For every hero, princess, freind and ally, there is always a badass who is just brings in an aura of coolness to the game. Almost every final fantasy has that sort of badass usually an cool guy like Auron and Steiner or a mysterious character such as Vincent, final fantasy always had their share of such heroes. Who is your favorite badass?

Great question! It's pretty tough for me to pick one... Auron is pretty badass throughout the whole game, whereas Amarant/Salamander (from FFIX) is a failed badass who tried too hard.
Y'know, although he's not really a hero, I think Reno is pretty badass (the one from the game, not Advent Children). He's not too serious, but he's still cool, smooth, and got moves like Jagger.
I'm curious as to what everyone else will say...

I would personally have to choose both Vincent and Auron. I don't yet know enough about Vincent, but I find him very compelling and there is something beautiful about him. He strikes me as incredibly intelligent and calculating, thoughtful and melancholy. Auron, on the other hand, is rugged, sturdy and the absolute definition of a 'badass'!
When you finally get to hear his backstory, you realise that there's a hidden depth to his personality too. He's incredibly devoted. He was brash in his youth, but he has since learnt about the importance of distancing one's self and not acting on impulse.

Seriously though, Balthier is a sky pirate, who gave up having a lot of power, to be free from his crazy father, and yet he plays everything off so cool! He acts like he only wants money or something very rich, but yet in the end you can tell he really wanted to help out the other FFXII hero's and to protect them!

Auron, Auron, Auron, and Auron.
Auron is by far my favorite badass in the series. Just everything about him reeks of awesomeness and badassery. Followed by Auron I would say Balthier. He was probably the only character in FFXII that I actually liked. And he was the true leading man of the game.

She's totally badass! Especially in all of those battles where she "pwns" you and her abilities were pretty awesome as well. :3

hmmm....reading these other posts got me thinking. I really like vincent aswell...so i vote for vincent.
I've said it a million times before, my favourite is Auron. I know it seems easy for me to repeat this, but it really isn't. There are so many wonderful badass characters out there that I refuse to ever neglect, but I think Auron does it for me because of the nostalgia. Don't get me wrong, he's a fucking delicious character in every way I can think of, but so are many of the others.

For comedic purposes, (and by comedic purposes, I mean when Seriyo Tennan beat Tarrant Shank in GXP in anime parlance) my vote would have to go to Steiner in Final Fantasy IX. However, if you want a true bad ass, I would say look no further than Shadow in Final Fantasy VI.

Sephiroth the one winged angel. he is hot, wears sexy bondage clothes, long silver hair, a pretty face and he has a big sword that he can shove into enemies. Not to mention he has a soft spot for his mom :3

+ Balthier - I don't care if people took a look at him before looking at a picture of Harrison Ford thinking there was some connection there, Balthier pretty much subtly mocks Judge Ghis at his face despite his sword baring at them all. His appearance is as stylish as heck and he is complimented by a sharp, witty tongue that makes him a badass with words. He also never gets put in FFXII's equivalent of Carbonite either.
+ Beatrix - She lives up to her title of being the kingdom's strongest, takes you down thrice with minimal effort and at least has a competent brigade of Alexandrian troops compared to Steiner's comic relief Knights of Pluto.
+ Caius - You just can't escape from this guy. You think you've dealt with him to inexplicably save every timeline or whatever, but his plan still comes to fruition. And he more or less finally gives Lightning the arse-kicking she deserves in the DLC.
+ Auron - Being dead doesn't stop him from coming back to carry on fulfilling his promise to an old friend. And a lot of additional plus points for his tolerance towards Tidus. It would have taken every ounce of my fibre and more to not have punched Tidus in the face at first.

Uh, Steiner is more of a goofy type than a cool type especially when his theme song plays. It's like a comic act.
Personally, I find the "Dark" Kain Highwind to be a badass. He is quiet but not the emo type.
