I posted this on another forum the other day and as this is FF related I'd post it here. Did anybody know of or if they did use the 2 player function in FF9 on PS1.
If you didn't know it had one here is a LINK to a video showing how to activate it (very simple), you basically choose which player controls which of the four party members you have in battle, this happens all the time till you turn it off.
If your both good at playing it then it may be easier on your hands for someone else to take over some characters for you. Me and my friend beat Ozma and the last bits of the game as 2 player quite fun actually.

Have you tried it?

I never tried it but I just googled it and looks like it would be an interesting way to play the game. It might get a little annoying mostly because you are usually used to controlling the characters yourself. Something I might like to try sometime.:awesome:

Me and my brother used to play Final Fantasy IX two-player all the time when we were younger. Before we started, we'd each pick 4 characters we wanted and set the controllers accordingly. I always got Zidane, Freya, Amarant and Eiko and my brother always got Garnet, Vivi, Steiner and Quina. We'd also make sure that unless the current plot said otherwise, that two of either of our characters where in the party at the same time to balance things out. It was great because no characters got neglected and it really mixed gameplay up a bit.

My cousin and I used to do this, back when we still got along. I loved it, it added a new level to the game, and it was interesting to see how well you could play together. I found it more difficult then a normal play through because we both wanted to get the glory, and often wouldn't work as a team.

Wtf?? How could this pass me up? Are you serious? Lol, I guess I never bothered to pay attention or check. That's kind of sad.

I wouldn't even mind the whole, "one player controls the map" thing either, 'cause that's what a friend and I did for Tales of Symphonia, so that'd be nothing new. Wow. I just might have to give this a shot.

Me and my brother did this a while ago. We would pick 2 people to use in the immediate party, and ignore the others. The only thing that sucked was that I had to listen to my brother all the time.

Nice discovery :gasp: I'm shocked I didn't find out earlier xD Then again I never took the time to browse the config menu for FF9. I'm gonna keep this one in mind.

Thanks for sharing, dude :)

I have tried it before once, but it is an interesting that I wished would have been more exploited on in future FF titles.

im sure you can do this in FF6 too. im gonna get my boyfriend to play with me and get him to be a FF head too! it will be awsome! buy yay ! i never knew you could do it in FF9! a great discovery! i think i'll do this with my boyfriend instead because even though i prefer FF6 i think a game with 3-D graphics will hold his attention more! they really should have this in more FF's :)

They put it in the games with four to a battle so it can be divided equally

They got this in all the psx ff games with four characters a battle. ff1,2,4,5,6,9. I played FF9 with a friend of mine who loved the game and thought he could "show" me a thing or two in it. After we played I pulled out my file and said, "see everything but Excalibur II and 6 cards". He was impressed.

I actually just found out about this feature myself... I would love to try it sometime... but no one in my house, nor my friends share my love for Final Fantasy. I really like that they did this though. It brings a whole new level of game play about, I think it makes the game better, as you now have to rely on a partner to help you out of situations. I REALLY need to try to coerce my brother into trying it with me. -_-

I'd always suspected the possibility after running through the menu, but I don't really care to share a game that was meant to be played by 1 person. That, and Final Fantasy is one of the few RPGs that were not supported by retarded AI (which seems to be in an excruciatingly large abundance in today's games...), but instead by the player.

So due to that, I don't really see anything but downsides by adding someone else to the team when you'll get the results that you want on your own without anyone messing with your groove.

I discovered this months back when browsing the menu (kinda funny when the game says it's 1 player xD) but I never really used it, battles got slow and I had to speak in stupid terms so they understood it and battles took twice as long as well >_> Got shite fast so I ended up forgetting it and never used it again :gonk:

... I might be the only one who doesn't know that there is actually a two player feature. Although the disk cover did mention it, if I remembered correctly, I didn't take it seriously, dismissing it since the game was a RPG, and from what I thought, most RPGs didn't have 2 player functions.

Nevertheless, even if I knew, I do not have two controllers to make this happen. Though, I can say that if I do have, and have a friend or relative keen on it, I'll be certain to play it as well. The idea sounds cool, after all- but I have doubts about it working out well.

I didn't bother using this feature, I'm too controlling when it comes to FF, if I was playing with someone and they didn't do it MY way, I'd strop. I don't like unecessary item usage or healing, it all just feels liek a waste of a turn for me, I just like to bash at them and heal when absolutely necessary, I cant even WATCH people play FF without interferring and trying to take over, so there's no way in hell I'd ever be able to co-op in battle with some one, fuck that

I'm in the same boat on this, I'm very controlling how I do things with this game because some times I do it very different than the cookie cutter molds. I like to try abstract strategies sometime the 2nd or 3rd play through, I like the know my odds against certain bosses before throwing everything I got at them just to die. I like making sure my characters are leveled appropriately..

I am OCD in the fact that if someone does try messing with my settings.. and I have to wait on them, then I get easily pissed.. hince why RPGS (not mmos) should be single player only.

Oh, yes, I definitely used this. :awesome:

I was pretty much a novice when I played IX in 2006. I found this option, so I asked my boyfriend (who at the time wasn't my boyfriend) if he wanted to try this. He took over characters such as Steiner, Amarant, Freya, and Quina where I took Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, and Eiko. It was awesome. I loved it. Especially since I was still getting used to the whole system. It's definitely great to play it with someone who's experienced with it. :awesome:

I didn't like the feature, that and when i did use it the other person just kept fucking around and making me lose battles. I stopped using it after that, i hate having to explain every single damn thing about my strategy to a person who doesn't understand simple terms. In the beginning i do try to get them to understand but if they're just stubborn then to hell with it.

God i wish i wasn't so controllative (is that a word?) about games the only one who can tolerate it is my closest friend and he isn't a big fan of this kind...i thinki will probaly try to this and also talk less :)

I remember this feature. I used it with my brother around the time we first got the game, but we were somewhat disappointed when we realized that the second player could only play as other characters while in battle. I mean, it's not so hard to control all four of the characters while in battle, so there's really no need. We ended up playing separate games by ourselves.
