When you buy a new game do you read the instruction booklet it comes with before you start playing so you can get a grip on the controls and other features? Or do you just jump right into the game without bothering to read the booklet?

Normally when I buy I new game I am excited to give it a whirl, so I almost never bother reading the booklet before I start playing. In fact the only times when I do bother reading the booklets are:

A: To read the character bios and background story.
B: When I am stuck and I actually need to know if there is something I am doing wrong.
C:To look at the pictures.

Now that a lot of games have compulsory tutorials at the beginning I don't really see the point in reading the booklets. I usually just figure out the controls and game features as I play anyway.

Anyway, do you read the booklet before you start playing a game?

I usually flip through it before playing the game just to see if there's anything of interest. I usually don't read through the entire thing though.

I'l have a flick through at the pictures and that's as good as it gets, unless there's a small bit of story to read about....but I never read up on the controls, Id rather fire up the game and yell at it for ten minutes if I cant figure something out than use common sense and read the booklet...

I'm usually too excited to read the instructions. Besides I'm a man, I don't NEED the instructions! Part of the game imo is finding out how things work but in the rare instance that I do get stuck then I'll flip through to see what's what.

Nah i ever bother reading the booklet either, when you buy a game your notinterested in reading :gasp: u just wanna play the game itself. The only time ive found myself reading the booklet is if im stuck at a certain bit and i think that there may be something in the booklet that could help me progress. Other than that it either stays in the case or winds up in the bin.

Rarely ever. The only time I ever read the booklet is when I haven't played the game for a while and I need a reminder on what the controls are, especially when you play two similar games that have different controls >.>, or if I miss something in game and need to know what the button is :wacky:

I usually always read the instruction booklet. I like learning what it has to say about the game and characters. Sometimes they even have little tips in there. I do enjoy looking at the pictures too.

I still have almost all of my instruction booklets from my N64 and SNES. I love saving those things! It's always fun to go back through the instruction booklet for any game and reread all the stuff in there and look at the pictures. Or maybe Im just weird.

Always just play the game and find out for myself really. I do read the booklets, but that either comes out of boredom or if I just want to check if there's something special I'm missing.

I normally always read the booklet. When I do changes. If I'm playing an RPG I always read the booklet first. The first ten or so pages of the booklet really set the scene for the game and starts me getting interested. The technical stuff is always covered in in-game tutorials so I don't bother reading that stuff. If it's any other kind of game I'll browse through it during loading scenes and boring bits in the game, so that I know whatever the book wants me to know:gasp:

I'll flick through it once I open the game case, mainly because my interest lies with who the characters are and their short bio. I'll look through the other pages too but I don't take the time to thoroughly read and understand them because let's face it - 90% of the time it sounds confusing on your first read-through. xD Might as well wait and play the game to better grasp how the battle-system/menu/playthrough work. Back then, I used to always read the booklet first, but recently I just find it kinda unnecessary because the game do provide tutorials too.

Only reason I ever cracked open one of those babies was for the artwork of the characters. XD Done it all my life, even when I was little. Nothing else from the booklet interests me.

i usually just start playing game and then maybe the next day or when im taking a break from playing the game, then i would read the book. but if im playing a sport game, the only time look at the book is to see the control set up and how to do some special moves. for rpgs, im deffinitely gonna read the book eventually, usually within the first couples of day of buying the game. but i always play first then read it after

I read the booklet on the way home too...I like to see what I've let myself in for. True, you don't always need it, I mean I played 2 whole discs of FFVIII before I read the booklet (cos I didn't have it) and I buy a lot of second hand games, that have no booklet with them

I tend to flick through the booklet, mainly read about the characters. I will consult the booklet if I dont understand something or get stuck lol.

A bit more effort please guys. More elabourate answers would be nice, some are slightly vague at the moment. Thank you=)
