This is something I've noticed about myself and I'm wondering if other people do the same.

Whenever you're fooling around with a layer opacity percentage, rotation degrees of an image, brush size, canvas size...just about anything in your program of choice when working on GFX, do you find yourself sticking to specific numbers?

I've realized that much more often than not, when changing the opacity of a layer for example, I tend to go by 25, 50, 75, or 50, 60, 70, 80, or even 25, 30, 35, 40 and so on.

I almost never have a random number like 74, 68, 33, or whatever, you know? Even if I'm watching the screen to see the effects of the changes I make, I still consciously round up or round down a number to be more uniform >_<

So anyone else do the same thing?

Oh yes,

I always do numbers that end with 5 or a 0.

I never do any type of random number.

It's weird, but random numbers really don't mean much in a work's quality.

I don't really stick to any specific number opacity and fill-wise. I mainly just reduce said opacity and fill until it looks good for what I have in mind. Now, if we were to talk about blending modes, I use screen, Linear Dodge, and hue A LOT! :lew:

When I sharpen something, I usually set the layer to 50% just to see how it looks and move on from there.

But apart from that, no, not really. When I change the opacity and fill of layers, I usually use the slider and move it up and down and judge what opacity looks best.

A lot of the time, my gradient maps are set to odd levels of fill and opacity.

Not that it matters... it's not like certain numbers make things look better, it's what ever you think is best.

I often stick to numbers that end in a 0 or a 5 as well, particularly when it comes to layer opacity percentages. I've always liked having numbers rounded up to multiples of five as I see it as being a bit 'neater' for some reason. I just don't feel too comfortable with leaving them ending on another digit.

i just crank it down or up depending on what it is that ive done. Gradient map applied image whatever. Ive got used to my own settings but i never follow them to the exact number. Give or take a few percentage doesnt make any differnce.
The 5 and 0 thing seems pretty compulsive. I just move it til i like it. I dont really pay attention to what it says.

Pretty much the same as Lew. I don't pay attention to the numbers, though I guess sometimes I just have a habit of lowering the opacity somewhere from 40-70. The numbers in-between doesn't matter as long as I get the best results.

Ive reads a few tutorials in the past where the persons added gradient map or an adjustment then theyve said something like.
Lower the oppacity of this layer to 97% or something roudabouts. Like that makes any differnce at all xp The 3 percent oppacity differnce is ridiculous.

Always. :hmph: Though it's only ever with a layer's opacity. It always has to end in 0 or 5, and if I'm just scrolling through the numbers and find a spot I like, I'll round it to the closest 0 or 5. Feels neater to me as well. :lew: Brush sizes and borders I'm not fussed with though.

Only when it comes to the canvas size. I find it easier to estimate what size the texture or effect I'm going to apply to the stock if I set it first to a width of 400-500 pixels. It might also just be the obsessive compulsion.

But of course, once I add a 2x2 white border all around, it ends up as 402x152 pixels. :wacky: 80% of my signatures are this size. :wacky:

When it comes to adjusting layer or text opacity though, I'm not fussed. I adjust them until I think it looks pleasing.
