Is the first Final Fantasy you played your favorite?

I've been thinking for a while and I realized that perhaps the only reason FF8 is my favorite Final Fantasy is because it was the first one I played. Idk if it's just me, but I was wondering if other people feel that their first Final Fantasy is their favorite, but mostly because it was their first. I mean I still love FF8, but maybe if I had played FF7 before it, I'd prefer 7? Yeah...it's confusing. Well I just want to here what you guys think.
 
Yes, without a doubt FFVII was my favourite. I loved the characters, the villain in the form of Sephiroth, the terrible shock when Aerith was killed. Maybe it was because it was my first, but I loved that game.
 
No, it wasn't. My first FF was FF II(IV) on the SNES way back when, and while I loved it and it is in my top three, I prefer FF VII and VI.
 
My first was VIII and it is my favorite. I assume it is because I played it first -- I have played most of the rest and intellectually know most of them to be superior, yet VIII will always hold that top spot for me

VII was my first, and it's not my favourite. I think it's cause it got so milked a few years back, with the movie and games... (though 2 great things came out of that, DoC and Advent Children.) but I prefer either X or VIII over it. I hold VII dear to my heart but it's not my favourite.
 
My first Final Fantasy was VII. It was awesome. :)

But then I didn't get VIII and IX when they came out. Later on I got a PS2 and found Final Fantasy X, got it, played it, love it. So after I completed it I went and bought IX, VIII, VI and V

X-2 and XII were ok...

I never played Final Fantasy XI but I was about to get it, never happened.

Can't wait until Final Fantasy XIII comes out! :eek:uttahere:
 
i think the question is kinda weighted funny. critically, FFVII was deemed the best of the franchise. additionally, because it was the first on it's system and a breakthrough rpg, many people who didn't normally play rpgs picked them up at FFVII. they became fans of the series and their first ff was VII. i think this factor sort of tips the scale. unfortunately, that's just how things go. no way of controlling it. but if you asked a set group of people, let's say 10 people who started playing FF's with FFI, 10 who started with FFII, etc. and made sure that all people in the group played FF's 1 - 12, and then asked them if the one they liked the most was the first one they played, i think that would give you a good idea. i hope what i'm trying to say makes sense...

of course, it isn't a perfect world, and not everyone can do crazy studies like that lol. forum's always a good alternative.

personally, i started with FFVII (by accident no less!) and i loved it. it's still my favorite despite the (somewhat) bastardization with the spinoffs.
 
My first Final Fantasy isn't on the list. It was Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1. I couldn't say what my number one favourite is with the FF games but I can say FFVI-FFX are my all time faves, but FFT is definitely earning of the rank too.
 
Hmm, kinda I guess. I mean, yes and no because while FFVII is my first FF game, I have quite a few favorite ones, FFVIII and FFX included. Personally, I love FF7 for the game it was (storyline, characters, game plot, music) and not really because it was my first FF game. Yes I suppose it helped that it was my first FF game, but in my opinion, it's one of my favorite ones simply because I loved the game itself. The same can be said about FFVIII and FFX. While they were the 2nd and 4th FF game I played respectively, they are still my favorite games. I can't really say which one I prefer more out of the three, to be quite honest...they were all very good and unique in their own way and that's good enough for me. I've stopped contemplating whether I prefer 'this from that' FF game because I don't really have a preference.
 
I think this is an interesting question, and something that I have thought about a lot myself.
FF7 had always been my favourite, and it was my first game. Likewise my friends first game was FF8, and he holds that as his favourite. Perhaps there is something special about the mark the first game leaves on you.

I also know there is asomething about some of the later gamers that started with FFX, FFXII or the spin-offs which prevents them from wanting to play games any earlier, and instead dedicate their lives to remake ideas so that they feel they can play them.

But anyway FF7 I'm not sure is my sole favourite anymore. I love it to pieces, and it is possibly my joint favourite. But FF6 quickly became my favourite soon after I started playing it. There are elements in both that I adore, and (while it is hard to pick any game that I enjoy more than another) these two must be equal on the top podium for me.

So as answer to your question, half and half. It is, and it isn't, as I'm indecisive. :monster:

My first FF was FFIX. It's not my favourite, but it's a close-run thing between it and FFVIII so it's pretty close to being so. I do think my enjoyment of FFIX is what made me such a big fan of the series, I was hooked from the start almost.
 
My first game was FFVII. I would say it is my favorite game, mostly because it is the game that got me into RPG's in the first place. Once I started to play this game, it opened up the RPG world to me. ;)) Seriously it is one of the few FF's that if I was really bored and didnt know what game to play, if I popped it in it would instantly take away any boredom.
 
My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy VII . I would have to say that so many people like this as there favorite. I found FFX was better by just a little. I found FFX to be my favorite even though I passed it a month ago. Well maybe I should wait till I finish XII and compare it to X. FFIV ds was the first version of IV I played. It was pretty good but I know that there are other FF's that were better. Overall VIII and X are my favs so far.

VI, IX, VII, VIII, X, IV, XII, V
 
My first Final Fantasy isn't my favourite. I played VII first, and while it is one of the best games out there, my favourite is Final Fantasy X. In fact my list probably goes X, Crisis Core, IX, then VII and VIII and VI in a virtual tie.

The one thing I can say about VII is that it was my first RPG and started an addiction that I hope is never cured. I had been wishing for a story driven experiience (with multi-layered characters and histories) and somehow I had missed out on SNES RPG generation. So in some ways, FFVII has a special meaning that not even FFX has.
 
Yes FFX is the first Final Fantasy I ever played and it is my favourite still to this day.

However I remember mentioning in another thread about how I was torn between FFVIII and FFX. I remember saying that they were both my favourite but if I had to pick one it would be FFX because it was my first ever Final Fantasy game.

If I had played FFVIII first I'd be saying that it was my favourite instead of FFX.
 
My favourite is FFIX but it's not the first one I played, FFVII was. Don't get me wrong, VII is a simply amazing game but imo I just don't think it compares to IX which is pretty much the dark horse of the FF series. FFVII just seems to be milked to the point you actually get annoyed it even existed D8
 
Well I would say FF I was my starting block for FF's, but it was not my favorite. I played the ever living heck of the game, but I had issues with the NES in general. For one the NES had no memory stick. So if perhaps say you had an NES that decides to erase any memory of the game you had saved up to a certain point, well you would be pissed like myself.

Aside from the Console itself, the game was a mind blow for that age. I mean I was 5 or 6 when the game officially came out and I had only been playing games like Contra, Mario Bros, and Excite Bike or whatever the name was. To me this game was in the top 3 favorite games, just because it was the founding game of the entire series. It was amazing as far as gameplay and I miss using "Lit 3" on creatures. It was also moderately difficult, especially without a guide at that age.

My favorite till this day though is still FFVII and FFVI shortly behind it. Amazing story lines, first CG cutscenes I've ever seen from FFVII and the character depth blew my mind. It was like listening to an interactive book at the same time choosing people's paths.
 
VII was my first and still is my favourite, altough it probably is more to do with the fact that it WAS my first rather than any logical r3eason. the marginhas definately narowed though, VIII IV and X are also firm favourites. But VII will always have that specialness to it for so many gay reasons. It was my first RPG as well as FF so I wa like woooah, theres actually a proper story to a game?! oooooh.

So yeah, I guess it will always be my faviourite xD

If id of played I or V first, Id never of played FF again, so im glad I started when I did :wacky:
 
X was my first, and it's probably my least favorite now. I was like twelve when I played it, and I guess I enjoyed it then, but my tastes have changed to the point where I just don't like any of the characters or the world anymore.
