everyone, except my sister (who's impossible to shop for). She'll be getting more than just 1 more thing, naturally. :lew:

The Christmas presents are at their easiest for me this year.

Mum: Take That's new album, Progress. She's a massive fan like me and she'll really love this when she gets it.

Dad: Brut aftershave pack. He specifically asked me for this, but he really does love his deodorant!

Sister #1: Money. She's off to University after the Christmas holidays, so will want it for food and stuff.

Sister #2: Enrique Iglesias's last album, Euphoria. She definitely wants this because she asked for it and idolises him.

Brother: A teddy hot water bottle. He sometimes gets cold in the night and I thought it'd be nice if he could stay warm in bed.

Grandma: Probably will get her the new Paul O'Grady autobiography, it'll get her laughing and she loves reading.

Stepmum: The same as Mum. Got her Progress, Take That's new album. I know she's been gunning for it as well.

I have a very small list of people to get gifts for.

My mother: A new Wii game. Thankfully her having a Wii makes it easier to find her a present.

My father: Me and my brother plan on getting him a new GPS to replace his old broken one.

My brother: A Gift Card from Amazon. Since he is like me and it is hard to keep up with the things he buys, a Gift Card is always suitable for him.

Next year will be different though now that I have a new baby to start buying presents for too.

We actually made a lot of stuff this year with my husband's blacksmithing skills out of old scrap metal--tongs for the father-in-law, a throwing knife for the brother-in-law, a door knocker for his grandmother, a knife with a sheath for my father, etc., and they came out pretty nice :D As for bought stuff, we got warm clothes items for both of our grandmothers, a couple of CDs for people, a Barnes and Noble giftcard for my dad who loves to read, a little coffee snack pack for Secret Santa at work, a restaurant giftcard for my uncle and his wife, and made a kitchen knife with a sharpener for the mother-in-law. Not sure what I'm getting my mom yet though, she's impossible to buy for :hmmm:

Honestly, I do think that this idea meshes a lot better with the original idea of Christmas than the rampant materialism that goes on :hmmm: Particularly if you celebrate the religious aspect, with the idea of self-sacrifice and whatnot. However, it is really hard for most people to break out of ingrained traditions, so if you try to go against it, and don't give people gifts, then the sad truth is that you are forced to consider whether a negative attitude from them is worth compromising your own values. It's sad that it has to be that way, but unfortunately not everyone is completely understanding of each other's values (you should've seen me try to get out of Thanksgiving this year :hmph:). I'm completely with you on not wanting to waste things; but then again, in my case I would also feel bad if my family (who's not particularly well-off) spent their money to give me gifts and I didn't return the favor. Because even if I asked them not to get anything for me, families are stubborn and they will try to anyway. So, whether everyone likes it or not, whether it's good for the planet or not, I doubt the tradition of material gift-giving at Christmastime will ever go away, unless we run out of the resources for it :/

The best thing you can really do, though, is try to give people gifts that they need, and are not just popular fads or gimmicks that are going to sit on a shelf and waste money and materials. Like, if something they use all the time breaks, then buying a new one for them to replace it or something--instead of letting them get away with replacing it themselves throughout the year if they can afford it, which I've had happen sometimes :hmph: Also, if you're able to make your own gifts, or at least cards, from things you have around the house, then that helps out a lot too. And buying recycled products, green products, products from small local businesses rather than imported or corporation goods, etc.

Just a friendly reminder that Baphomet's post was off-topic. This is a simple thread about what presents you intend to buy. So lets not post strictly to reply to that off-topic post. As it was said earlier, if you would like to debate the idea of Christmas and it's intent versus materialistic manner, then make a new thread regarding that. But DON'T continue it in this thread. Carry on.

For my dad: A fleece pullover from the Gap, the Pacific series on Blue Ray, Flash Gordon on Blue Ray, and a Dilbert desktop calandar for his work office.

For my mom: A Fleece jammie set from Target, a watch, santa cozy socks, flavored coffees, a vanilla cupcake body spray and lotion, and two flavored lip balms.

For some of my friends: Various scented Bath and Body works products like the hand sanitizers and lotions...and sets of cozy socks.

For the family member's name that I got to get a Christmas gift for: A check for $30 ...I'm just doing cash because then he can get something he really wants (and I'm not going to pretend I know what that is).

I didn't go crazy with the gift buying this year...the amount you spend isn't what its about anyways, its the thought.

I'm just buying presents for the family this year. I don't have any money to buy presents for my friends, and most of them are totally skint too, so we've just decided to go to the Christmas party and have a brilliant time than doing the whole present thing this year, which works for me.

Anyhoo, I still have some grandparents to buy presents for (what do you buy the people who have everything?) but apart from that, all my shopping is done!

Mum: PJ set. She picked it out, made it easy for me this year. Normally my mum is a nightmare to shop for.

Dad: Statler and Waldorf TShirt and Sock set. It made me laugh, it's perfect for him.

Brother: Miranda; Series 1. DVD. He loves the show (and I'm quite fond of it too!) and it was a bargain on Amazon.

Grandma: Leona Lewis' Tour CD/DVD. She loves Leona, so she should be quite happy with that.

Not a great deal, but, I only really buy for the people in the house + the grandparents. I don't get anything off my cousins anyway, so there's no point buying for them :lew:

My grandma gives me $400 every Winter to do some Christmas shopping for me and for others. Half the money for others and the other half for me.
Mom - I'm getting her some fine jewelery. That's usually all she likes gift-wise, and we get her a new piece every year. I'll probably get her a bracelet, considering she can't look too flashy in her job.

Grandma - New coffee pot. The one we have currently SUCKS. And we desperately need a new one, so I'll definitely be going through the kitchen supplies for a new one, a lot more tolerable too. I'm sure she'll appreciate it .

Grandpa - Coffee mug. He doesn't ask for anything because he's a Jehova's Witness and he doesn't celebrate Christmas. But I'm guilted into buying him something anyway. Doesn't really matter what it is, he'll appreciate it. He drinks coffee a lot, so I'll buy him a mug . lul.

Best Friend - Friendship rings. One for her and one for me, considering she already has all she wants for Christmas, I can give to her what I thought would be sweet - especially since she's not expecting it. They're going to have our names engraved on them with to clasped hearts next to them. It's super cute ~

As for me. . .well, I just want a PS3. Though there's no way I'm going to have enough for that after I'm done shopping for everyone else. :wacky: So I'll leave that on my wishlist for other people .

Just ordered the mother the LED Brolly. Hope it arrives in time.. ah well, il just have to cut her a picture out and say its on its way :wacky:
