Many of us consider older games to be a part of our child hood.

What games make you feel nostalgic? Which ones bring back fond memories. They can be from any gaming era.

Mario for the Super Nintendo: It reminds me of when I lived on my old street and me and my friends would go into our friend that lived next door's basement and we would play this game for hours. When ever I play this game I think about that friend who owned it.

Donkey Kong Country: I remembery I played this game for the entire week that I had chicken pox! And I can remember playing this game for hours and hours.

Sonic the Hedge Hog. My friends had a Sonic club and we would play this game in my basement for hours XD. And my mom would sometimes yell at us to go outside and play.

Mario 1, 2, 3. Classic games that I remember my brothers playing, and then I would try but would always fall down a bottomless gap :( Now they put me back at a time when I was very young. I remember someone made a dirty comment about Mario 1 and I yelled back "do not mess with my childhood!" XD

Zelda 1. The damn theme song and sound effects makes me want to be a kid again XD.

Super Mario for the N64. My aunt used to baby sit me and i would go to her house and play this game until my mom called to tell me to come home. (My aunt lived in a house right behind mine).

you mostly have my memories and opinion, all the nintendo games! super mario 64 brings back so much memories,i remember going through those paradise levels, the songs and the levels take me back in time.I always remember that bowser laugh when i dont have enough stars to open a door,it gave me nightmares when i was a kid, that game was something special to me.

Aside from the ones you've mentioned (not a fan of fighters eh?):
Mortal Kombat - Overly viceral for the age group my friends and I were a part of. I could never pull of a 'finish him' and used to always spam scorpion's <- <- B

Tekken - Again, no need to determine which installment seeing as it was practically the same game with a larger roster each time. The amount of hours I spent unlocking characters on that game was unreal.

Rayman - I used to play this game for hours with my sister. The game was actually hers but she used to sit and watch me play it (because I was better, bless). Its one of very few games that have survived so nicely in terms of visuals until today.

Golden Eye - Probably don't need to explain what this game was about, I became too good so nobody would play multiplayer with me...

Worms - Such a basic game but sooo addictive.

FF6 - FFX

Resident Evil - Another game I shouldn't have played at 8 or 9 years old.

Doom - See above.

Red Alert - Another I used to play with my sister. Weirdly enough she would join in alot more often than Rayman.

Tomb Raider - The reasons I played this were alot more innocent back then...

I'm sure I'm missing a few out that I'll read in subsequent posts and be like "oh yeah"

Final Fantasy VIII - I spent my 6 weeks hols in Ireland playing it non-stop XD

Legend of Legaia - Also reminds me of Ireland ans playing this alot.

Tomb Raider/Metal Gear Solid - My dads playing and Im trying to help with the walkthrough lol! And he isnt listening to me!!!

Goldeneye - Playing it on N64 with my little bro and asking each other not to shoot rofl XD

Suikoden 2 - Im back in my ex's room 5 years ago playing this whilst hes on CS!

Chrono Trigger - Im in my apartment on my widescreen TV whislt my ex and his mate watch!

Final Fantasy X2 - This one drags me back. Specially the songs. I was in my longest relationship when I got it and my ex helped me with the walkthrough when Id visit him in uni.

Nostaglia can be a bitch sometimes lol.

Final Fantasy X and X-2 - Reminds me of the last Summer before my last year of school. I would sit in my room every day playing them. It also reminds me of my best friend at the time (who I now really don't even speak to anymore) because she introduced me to the games.

She was the last really good best friend I had had before last year when I met someone else.

All the older main final fantasy's. VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2.

Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time, Majora's Mask.

Super Mario 64.

Golden Eye 007.

Gran Turismo.

Perfect Dark.

Pokemon Stadium.

GB Pokemon games like red/blue/gold/silver

NBA Courtside 96

A few more that I can't remember right now.

[Mod Edit: Could you elaborate on the reasons why they make you feel this way. Thanks.]

Super Mario Bros. series (S/NES)- Between this and Sonic this was where most of my gaming time went to during my early ages. (4-6)

Sonic the Hedgehog(Gen) - See above.

Pokemon R/B/Y/G/S/C(GB) - So many hours of grinding, defeating the elite 4, catching/trading pokemon. I remember logging in over 200 hours on my Pokemon Gold file the first time

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior(SNES)- The game that got me into fighting games. I remember for some reason I always had more trouble defeating Vega/Balrog(Claw) than I did defeating M.Bison/Vega(Dictator).

Resident Evil(PS) - Now even though I started with Resident Evil 3, this one holds a special place in my heart because of it's bad voice acting. The game may lack in comparison to it's sequels, not that it is a bad thing, but the voice acting is so bad it's hilarious.

Legend of Legaia(PS) - Now this is the game that got me into RPGs. This game is very underrated and underplayed. Sure even though I've played through enough RPGs to see the flaws with this game now, I still enjoy it alot.

Super Mario 64- I have it on my Wii and I do occasionally play it. What I like about it is that the upbeat music composition and the bright vivid visuals really brings me back to when I was younger playing it with the help of my dad. I think I was about 7 then.

Final Fantasy IX- This is one of the earlier FF games I played about 6 years ago. I distinctly remember playing it while FF was still a mystery to me. FFIX back then felt like something completely new - something I have never played before. Playing the game now just reminds me of how inexperienced I was back then.

F-Zero- I remember first playing F-Zero on a plane journey when I was about 8 years old. I loved racing these little vehicles in sci-fi settings. When I play on it nowadays, I just recall that fun plane journey I had.

Super Street Fighter- Pretty much any Street Fighter game actually. It brings me back to when we had an old SNES in the house. My brother and I would regularly have scraps against each other on it (he wins mostly).

Legend of Zelda: OoT- I remember my dad playing this game a long time ago on the N64. I had a horrible time on it. Now I am a big Zelda fan and I'm still playing this game to this day on the Wii. I'm way more familiar on OoT than I was back then - it's funny to think that.

Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time: I remember when I was playing and I was around 9-10. I didn't understand how to dodge the guards until he showed me how. It was very nice for him to help me, for once :thehell:

Pokemon Red and Blue: They were the first pokemon games that I played and they make me reminisce about the series in general :ryan:

ooh I like this thread xD

for me it would be:

Altered Beast: My first ever mega drive game, I still have fond memories of 2 player games with my brother as we played it on rain filled days.

Sonic the Hedgehog: I adored this game and still love to sneak on it from time to time, always love the catchy music and boss battles.

Golden Axe: Still have memories of beating down Death Bringer for the first time with Gillius thunderhead and Tyra storm, gotta love that dragon summon xD

Resident Evil 1: The mansion, the corny voice acting, THE DOGS! I will never forget the first time I went down that hall and the dogs came crashing through that window, nor the first hunter that decaptiated a startled Chris :O

Contra/Super C - This was a childhood favorite for me and my siblings. I still love playing this game.

Super Mario World (and most other Mario games) - My friend and I used to play this after school just about every day (instead of doing homework).

Final Fantasy IV - This was my first FF and my first RPG game. It's still my second favorite FF game and one of my favorite RPG games to date.

Quest for Glory/King's Quest - Old Sierra adventure games that really remind me of my childhood fighting over the computer with my siblings. xD

Mario mainly because its the first game i played when i was a child, the music from that game is still stuck in my head after all these years. Other games include dig dig, pac-man, galaga, centipede, dragon spirit, and a number of others.

Granted some of those were before my time but i still played them when i got ahold of them. I recently bought a bundle of old games on the PSN and i play it once in awhile to get my nostalgia fix. =p

My jaw dropped amidst a smile at your first 3 since those were the exact ones (and in that order) I was about to list.

Mario, Donkey Kong and Sonic the Hedgehog all remind me of the same times. I remember waking up super early just to play them with my older brother. Him and I were a wicked team. I especially loved being Tales in Sonic, since I could die as many times as I wanted.
I dicked around while being him, too. It was free.

It's amazing how far I've come from playing these games. Back then, I would be super careful. Now, I could probably play these games with my eyes closed.

The Final Fantasy franchise in general makes me feel nostalgic and makes me long for my early teenage years where my biggest concerns were that my parents wouldn't let me get corn rows and whether the girl who sat in front of me at school fancied me or not :wacky: I wouldn't say those were better times by any means, but they were certainly simpler times and playing Final Fantasy makes me miss that part of it atleast.

Paperboy and pacman if we're going riiiiight back oh oh and New Zealand story, played that one on a friends pc alll the time, the first 2 my next door neighbours.....amiga i think it was. Sitting there waiting for the tapes to load 45 minutes just so you could play :8F:

It amazes me hoe impatient I am with loading of todays games considering I used to wait that long xD

Super Mario and Duck Hunt, had them on the Snes, never COULD complete that damn game, I could never do the last level because the route i took NEVER TOOK ME TO THE PRINCESS, OR ID DIE ON THE BOSS GRR

Super Hang On, Road Rash, columns Ecco the dolphin, Sonic the hedgehog and Ghouls and ghosts when I had my Mega Drive/Snes

good times. I fucking love dusting the snes off (thuogh it needs a new power pack now ]: and the megadrive before my ex swiped it -__-

Theres nowt like a good old gaming session to take you back, especially as todays games aren't quite as laid back......

Actually, can you download the snes classics on the Wii...?

Ive seen a megadrive collection for the PS3 which I MUST have and then i can get round my console issues and have retro gaming nights with clare again :andry:

I'll add a few more.

Secret of Mana: Just hearing the theme song takes me back :)

Chrono Trigger: wasn't going to list this because I still play the game. But it was a childhood favorite, and still a favorite of mine.

Any VG music from the 8 and 16 bit era. They always make me want to be a kid again or pull out my old NES and SNES. (though my NES no longer works)

Aladdin for Sega. Yeah I know. But this was actually a good video game based off of a movie. I still play through it every now and then.

Final Fantasy VII definitely for me. The reason is because it's the first game I ever played and that it opened my eyes to the possibilities and greatness of RPGs as a whole.

There was this game by Eidos called Warzone 2100 that really got me into strategy games since it was my first ever even on the old Playstation one.

Super Mario's 1/2/3- I remember watching family members play at a very young age, and just watching them for hours. I didn't like playing most of the time cause it was hard, but just watching was so fun. I actually remember being about 3 and sneaking out of bed and laying in the doorway, hidden from view, watching my parents play Super Mario 1.

For some reason though... the music just playing in the background with no one touching it, gave me nightmares.

Super Mario World- I remember coming home from a neighbours birthday party and my parents bought a snes at a garage sale and it was like, the bestest thing evaaah

Super Mario 64/Mario Kart 64 - My sister's boyfriend brought these over to play with my other sister to try and bond with us. It worked. He was the greatest guy in the world. =DDD

Final Fantasy VII - My sister's boyfriend also brought this over to play a lot, but most of the time I just watched. I remember coming home from school one day after they got me, from a dislocated knee, and watching him play in the Shina Building. Shortly afterthat, he left mee the PS1... and my love for a game was born. :3

FF9 (EVERY. TIME.), Chocobo's Dungeon, and Tomba.
Reminded me of the times when I used to play PS games on my ACTUAL PS, and not on an emulator.

I also feel nostalgia when I play Pokemon Crystal. First ever Pokemon game I've beaten, believe it or not.

A lot of the games mentioned don't make me feel nostalgic. I don't know, maybe they're just too modern still. But a game that does make me feel nostalgic is Pac-Man.
