Man reports UFO, finds out its the Moon

A British man called emergency services in panic to report a UFO hovering in the sky, only to ring back minutes later after realising it was only the moon.

Police in Hertfordshire, south of London, were stunned after the man called earlier this month saying: "There's something flying over our house, it's coming towards me now, with lights blazing.

"I don't know what the hell it is, it's not an airplane, but it's hovering."

But not long after describing the mystery craft to police and hanging up, the man sheepishly rang back.

"I made a mistake," the caller admitted.

"I thought I saw something that was really strange and it wasn't actually … You won't believe this, it's the moon."

Herefordshire police have released the bizarre phone call to remind people not block emergency service phone lines during the busy Halloween weekend.

I wonder how he confused the moon with an aircraft?

The moon stays in the same place. It doesn't hover toward anything with lights blazing away.

It just sits there and glows like it does every night. 0_o

I really hope he wasn't serious. >.<
 
Ah, slurry speech on the phone, no surprises there. I don't see how the moon can ever look like an invading spacecraft, so it makes me wonder what he was smoking as well. And one wonders why very few people take UFO reports seriously nowadays.
 
The guy was probably an australian, that would explain it.
Although the moon doesn't stay in the same place, it moves, but not at a speed that would be noticeable.
 
This happened to me once aswell. Mistaking the moon for a UFO is such an easy mistake to make. Seriously though thats quite daft. He mustve been welsh :hmmm:

There was no mention of slurry speech lol. =P They said he sheepishly called back a few moments later when he realised his mistake though. >.<

But I do wonder if he was smoking something. Things tend to move alot when you're high. :hmmm:

It says he is British and lives in London so no.
 
Probadly more correct to say he wasnt on anything. Not what he should have been taking anyway. At least he had the stones to phone back and say it was just the moon. That would be quite embarassing.
 
Well, this is just pretty sad. Was he day dreaming when he saw the moon or something? Ah UFO reports. Those are all false, whatever way you look at it. People will do this because they think they found an amazing discovery. They never do, and it always ends up being a hoax. I think this is pretty hilarious though. I know what the moon looks like, and what a UFO looks like. xD The guy must have been smoking something. :lew:

ellie dialled 999 while i was upstairs once, i was completely oblivious, til they rang back to see if everything was ok :hmph:
 
God this reminds me of our old "Does the moon exist" thread XD But pretty funny. I bet he felt pretty stupid when he realized it was the moon and not a UFO.
 
Seriously what the hell... how can you mistake the moon for a ufo .... i want the drugs that this guy was taking XD

He next call will be OMG.... there a cow jumping over the moon :p
 
Damn, that seriously was embarrassing for the man XD. To mistake the Moon as a UFO, he really needs to get his eyes checked. :rofl:
