As we know there are many characters in our games that develop close friendships with eachother. Whether its Tifa and Cloud in VII or Tidus and Yuna in X. I dont wanna bring this thread into the favourite love interests dept because thats been done before.
So in which FF game do you feel the characters are closest friends? And who are your favourite pairings?

FFX for me has the closest friendship circle. Their all focused on their love for Yuna and wanting to protect her. Wakka and Lulu grew up along with Yuna, and are especially close because Lulu was married to Wakkas brother. They all have specific ties that link them to eachother. Auron, was Yunas fathers gaurdian, along with Jecht who is Tidus' Dad. I feel these connections make them closer as friends.

As for my favourite im voting for Laguna, Kiros and Ward. I liked their group more than any of the others. They did everything together, they went to war with eachother, and when Laguna went missing Kiros travelled all over looking for him, eventually finding him in winhill. Then in the end they're still together as leaders of Esthar. Definitely a true friendship.

Lets hear your favs.
Please explain in detail.

FFX was probably the top as far as friendships and everyone being close together. *Spoiler*
Especially when they are at the top of the mountain around the fire.. very good scene, gets the person playing the game emotionally involved. You already know what is going to happen to Vaan and Auron, but you wanna beat sin and see the eventual end

FFVII was in close second, but there were problems in my opinions about the back drop characters (Cait Sith, Red XIII, Yuffie) I just didn't get enough from them as a whole.

hmm mines is from 8 as well squall selphie irvine quistis seifer cause they all grew up together and then some go diffrent ways from the rest but hey become friends again like seifer sides with edea and fujin and rajin side withe her just so the can be seifers friend then seifer becomes good in the end so they are kinda together through out most of the game 8 kinda focuses on the fact that evryone knoes each other kinda cool makes you fell sad for rinoa tho

I always liked the relationship of Zidan, Dagger, Stiner with ViVi. They all have times where they seem to really genuinely want to help this little guy.

The friendship between Squall and co was also very good at times. The scene where they are performing the concert to try and get Squall and Rinoa together is very deep. They then go on to tell Squall that they want him to open up more to them, because they care about him, this showed they were close. Their friendship is then tightened when they find out they all went to the orphanage together.
However not nearly as deep as the relations between Laguna and co or the characters in X

The friendship between Yuna and company in FFX was the most developed in my opinion. Everyone in the party banded together and did whatever it took to protect Yuna and help her accomplish her long journey. Lulu and Waaka both had a deep relationship with Yuna, as well as with each other, and they put aside their own personal wants in order to do what was best for the group. Tidus, on the other hand, didn't know any of the other characters at first, yet even he developed a strong relationship with each and every one of them. And close to the end of the game, all of the characters were willing to sacrifice their own lives so that Yuna could perform the final summoning. Now if that's not friendship, I don't know what is xD

The friendship shown by Squall's group in VIII was good as well, but it wasn't nearly as deep and heartfelt as the one in X. Laguna's friendship with Kiros and Ward would be the second best in my opinion.

The relationship pf the FFX crew actually really hit me on my second playthrough. At first, I was more caught up with understanding and grasping key concepts of the story. Only during the second playthrough do I realize how much do these people care for another - in the most literal sense, they're all willing to die for another. Before we even know this, we can see they have a very familial relationship. The revelation just makes this alot deeper.

The FF9 crew, to me, comes in a close second. For me, what was really nice to see was how it demonstrated Zidane as the true leader of the group. He definitly wasn't perfect; he had his fair share of problems. Despite this, the reason why most of your party sticks aroud is somehow related to their relationship with Zidane. Throuhgout the game, he is quite the enigma - he's upbeat and optimistic when things seem hopeless. He has a very uplifting personality and the rest of the more depressive cast learns from him in some way. It is very evident that he garners his team's full respect. Then, one of the best scenes of the game IMO, when Zidane completely loses it, the rest of the party is there to pull him out of it just as he done numerous times before.

In FFVII:AC I think I felt the bond between the game more than I did in the original game. Two particular scenes I like regarding the FFVII group: everyone returing to the Highwind when Cloud and Tifa think they're left alone, and everyone helping Cloud defeat Bahamut SIN in AC. It totally showed how all of AVALANCHE are family, despite being physically apart.

I thought the friendship of the FFVI group was great. The fact you start out as Terra on your journey and then randomly meet a guy who ends up saving your life. As you progress through the story, Terra end up meeting more people along the way and these people end up becoming really close friends with one another. Locke falls in love with Celese while Gau becomes very close with Cyan and Sabin. They were my favorite cast characters because of how well they connected with each other through such hard times and that is what made them stronger as a team to overcome Kefka.

I would probably chose FFIV in second because of how Cecil and Kain's relationship was from the beginning. If Cecil didn't meet such great friends like Rydia, Cid, Rosa and etc. then Cecil would had a hard time overcoming Golbez and bring Kain back to his senses.

FFIX between Zidane and the Tantalus crew.

Zidane has known them his whole life on Gaia almost and they have accepted him and taken them in as their own. The whole story starts off with their plan to 'nap the Princess and somehow they are then shadowed behind after the event of Blank being Petrified in the formerly known Evil Forest.

However, Blank, Baku, Cinna, and Marcus throughout the story will drop anything they are doing at the snap of their fingers in order to help out their friend Zidane in any predicament he finds himself in. They stay true and loyal to him throughout the game and at no time question his actions or personality even when Zidane's at the point where he can't take it anymore.

I believe Zidane's relationship with the Tantalus group is by far the strongest friendship in the FF series.

In reference to BustMo's post, I completely agree.

They may not have been biologically related, but Tantalus was Zidane's family, moreso than his "father" Garland ever was. He also in turn develops very close sibling attachments to other characters, especially in regards to Vivi and Mikoto.

In fact, I have to retract my previous post. FF9 is my favourite overall Final Fantasy that develops the best friendships.

In regards to family, I liked the Cloud-Tifa-Marlene-Denzel relationship going on in On the Way to a Smile/Advent Children. In may have not been sunshine and daisies, but I felt their interactions were a great mirror of what real life families look like, especially when going through such a hard time as they were. The despite it all, Cloud manages to forgive himself and lead a happy life again with his family :)

Cecil/Kain were a great friendship as well. I'm glad that with this story, they didn't go down the obvious path where two friends were torn over a girl. Kain/Cecil were too cool for that :D Plus, the parallels between the two (as characters) were awsome. I'd say they're the most memorable pair of friends in the whole series. Kain's ending scene was something I really like aswell.

So are we talkin relaionships or freindships cause as you fellas know there not the same? Cause freindships is capped of by Tidus And Wakka wjile the Amore goes to Sqaull And Rinoa all the way

Final Fantasy XII had a huge friendship circle which was very bonded together, similar to FFX's. They all have the same objectives, they all had a laugh and they all went through the same things together. Most particular that stood out for me was Balthier and Fran, they were REALLY close together as alot of the scenes in the game suggests. I just wish there was a backstory to how they met up.

I find it hard to choose between Yuna and Kimahri (I absolutely adore them as friends) and Jecht/Braska/Auron.

Also, Paine/Baralai/Nooj/Gippal... There's just something about those four that I really like. There's a pain and a past there that you can find out, but may never really understand. I also like to think that Paine and Baralai have something going on.

Other games, I like the friendship between Locke and Edgar. It's just comediic and makes me giggle.

But then there's Zack/Cloud... That friendship kills me a little bit deep inside.

My two favorite relationships probably have to be Cloud/Sephiroth and Zidane/Kuja. Neither friendship is sustained throughout the entire game but both are extremely cool when both parties are getting along. Cloud was the sickly weakly new kid on the block when he became a Shinra soldier and Sephiroth was always there to hold his hand and help him grow strong. Kuja always lamented and hated Zidane but in the end, they managed to put aside any differences and be friends. IMO, the best friendships are not always the cheeriest but the most complex and interesting.

As for the most developed friendship, I might go with Lulu and Wakka on this one. They grew up together and they know almost everythign there is to know about one another. Lulu was Wakka's sister-in-law for awhile and now they're married with child. You definitely get to see every little detail of their relationship throughout the game and it's pretty cool.

Yuna and Tidus is my very favourite. I adore the laughing scene, the whistling scene, and pretty much any scene where they're together in Luca or alone. Magical.

I'd probably say the friendship circle in X. As people have already said, there was a lot of dedication between them and they were all very loyal to one another. I suppose they were more of a family than group of friends and that's quite possibly the best kind of friendship.

The primary circle in VIII had a good back story, but they just felt like teenage chums; there didn't appear to be as much depth there...

Zidane and the Tantalus Crew.

Their friendship was great to a point where they could understand and accept Zidane's reason for leaving them. Furthermore, Blank's sacrifice at Evil Forest was enough proof of this friendship... To me at least.

I loved Tidus and Yuna it was such a nice relationship. I love it when they kissed in macalania woods underwater it was awesome. I also love Squall and Rinoa there friendship was beautiful.

Final Fantasy 9 had the greatest friendships in my opinion. Considering that Zidane was able to finally befriend Steiner AND Amarant just shows how good he was at making friends.

Zidane didnt even try to befriend Steiner, they argued throughout most of the game but in the end Steiner loses his stubbornish and sees Zidane for who he his. Its actually a very funny friendship as you know that Steiner sorta likes Zidane its just hes too arrogant to admit it. I think Stenier notices Zidanes love and respect for princess Garnet, thats what brought them together.
